  • Health services likely to be affected in Rajasthan as doctors give shutdown call on Saturday

    By PTI

JAIPUR: Health services across Rajasthan are likely to be affected on Saturday as doctors have given a call for shutdown of routine and emergency services demanding justice for a woman colleague who died by suicide in Dausa district.

The doctors demanded that an abetment to suicide case be filed against six culprits, including three policemen.

Dr Archana Sharma killed herself after a murder case was registered against her following the death of a woman admitted to a private hospital under her.

“We have got complete support from all private hospitals and nursing homes and even associations of government hospitals. There will be complete shutdown of routine and emergency services in private hospitals on Saturday,” said Dr Vijay Kapoor, secretary of an association representing private hospitals and nursing homes.

He said that routine services in government hospitals will remain suspended for the day, but emergency facilities will be functional. Routine services at private hospitals remained affected on Friday as well.

Taking serious note of the doctor’s suicide, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday had removed Dausa Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar, suspended Lalsot SHO Ankesh Kumar and put Lalsot DSP Shankar Lal under awaiting posting orders (APO) status.

Jaipur Divisional Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Yadav was handed over an administrative inquiry into the matter.

In a one-page suicide note, Dr Sharma had written in Hindi, “I love my husband and children very much. Please do not trouble my husband and children after my death. I did not commit any mistake and did not kill anyone. PPH (postpartum hemorrhage) is a severe complication, stop harassing doctors for it this much. My death may prove my innocence.”

“Don’t harass innocent doctors, please,” she added.

  • Rajasthan Cabinet approves amendment to Land Revenue Act, selecting teachers through competitive exams

    By PTI

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Cabinet on Saturday gave its nod to a slew of measures such as amending the Rajasthan Land Revenue Act, making REET qualification valid for life and recruiting teachers through competitive exams.

It also transferred drinking water projects in eight districts from the local bodies to the public health and engineering department.

The cabinet approved the amendment in sub-section 8 of Section 90-A of the Rajasthan Land Revenue Act to give relief to the people who started living on agricultural lands in urban areas after June 17, 1999.

Sub-section 8 of Section 90-A of the act has a provision to convert agricultural land for non-agricultural use in urban areas, prior to June 17, 1999.

However, since then, there has been a rapid urbanisation and various non-agricultural activities have been carried out on agricultural lands.

As there was no provision to regularise these agricultural lands purchased after June 17, 1999, the government said it was necessary to amend the Act and provide relief to the purchasers of such lands.

“For this, the cabinet has approved to change this date to 31 December 2021 instead of 17 June 1999,” the release stated.

The cabinet also decided to constitute a committee to prevent unauthorised use of agricultural land for non-agriculture purposes, and ensure a planned development of cities in the future.

Besides, the cabinet decided to amend the Rajasthan Panchayati Raj Rules, 1996, to determine the procedure for direct recruitment of primary and upper primary teachers.

They will, in future, be selected via competitive examinations conducted by an authorised agency, it said.

Until now, the teachers were being selected on the basis of Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers (REET).

The Ashok Gehlot-led cabinet also said a candidate’s result in the REET exam will be valid for life.

  • BJP won assembly polls by polarising votes: Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot

    By PTI

JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday accused the BJP of winning the assembly elections in four states by polarising votes and making clever statements.

Addressing a gathering at Gandhi Circle here after participating in a peace march on the 92nd anniversary of the Dandi March, Gehlot also said the people need to maintain harmony in today’s atmosphere of tension in the country.

Hitting out at the BJP after the peace march on Jawahar Lal Nehru Road, Gehlot said, “They won elections by giving statements cleverly in the name of Hindutva and polarisation.”

“The situation is serious in the whole country, in states. Everyone knows how was the management of the corona pandemic in UP. Such questions are left behind because they speak cleverly,” he said.

“In the atmosphere of tension in our country today, we need to maintain harmony by following the path of truth, non-violence and peace as shown by Mahatma Gandhi,” he said.

Gehlot hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying the way he delivers “tactful” speeches, people believe his words as they feel that stated by the country’s PM, they must be true.

Reacting to allegations that Congress was defaming central agencies, Gehlot said the whole country is watching what is happening in the judiciary, Income Tax department besides ED and CBI.

“The Prime Minister accuses the opposition of defaming the agencies. The whole country is watching what is happening in the country. What is happening in the judiciary, Income Tax department, ED and CBI? The world is watching how raids are being conducted inside the country, everyone knows on one side that they are defaming the opposition about that too,” he said.

The chief minister asserted that the truth will win ultimately.

“We will have to reach out to the people to tell them the truth, only then BJP people will be exposed and the truth will come out. We will bring the truth by following the path of Mahatma Gandhi,” he said.

“His message of non-violence becomes more relevant in the current situation of unrest in Ukraine today,” he said.

Earlier, Gehlot also offered flowers to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.

Along with the Chief Minister, several ministers, MLAs and other public representatives attended the programme.

Gehlot also said the media is under pressure and supports them (BJP).

  • Fearing poaching, Congress, AAP may shift newly elected MLAs out of Punjab

    Express News Service

CHANDIGARH:  Fearing poaching of MLAs by rivals once the Assembly results are declared on March 10, the Congress and AAP are likely to shift their newly elected legislators out of Punjab. While the grand old party may shift its Punjab MLAs to Rajasthan, the Delhi’s ruling party is expected to shift its MLAs to the national capital.

While all parties are clamming that they will form the next government in the state, there are fears that the verdict will create a hung House. Sources said there are apprehensions that if nobody gets a clear majority, the SAD and its former partner BJP would try to form an alliance government and if they fall short of the required numbers, they would poach the legislators of Congress and AAP.

“There has been a decision to keep the newly elected Congress MLAs of Punjab in Jaipur as there is a Congress government in Rajasthan. As per internal surveys, the party might get around 50 seats in Punjab and fall short of majority,’’ said a party leader on condition of anonymity.

SAD may approach BJP to form alliance govtThe AAP has made a plan so that their newly elected MLAs are not poached by other political parties. It is likely the AAP legislators might be taken to Delhi. Meanwhile, sources in the Shiromani Akali Dal said party president Sukhbir Singh Badal has been in Delhi for the last few days. As per an internal survey the SAD-BSP alliance might get around 35 seats. The SAD leaders are in touch with the BJP to form a post-poll alliance if they have the numbers to form government.
