  • Man held from Rajasthan for blackmailing MLA with fake objectionable video

    MUMBAI: A 33-year-old man was arrested from Rajasthan for allegedly blackmailing an MLA after creating a fake objectionable video of the latter, an official of Cyber police station in Mumbai said on Tuesday.

    Mousamaddin Din Mohammed Khan, a resident of Bharatpur in Rajasthan, between October 19 and 23 established contact with the MLA through Facebook by posing as a woman seeking help and then got the victim to take part in a Whatsapp video call, he said.

    “With the help of technology, Khan morphed the victim’s video and photographs obtained during this video call and then began blackmailing him. He threatened to circulate the video and demanded money to not do so. The victim approached Cyber police station and a case under IT Act and IPC provisions was registered for extortion and other offences,” the official said.

    While Khan has been arrested, two of his associates are wanted in the case, he said, adding that, prima facie, it appears several people have been cheated in this manner by the group.

  • Car with three Rajasthan MLAs narrowly escapes head-on crash

    JAIPUR: Three Rajasthan BJP MLAs had a narrow escape on Sunday when the car they were travelling in averted a head-on collision with another vehicle by swerving sharply off a road in Chittorgarh district, police said.

    While no one was injured in the incident, the car carrying the MLAs was hit in the rear tyre by the other vehicle, they said.

    Chittorgarh MLA Chandrabhan Singh Akya, Raniwara MLA Narayan Singh Dewal and Reodar MLA Jagasiram were going to Pratapgarh when the incident took place, SHO, Nimbahera Sadar police station, Phool Chand said.

    The legislators left for Pratapgarh in another vehicle after the accident, he said.

  • Rajasthan BJP MLA Gautam Lal Meena dies of COVID, CM Ashok Gehlot expresses condolences

    DHARIAWAD: BJP MLA from Dhariawad constituency, Gautam Lal Meena passed away at a hospital where he was undergoing treatment for COVID-19 on Wednesday. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot condoled Meena’s demise.

    “The news of untimely demise of MLA Gautam Lal Meena from Dhariawad (Pratapgarh) due to corona infection is very saddening.     According to the Union Health Ministry, there are 1,59,455 active coronavirus cases in Rajasthan while 7,080 people succumbed to the infection.

  • Rajasthan MLA, 6 others booked for attack on son of BJP leader

    JAIPUR: Behror MLA Baljeet Yadav and six others have been booked in connection with an alleged attack on the son of a BJP leader in Alwar district of Rajasthan, police said on Monday.

    The independent MLA has rejected the allegation, and said he has no connection with the attack.

    Mohit Yadav, the son of former state minister Jaswant Yadav, was allegedly attacked on Sunday near Behror.

    He alleged that the assailants were in an SUV and beat him with sticks.

    “A case under various sections including 307 (attempt to murder) and 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy to commit an offence) of IPC was registered against the MLA and six others on Sunday,” police said.

    The case against Yadav has been referred to the crime branch for investigation.

    Yadav said, “I have nothing to do with the matter and everything will be clear in the police investigation”.
