  • Raigad Lokadalat in Maharashtra settles 34,562 cases; sanctions over Rs 25 crore in compensation

    ALIBAUG: The Lokadalat in Maharashtra’s Raigad district has settled 34,562 cases amicably and sanctioned compensation to the tune of over Rs 25 crore, an official said on Wednesday.

    The Lokadalat proceedings were conducted with the help of video-conferencing at 39 places in the district, the official said.

    At least 72 accident claims were settled and a compensation worth Rs 4.41 crore was made in these cases, he said.

    Apart from this, 52 land acquisition matters were settled and landowners were awarded compensations worth Rs 21.27 lakh, he said.

    The Lokadalat also heard 7,950 cases of taxation of gram panchayat and the municipal council and an amount of Rs 2.76 crore were received by local governing bodies, he said.

    As many as 18,495 cases of traffic violations were settled and the police department received Rs 1.33 crore in these matters, the official added.

    With this, Raigad district has secured top rank in the state in hearing and settling cases in the Lokadalat, it was stated.

  • Maharashtra’s Raigad district gets over 2,900 mm rainfall since June

    ALIBAUG: Maharashtra’s Raigad district has recorded over 2,900 mm rains since June 1, which is 93.06 per cent of its average annual rainfall, an official said on Wednesday. The district recorded 83.43 mm rains in 24 hours ending 8.30 am, with Panvel taluka receiving the highest 181.40 mm showers and Poladpur getting the lowest 19 mm, the official said.

    As against 3,139.38 mm rainfall recorded from June 1 to September 1, 2020, the district has seen 2,993.15 mm in the same period this year, the official said. Alibaug has recorded an average annual rainfall of 101.70 per cent, which is the highest in the district, while Khalapur has received the lowest 75.07 per cent rains, he added.

  • Maharashtra rains: Search operations called off in landslide-hit Taliye village in Raigad district

    MUMBAI: The Raigad district administration on Monday called off the search operations for 31 missing people in Taliye village which was ravaged by a massive landslide after heavy rains last week. So far, 53 people have died in the village and five are injured, while 31 people are still missing and they will be declared dead following the due process, district Collector Nidhi Chaudhari said.

    The village, located in Mahad taluka of Raigad in Maharashtra’s Konkan region, witnessed the deadliest landslide last Thursday after heavy rains, flattening several houses in the area.

    The collector said the decision to call of the search operations was taken after seeking opinion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the disaster response forces of the state and neighbouring Thane district.

    “The rescue operations have ended officially. We have withdrawn our teams from Taliye. The 31 missing will be declared dead following the due process…relatives of the missing people demanded closure of the operations since yesterday,” the collector said.

    Respecting sentiments of the survivors and relatives of the missing people, the operations to search for the 31 missing people have been officially called off, she added.

    Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray visited the village on Saturday and said as landslides proved fatal in many parts of the state, the government would come up with a plan to permanently relocate people living in hilly areas.

    As per the state government, the death toll in the rain-battered Raigad district has reached 71, while 53 people are still missing.
