  • Shivamogga Lok Sabha seat: KS Eshwarappa using Modi photo, BJP complains to EC

The BJP on Wednesday sought the Election Commission’s intervention to restrain senior leader KS Eshwarappa from using the pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Shivamogga where he is contesting as an independent candidate.

Modi’s picture can be used only by BJP candidates or alliance partners. But the independent candidate Eshwarappa has been misleading, saying he is contesting on behalf of Modi and other BJP leaders. He is confusing the voters, and his act will have a bearing on the elections and hence constitutes an office, the BJP said in a letter to the Commission.

The party also sought stringent action against Eshwarappa and a direction to him not to use the image of Modi and other BJP leaders.Eshwarappa, a senior Kuruba (other backward classes) leader and a former state BJP president, has been firm in his decision to take on Yediyurapps’s son, BY Raghavendra, the official BJP candidate in Shivamogga.

The senior leader did not agree for a compromise when the BJP’s national general secretary Radha Mohan Das Agarwal and State General Secretary (Organisation) GV Rajesh visited his house in Shivamogga ahead of the PM’s visit, last month.

Eshwarappa, a former deputy chief minister, has been miffed over denial of ticket to his son KE Kantesh from Haveri, and he holds Eshwarappa responsible for this.

GORAKHPUR: Former BJP MLA from Gorakhpur Radha Mohan Das Agarwal has returned to his earlier profession of a doctor.

Agarwal, who had represented Gorakhpur Urban since 2002, had to vacate his constituency for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the recently concluded Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

A trained pediatrician, Agarwal took to social media to announce that he will return to his profession and will see patients from 9 am to 2 pm daily in the Daudpur area.

He said he was not performing his role as a doctor for quite some time due to his engagements and responsibilities as an MLA.

“I am now an ex-MLA and I am not required to inspect drainage systems and roads daily. I’ll now give time to my practice as a doctor,” Agarwal told PTI.

“I was not able to devote time to patients but now I’ll give my time to them and dedicate the remaining time to social work.”

Agarwal has been winning the Gorakhpur urban seat since 2002.

He joined the BJP in 2007.

In 2022, the BJP fielded Adityanath from the seat which he won.

Agarwal had welcomed the party’s decision and showed full support in the election campaign of Adityanath.
