  • Omicron: Seven days institutional quarantine mandatory for passengers coming to Maha from at-risk countries

    In the wake of the Omnicron variant concern and possible spread, the Maharashtra government issued a circular on Tuesday making seven days of institutional quarantine mandatory for the international passengers who are coming from at-risk countries. 

    Maharashtra chief secretary Debhasish Chakraborty issued the circular on Tuesday making it in effect from November 30, 2021. According to the circular, the passenger coming to the airport will have to declare his or her past 15 days travel history to the government-appointed person at the airport across Maharashtra. If the passengers give false information, then action will be taken against them as per government norms. 

    The international passengers arriving from the at-risk countries declared by the government of India will have to undergo seven days of institutional quarantine. The RT-PCR test of these at-risk countries passengers will be carried out on the 2nd, 4th and 7th day of his or her stay. If any of their tests is found positive, then they will be shifted to a hospital. If the result of the test is negative, then there will be seven days home quarantine. 

    The circular further reads that if the passengers are from any other countries except at risk, then the RTPCR will be carried at airports and if the result of the test is positive, they will be sent to hospitals. If the result is negative, then 14 days of home quarantine is mandatory. If the passengers are arriving in Mumbai through the connecting flights, then the test will be carried out at the airport. If the test is negative then only will he or she be allowed to take the connecting flight. In case of a positive result, the concerned airlines and country will be informed about these particular passengers. 

    In the case of domestic travellers within the state, the person should be fully vaccinated or the latest 48 hours RT-PCR test with a negative report is mandatory. If the passengers are coming from other states, then the RTPCR test with 48 hours with a negative report is mandatory. There will be no exception.

  • IPL 2021: David Warner asks fans for ideas to kill time in quarantine

    CHENNAI: Australia opener David Warner, who joined his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise SunRisers Hyderabad in Chennai on Friday, asked fans to suggest things which he can do to kill time during week-long quarantine.

    The Hyderabad-based side’s skipper will be in quarantine for the next seven days in his hotel room as per BCCI’s SOPs for IPL 2021.

    The Warner-led side had won five out of their last six games to qualify for the playoffs in the 13th edition of the tournament and the team will be looking to carry forward the momentum in this year’s IPL.

    Taking to Instagram he shared a video of himself and wrote, “I’ve arrived and ready to go but one problem I need some ideas to get through the next few days of quarantine!! Please give me some ideas please comment below. #boredinthehouse #india #cricket.”

    “I’m just waking up after a massive massive sleep, arrived yesterday afternoon here in Chennai. Got some 6-7 days to get through quarantine. I need some ideas, please comment below give me some ideas funny stuff, silly stuff whatever it is. Netflix shows, I need something,” he said in a video.

    On Thursday, Warner posted a picture with his wife Candice Warner on social media and said “last wine together” and added it was time to pack the bags and head to India.

    “Our last wine together for a few months, blessed to have spent some quality time at home but it’s time to pack the bags and head to India. Love you lots darling @candywarner1 #cricket #ipl #india #missyou,” Warner wrote in an Instagram post.

    Warner is the third-highest run-scorer and highest among foreign players in the tournament. So far, he has racked up 5,254 runs from 142 matches at an average of 42.71. The southpaw has slammed four tons and 48 fifties in the league.

    SRH will begin their IPL 14 campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 11.

    The Bangladesh Legends team is arriving in the capital Raipur today, meanwhile the state government has exempted players from 3 countries from quarantine. Players from Bangladesh, West Indies and Sri Lanka are exempted from quarantine. Players from here will not have to remain quarantined.
    Today Bangladesh team will reach Raipur, while players from England and South Africa will have to stay in Quarantine for 7 days, they will not get exemption from this, players will not be able to meet people until the Corona investigation report comes.
    The road safety international cricket match series is scheduled to begin in Raipur from March 5, to be held at the Shahid Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium. There will be a total of 15 matches in this series. In which India Legends team is also taking part.

  • Nobody is above law: Maharashtra Minister on celebs flouting COVID-19 norms

    MUMBAI: A day after Mumbai Police lodged an FIR against Bollywood actors Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan for allegedly violating the COVID-19 institutional quarantine norms, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Tuesday said nobody is above law and everyone should follow the protocols.

    Talking to reporters here, Tope said it is the duty of an “ideal citizen” to strictly follow rules and regulations in the current pandemic situation.

    The police on Monday registered a case against Arbaaz Khan, his brother Sohail Khan and the latter’s son Nirvaan Khan for allegedly violating the COVID-19 institutional quarantine norms, officials earlier said.

    As per guidelines, the three were asked to stay at a hotel in suburban Bandra after they returned to Mumbai from the UAE last month, but they went to their homes instead, a civic official said.

    Asked whether the state health department would initiate or recommend any action against celebrities for violating the quarantine protocols, Tope said, “We will take measures against it.

    ” He, however, did not specify any measures.

    Tope further said, “Nobody is above law. Every person should adhere to the protocols laid down by the government. It is the duty of an ideal citizen to strictly follow rules and regulations in the current pandemic situation.

    ” The police have registered the case against the Khan trio under Indian Penal Code Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease), and provisions of the Epidemic Diseases Act.

    As per the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), passengers returning from counties in Europe and the Middle East must stay in institutional quarantine for seven days in view of the detection of the new strain of coronavirus in the UK.

  • Chhattisgarh team reached Vadodara, quarantine will be six days, first match on January 10

    The team of Chhattisgarh State Cricket Association (CSCS) has reached Vadodara after playing five T20 practice matches from Madhya Pradesh. Six-day players have been quarantined following Corona’s guide line. On January 8 and 9, the team will go to practice. After this, Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy will be played from January 10. Earlier, five practice matches were played between Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh in Indore. In which Chhattisgarh faced victory in two matches and lost in three. Significantly, the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy is starting from January 10. BCCI has released the schedule of the match. Chhattisgarh team will be played in Vadodara. The team’s command has been handed over to Harpreet Singh Bhatia. After the practice match, the team left for Indore to Vadodara. Where all players are placed on quarantine.

    Players will examine the corona in three stages. The report will be submitted to BCECE. Players will get a chance to practice only after three stages are reported. Right now the players have been stopped at different hotels.

    Sweden’s 74-year-old monarch on Wednesday said that the country has failed in handling the COVID-19 outbreak as the death toll continues to mount in the Nordic nation. Carl XVI Gustaf, the King of Sweden, who hardly comments on current and political issues and has no formal political power, described the country’s handling of the pandemic as “terrible”. According to CGTN, the King’s comment was part of his annual Christmas address, an excerpt of which was shown by the state-owned SVT channel. 

    King Gustaf said that the country has “failed” in its handling of the COVID-19 outbreak, adding that the sheer number of deaths the outbreak has caused is “terrible”. King Gustaf’s concerns arise from the fact that Sweden has recorded the highest deaths per capita compared to its neighbours in the Nordic region. Earlier, King Gustaf’s son and daughter-in-law also tested positive for the disease and were quarantined along with their children as a precautionary measure. 

  • Rohit Sharma Departs for Australia, In Contention for Selection from Third Test

    India opener Rohit Sharma reportedly left for Australia in the early hours of Tuesday as he looks to be ready in time to play the third Test match in the four-match series Down Under. “He left in the early hours today and is headed to Australia via Dubai,” a source told ANI. The physios at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) gave him a clean chit on Friday and the BCCI sent out an official release on Saturday saying that while he is ‘clinically fit’ to head to Australia, he will continue to work on his endurance during his quarantine period there.

    “Team India batsman Rohit Sharma has completed his rehabilitation process at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and is now clinically fit. He has been rehabilitating and training at NCA since 19th November following a high-grade left hamstring injury suffered during the Indian Premier League (IPL).

    “The NCA medical Team was satisfied with the physical fitness of Sharma after assessing him on different metrics that tested his skills related to batting, fielding, and running between the wickets. Sharma’s physical fitness has been satisfactory, however, he will be required to continue work on his endurance.

    “He has been given a detailed programme to follow for the duration of the two weeks he will be quarantined for. He will be reassessed by the Team India medical team post his quarantine to establish his fitness status and a call on his participation in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be taken accordingly,” the BCCI release said.

  • Israel’s Netanyahu Quarantined For Third Time Without Testing COVID-19 Positive

    Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been quarantined until Friday, December 18 after he met with a confirmed COVID-19 carrier. According to the Israeli Prime Minister’s office, Netanyahu has been tested twice since coming into the contact with the unknown person and has produced negative results on both occasions. 

    According to The Times of Israel, Netanyahu met with Likud Court President Michael Kleiner last Tuesday, who later tested positive for COVID-19. This is the third time Netanyahu has been quarantined without testing positive for COVID-19. It is being said that the Prime Minister’s work won’t be hampered because of him being in quarantine as he is continuing to hold meetings virtually. 

    Netanyahu could now become the first Israeli to be vaccinated by the COVID-19 vaccine that arrived in the country last week. After Israel approved the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, the first batch arrived in the country last week and the government said it would start the vaccination campaign starting December 27. Netanyahu, while receiving the drug at the airport, had said that he would not hesitate in taking the first shot if it helps in persuading the people into taking the vaccine.  

    Israel has reported more than 3,48,000 COVID-19 cases so far, of which 2,932 people have lost their lives. COVID-19 cases in Israel were on an exponential rise between September and October with the country recording its highest single-day tally on September 30 as more than 9,000 people tested positive.
