  • Xiaomi’s Mi 11 launches December 28th as the first phone with the Snapdragon 888

    Aday before Qualcomm unveiled its latest flagship chipset, the company confirmed the names of 14 OEMs who will build devices equipped with the new SoC. Soon after the official announcement, some of these OEMs confirmed plans to launch new smartphones with the Snapdragon 888 onboard. These included Xiaomi, OPPO, and Realme.     While we had assumed that Xiaomi would launch the Mi 11 sometime early next year, the company’s co-founder Mr. Lei Jun has now confirmed that the flagship device will be announced later this month. In a recent post on Chinese social media platform Weibo, Mr. Jun announced that the Xiaomi Mi 11 will be released on December 28th at 7:30 PM. While the post reveals no specific information about the Mi 11, it suggests that the device will pack many surprises.

  • Qualcomm Reveals Snapdragon 888 Benchmark Scores, Posts Significant Performance Gains Over Predecessor

    Qualcomm announced its latest flagship chipset for next year’s flagship smartphones earlier this month during the Snapdragon Summit. The Snapdragon 888 5G chipset is said to power many Android flagships next year. Now, the American chipmaker has revealed several benchmark scores for the Snapdragon 888 chipset from benchmarking platforms like AnTuTu, Geekbench, and more. The numbers released by Qualcomm show that the Snapdragon 888 SoC has posted impressive results in benchmark tests. The company usually allows third-party reviewers to have hands-on access to the latest Snapdragon reference design. However, the coronavirus pandemic forced the company to collate the results across leading industry benchmark testing system.

    Qualcomm has provided benchmark scores for the Snapdragon 888 based on the CPU, GPU, and AI use cases for platforms including AnTuTu, Geekbench, GFX Bench, AITuTu, Procyon, MLPerf, and Ludashi AIMark. The Snapdragon 888 SoC posted significant gains in benchmark scores as compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 865. On AnTuTu, the Snapdragon 888 scored an average of 735,439 score, higher than SNapdragon 865’s 541,899 points score on the same platform last year. On Geekbench, Snapdragon 888 posted a 1,135 points single-core score and a 3,794 points score for multi-core performance. This is above the Snapdragon 865’s 926 single core and 3,438 multi-core score on Geekbench. In other benchmark tests as well, the latest flagship chipset from Qualcomm showed impressive gains in early benchmark scores as compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 865.

    Qualcomm has introduced a new Snapdragon 678 processor for mid-range smartphones. The company has brought this new processor as an upgraded version of the existing 675 processor. In the smartphones equipped with the new Snapdragon 678 processor, the user has claimed excellent performance, better photo / video quality and battery life, the company has claimed.

    What will be found in Snapdragon 678 processor – Snapdragon 678 is very advanced compared to Snapdragon 675, because it supports clock speeds up to 2.2Ghz. For graphics, this processor has Adreno 612 GPU like the previous chipset. The company has designed this new processor specially keeping in mind the mid-range segment smartphones. Users will get a great camera experience in it. Spectra 250L ISP technology is also given in it which makes the camera quality much better. This processor supports up to 48 megapixel rear camera setup, while for selfies it can be used with a dual front sensor of up to 16 megapixels. In this phone equipped with this processor, users will be able to use 4K video, slow-motion, 5x optical zoom and portrait mode better.

  • Qualcomm unveils new Snapdragon 678 platform for mid-range smartphones

    Global chipmaker Qualcomm has announced Snapdragon 678 mobile platform with an aim to bring better photography and connectivity capabilities in the midrange market without sacrificing battery endurance. According to the company, Snapdragon 678, as compared with Snapdragon 675, supports dynamic photography and videography abilities, and immersive entertainment experiences with long battery life over fast, reliable connectivity.

    “We are uniquely positioned to support OEMs in delivering the next generation of devices with in-demand features and performance,” Kedar Kondap, Vice President, Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies, said in a statement.

    The Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 has a CPU architecture consisting of Kryo 460 cores clocked at up to 2.2GHz and for graphics, it gets the Adreno 612 GPU.

  • Qualcomm to launch a new 7-series Snapdragon chipset in Q1 2021

    The new 7-series chipset by Qualcomm is expected to be the main competitor to the 5nm Exynos 1080 with integrated 5G modem and the MT6893 platform by Mediatek – a 6nm upper-midranger that is yet to be announced.

    So far we know virtually nothing about the new Snapdragon 7xx aside from its model number SM7350 and the codename Cedros, named after an island off the coast of Mexico (and relatively close to San Diego, Qualcomm’s HQ).

    A prototype of this platform scored over 530,000 on AnTuTu, meaning it would be performing way better than the SD765G but will still be a step behind the last year’s flagship SD865 that easily reached over 600,000 on the same benchmarking platform.
