  • JeM terror module busted in Pulwama, 8 militant associates arrested

    SRINAGAR: Security forces have busted a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terror module in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, arresting eight militant associates, police said Tuesday.

    Based on specific inputs, several suspects were arrested and leads were developed, resulting in the busting of the terror module operating in the Awantipora area of the south Kashmir district, a police spokesman said.

    He identified the arrested as Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, Ishfaq Ahmad Dar, Manzoor Ahmad Dar (all residents of Wagad); Fayaz Ahmad Rather, a resident of Pastuna; Shabir Ahmad Rather, a resident of Syedabad Pastuna; Mohammsd Latief Rather, a resident of Syedabad Pastuna; Sheeraz Ahmad Mir, a resident of Aripal and Waseem Ahmad Bhat of Pastuna.

    Incriminating materials including ammunition were also recovered from their possession.

    Besides, vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized, the spokesman said.

    Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested terrorist associates were involved in providing shelter, logistics and transportation of arms/ammunition to two active JeM terrorists namely Asif Sheikh, a resident of Monghama, and Ajaz Bhat, a resident of Syedabad Pastuna Tral, he said.

    A case has been registered and further investigation is in progress, the spokesman said.

  • LeT deputy commander among 3 militants killed in encounter in J-K’s Pulwama

    SRINAGAR: Three militants, including a deputy commander of banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday, police said.

    While the deputy commander of the Pakistan-based terror group was identified as Arif Hazar alias Rehan, the identities of the other two slain militants are being ascertained, they said.

    Based on specific inputs about the presence of militants in the Pahoo area of Pulwama in south Kashmir, security forces launched a search operation there, a police official said.

    He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired upon the security personnel, who retaliated.

    In the exchange of fire, three militants have been killed so far, the official said.

    In a tweet, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said, “Arif Hazar @ Rehan, deputy of LeT’s top cmdr (Basit) killed in Pulwama encounter. Involved in killings of Insp Parvez in front of mosque, SI Arshid & 1 mobile shop owner in downtown. Several FIRs against him in Sgr city. Identification of other 2 terrorists yet to (be) done.”

  • Terrorists hurl grenades at CRPF camps in Shopian, Pulwama in JK, three personnel injured

    SRINAGAR: Terrorists hurled grenades at two CRPF camps in Shopian and Pulwama districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, injuring three personnel, police said.

    The attacks came on a day the paramilitary force held its 83rd Raising Day parade in Jammu.

    Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the CRPF Day event, held for the first time outside the national capital. “At about 8:10 pm, terrorists hurled a grenade upon the camp of 178 Battalion of the CRPF at Babapora in Zainapora area of the south Kashmir district of Shopian,” a police official said. He said one personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was injured in the attack.

    In another attack, terrorists threw a grenade at the camp of 180 Battalion of the CRPF at Nowdal in Tral area of Pulwama district in south Kashmir, the official said. He said two CRPF troopers were injured in the explosion.

    SRINAGAR: An encounter is underway between security forces and militants in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said Friday evening.

    Acting on specific inputs about the presence of militants in the Chewaklan area of the south Kashmir district, security forces launched a cordon and search operation, a police official said.

    He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired upon the forces.

    The exchange of firing was going on and further details were awaited, the official added.

    On Thursday, two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were killed in an encounter in Naira Batpora.

  • Four terrorist associates arrested in Pulwama, JeM module busted: Jammu and Kashmir Police

    SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday said it arrested four terrorist associates in Pulwama district and busted a module of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit.

    “Police in Awantipora have busted a terror module of the proscribed terror outfit JeM by arresting four terrorist associates,” a police spokesman said.

    He identified them as Umar Farooq Dar, a resident of Shahbad; Soraj Manzoor Malik, a resident of Midoora; Irshad Ahmad Lone, a resident of Midora; and Afnan Javeed Khan, a resident of Shahbad.

    During preliminary investigation, the spokesman said, it was revealed that the arrested terrorist associates were involved in transportation of arms and ammunition and providing shelter and logistic support to terrorists Umais alias Usman and Abdul Rahman alias Jaat.

    Abdul Rahman is a foreign terrorist.

    Police have registered a case and begun investigation.

  • Kashmiris not involved in recent civilian killings, conspiracy to defame them: Farooq Abdullah

    SRINAGAR: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Sunday, October 17, 2021, said Kashmiris were not involved in the recent civilian killings in the union territory and that these attacks were carried under a conspiracy to defame Kashmiris.

    The Lok Sabha member from Srinagar said these killings were an attempt to disturb the peaceful atmosphere in the valley.

    “These killings are unfortunate and done under a conspiracy. Kashmiris are not involved in these killings. It is an attempt to defame Kashmiris,” Abdullah told reporters here.

    Two non-locals were shot dead by militants in Srinagar and Pulwama districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

    Before that, seven civilians, including four from minority communities, were killed by terrorists in Kashmir, triggering fear among the people in the Valley and criticism of the security apparatus by political parties.

    Asked about the NSA level talks between India and Pakistan, Abdullah said any initiative that leads to friendship is welcome.

    “We should pray and hope that there is friendship between the two countries and we can live (in peace),” he added.

  • Pulwama: Militants involved in Srinagar cop’s killing gunned down in joined operation

    SRINAGAR:  Two militants, who were involved in killing of a civilian and a sub inspector in Srinagar, were killed in twin gunfights in Pulwama and Srinagar on Friday. In Wahibugh area of Pulwama, police, CRPF and army launched a joint cordon and search operation to trace militants in the afternoon. 

    When the militants fired on the search party, a gunfight took place in which militant was killed and an AK rifle along with magazine and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site. The slain militant was identified as Shahid Basir Sheikh from downtown Srinagar. 

    Another gunfight erupted between militants and security forces in Bemina area of Srinagar in the evening. The gunfight ended with the neutralisation of a militant of The Resistance Front. Sources identified the militant as Tanzeel from Habba Kadal area of downtown Srinagar.

    Sheikh was involved in recent killing of Mohammad Shafi Dar, a Power Development Department (PDD) employee, on October 2, IG, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, said adding that Tanzeel was involved in the killing of Sub Inspector Arshid Ahmed near Khanyar in downtown Srinagar on September 12.

    Seven civilians including three minority community members and a street vendor from Bihar were shot dead by militants in Kashmir last week. Six of the civilian killings have taken place in Srinagar alone.

    After the spate of civilian killings, security arrangements across the Srinagar and other parts of the Valley was increased. At least 10 militants, including a top Jaish commander,  have been killed in seven gunfights in Kashmir this week. 

  • Militant involved in civilian killings in Srinagar gunned down in encounter in Pulwama

    SRINAGAR: A militant involved in the recent civilian killings in Srinagar was gunned down in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, police said.

    Security forces received information about the presence of militants in the Wahibug area of Pulwama, following which a cordon and search operation was launched there, they said.

    Police said the search operation turned into an encounter in which one militant was killed. “One #terrorist of #Srinagar City involved in recent civilian killing, neutralised in #Pulwama #encounter,” IGP, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar tweeted.

  • Three Jaish militants killed during gunfight Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama

    SRINAGAR: Three militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad were killed in an encounter with security troops in the forest area of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday.

    A police official said a joint party of police, CRPF and Army launched a search operation in upper reaches of the forest area of Nagbaeran Tral in Pulwama district in the early hours of Saturday after receiving inputs about the presence of militants there.

    He said during the operation, security men came under fire from militants hiding in the area.

    The fire was returned by the troops, triggering an encounter.

    The police spokesman said three Jaish militants were killed in the ongoing encounter.

    “The search operation is going on when reports last poured in,” he said.

    The spokesman said the identity of the militants killed in the gunfight are being ascertained.

    It is the third encounter in militancy-hit Jammu and Kashmir in three days.

    On August 19, a JCO of Army and a militant was killed in an encounter in Thanamandi area of Rajouri while two local militants of Hizbul Mujahideen were killed in a gunfight in Khrew, Pampore area of Pulwama yesterday.
