  • Udaipur murder: Home Ministry directs NIA to probe international links in tailor’s beheading

    By PTI

NEW DELHI: Treating the Udaipur murder as a terror incident, the Centre on Wednesday directed the anti-terror agency, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), to extensively probe the “brutal” murder of a tailor in Rajasthan’s Udaipur district, especially whether any organisation or international links were behind the sensational killing.

The Home Ministry’s official Twitter handle said “MHA has directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to take over the investigation of the brutal murder of Shri Kanhaiya Lal Teli committed at Udaipur, Rajasthan yesterday.

“The involvement of any organisation and international links will be thoroughly investigated.”

The Home ministry had rushed a probe team on Tuesday night after a preliminary probe suggested that the two accused, arrested by the Rajasthan police, were influenced by the ISIS, a banned terror group.

The town of Udaipur witnessed a shocking incident on Tuesday, when Riaz Akhtari, one of the accused, slit Teli’s throat with a cleaver, as Ghouse Mohammad, the other accused, recorded the act on a mobile phone.

In the video clip that circulated on social media, one of the purported assailants declared that they had “beheaded” the man and went on to threaten Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying their knife will get him as well.

The accused brandished blood-stained cleavers as they issued the threats. Both of them were arrested and taken to an undisclosed location for a thorough interrogation.

“Prima-facie, it seems to be a terror case and needs a thorough investigation which includes sifting through their social media profiles,” a senior official had said on Tuesday on condition of anonymity.

Akhtari’s links have been traced to Pakistan-based Dawat-e-Islami, which has its branches in India as well.

Some of the cadres of the Pakistan-based Dawat-e-Islami have been found to be involved in terror incidents, including the assassination of Pakistan’s Punjab province Governor Salman Taseer in 2011.

Beheading has been seen to be a common mode of execution in banned terror groups, especially ISIS and Al-Qaeda.

The gruesome trend saw its beginning in 2014 when several foreigners were killed in a similar fashion by ISIS, which even uploaded the videos of the act on social media.

During the three-decade-long terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, a beheading case was witnessed in 1995, when a terrorist, belonging to Al-Faran, an assumed name of the banned Harkat-ul-Ansar terror group, severed the head of foreign tourist Hansa Ostro. His body was found near Pahalgam on August 13, 1995.

The use of children in last week’s violence may have been coordinated by dubious organisations, NCPCR chairperson Priyank Kanoongo alleged in a tweet in Hindi.

  • BJP sinned, why should people suffer?: Mamata on Prophet row violence

    By PTI

KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday claimed that some political parties were behind the violent incidents that rocked Howrah district and promised to take strict action against those attempting to instigate riots in the state.

She also questioned why should common people suffer because of “sin” committed by the BJP, in reference to controversial remarks by suspended and expelled party leaders on Prophet Mohammad which triggered the violent protests.

“As I have said before, normal life has been affected by violent incidents in Howrah over the last two days. Some political parties are behind this – they want to instigate riots. But this won’t be tolerated and strict action will be taken against those involved. Why should common people suffer because of sin committed by BJP,” Banerjee tweeted in Bengali.

Protests erupted in several parts of Howrah district on Friday over controversial remarks by suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and expelled leader Naveen Jindal on Prophet Mohammad.

Agitators resorted to stone-pelting, setting police vehicles on fire and damaging public property during violent protests and clashes with the law enforcers in the district.

Internet services have been suspended across the district till June 13 and prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC imposed in several areas such as Uluberia, Domjur and Panchla till June 15.

Common people had to suffer as road and railway tracks were blocked by protesters in the district.

Several local and express trains were cancelled due to the violence.

  • Prophet remark fallout: Don’t go to TV debates, Muslim personal law board tells Islamic scholars

    By Online Desk

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on Friday appealed to Muslim scholars and Ulemas (Maulvis) not to participate in TV channel debates.

“By participating in programs, they are not able to do any service to Islam and Muslims, but indirectly insult and ridicule Islam and Muslims,” the Muslim body said in an advisory.

AIMPLB said that the Muslim Scholars and Ulemas should boycott those channels whose only objective is to ridicule Islam and Muslims. “If we boycott their programmes, not only their TRPs will fall but they will also miserably fail in their objectives,” AIMPLB said.

The Muslim body added that participation in the TV debates does not serve Islam and Muslims. Rather, it indirectly insults and ridicules the sect.

“The purpose of these programme is never to reach a conclusion through constructive debate. They invite a Muslim scholar only to prove their ‘fairness’ and our scholars and ulemas fall prey to their conspiracies,” the board said.
