  • Kim Kardashian buys ‘Attallah Cross’ pendant worn by Princess Diana

    By AFP

LONDON: American reality television star and social media colossus Kim Kardashian has purchased the Attallah Cross, the amethyst and diamond pendant famously worn on several occasions by Princess Diana, according to the auction house Sotheby’s.

The piece, made in the 1920s by the British jeweller Garrard, sold for 163,800 pounds ($202,300) during the auction house’s “Royal and Noble” sale in London on Wednesday.

The pendant — which Diana notably wore to a 1987 charity gala — fetched more than twice the pre-auction minimum estimate, with Sotheby’s confirming it was bought by a representative on behalf of Kardashian.

“Jewellery owned or worn by the late Princess Diana very rarely comes on to the market, especially a piece such as the Attallah Cross, which is so colourful, bold and distinctive,” Sotheby’s Kristian Spofforth said before the sale.

“To some extent, this unusual pendant is symbolic of the princess’s growing self-assurance in her sartorial and jewellery choices, at that particular moment in her life.”

The pendant will not be the first piece of fashion history to cross paths with Kardashian.

Last year, the 42-year-old made headlines for attending the Met Gala in the very dress worn by Marilyn Monroe when she serenaded then-president John F Kennedy on his birthday in 1962.

Kardashian was initially accused of having damaged the screen legend’s gown, but Los Angeles-based museum Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, which owns the piece, denied the allegations.

  • Famed French fashion photographer Demarchelier who took iconic images of Princess Diana dies

    By AFP

PASRIS: French photographer Patrick Demarchelier, who took iconic images of Princess Diana, Madonna and other celebrities but was later accused of sexual misconduct, has died, his family announced on Friday. He was 78.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patrick Demarchelier on March 31, 2022 at the age of 78,” said a post on his official Instagram account accompanied by three photos.

The announcement did not provide a cause of death or other details.

Demarchelier was one of Princess Diana’s favourite photographers and took some of the most iconic pictures of the late royal, including one beaming into the camera while hugging her knees and wearing a white strapless dress and a tiara, as well as another of her in a black turtleneck.

Among his other famous shots was one of Madonna in a skewed black cap with a cigarette hanging from her mouth.

He photographed countless supermodels including Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista, as well as celebrities including Angelina Jolie, Robert DeNiro, Anthony Hopkins and Oprah.

He was so well known in photography circles that his name appeared several times in the movie “The Devil Wears Prada” starring Meryl Streep, a satire of the workings of the fashion world.

But in 2018, he became one of the most high-profile figures in the fashion world to be embroiled by the #MeToo movement, when The Boston Globe published an expose in which seven women, including a former assistant, accused him of sexual misconduct.

Demarchelier, who was born in the northern town of Havre, is survived by his wife, three sons and three grandchildren.

  • Prince William reveals special song his late mom Princess Diana used to sing in car

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Duke of Cambridge–Prince William recently got candid while cherishing his childhood memories when his mom Princess Diana would take him to school.

People magazine obtained snippets of an upcoming episode of Apple Fitness+’s Time to Walk series on December 6, where William takes listeners on a walk through his grandmother Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham Estate as he shares personal, life-shaping moments in an effort to promote mental and physical wellbeing through walking.

He also chooses three of his favourite songs and explains why they are important to him. One of them has a special connection with the childhood memory of his late mother, Princess Diana, as according to him, she used to play that song for him and younger brother Prince Harry to ease their back-to-school anxieties.

“When I was younger, Harry and I, we were at boarding school. And my mother used to play all sorts of songs to kind of while away the anxiety of going back to school. And one of the songs I massively remember and has stuck with me all this time, and I still, to this day, still quite enjoy secretly, is Tina Turner’s ‘The Best’ because sitting in the backseat, singing away, it felt like a real family moment,” William shared.

He added, “And my mother, she’d be driving along, singing at the top of her voice. And we’d even get the policeman in the car, he’d be occasionally singing along, as well.”

“You’d be singing and listening to the music right the way out into the gates of school, when they dropped you off and, and that’s when reality kind of sunk in that you really were going back to school because before that, you’re lost in songs. You’ll want to play it again just to keep that family moment going,” he continued.

William also shared that when he listens to the song now; it takes him back to those car rides and brings back lots of memories of his late mother.

The Duke said that he now creates the same kind of special music moments with his own children — 8-year-old Prince George, 6-year-old Princess Charlotte, and 3-year-old Prince Louis.

“Most mornings there’s a massive fight between Charlotte and George as to what song is played in the morning. And I have to, now, basically prioritize that one day someone does this one, and another day it’s someone else’s turn. So George gets his go, then Charlotte gets her go. Such is the, the clamour for the music,” he shared.

He also revealed that currently his kids are obsessed to Shakira’s ‘Waka Waka’.

For his third song choice, William selected AC/DC’s ‘Thunderstruck’, as per People magazine.

He said, there is nothing better than, on a Monday morning, when a person is a bit bleary-eyed after the weekend and trying to get himself back into the grind of the week, listening to AC/DC, ‘Thunderstruck’.

“I have to say the first time I put it on, and I’ve heard it a million times now, I was kind of like, ‘Well, this is quite heavy for a Monday morning.’ But now, when I listen to it, it’s the best tonic for a Monday morning. It absolutely wakes you up, puts your week in the best mood possible, and you feel like you can take on anything and anyone,” he shared.

“I’d imagine you’re going to walk quite fast listening to it, maybe with a skip in your step, with the head-banging. It’s a difficult song not to dance to or to nod along to,” the royal continued.

Apple will stream three special audio airings of ‘William’s Time to Walk’ episode for free on Apple Music 1, the flagship global radio station on Apple Music, on December 6. (ANI)

  • Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey features a subtle nod to Princess Diana

    By ANI
WASHINGTON: The Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle who is pregnant with her and Prince Harry’s baby, paid tribute to her husband’s late mother Princess Diana during the couple’s highly anticipated interview with Oprah Winfrey.

According to E!News, in a preview for the tell-all, which is set to air on March 7, Archie Harrison’s mom could be seen wearing Princess Diana’s bracelet.

It is the same bracelet that Harry took two stones to have Meghan’s engagement ring made. The outlet has learned that the couple wanted the bracelet to be worn in order to have his mother there with them during the interview.

In a sneak peek from the bombshell sit-down, Harry even referenced Diana’s death, saying his “biggest concern” with the scrutiny they have received from the British press has been “history repeating itself.”

Per E!News, Harry told Oprah in another preview clip, “You know for me, I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here talking to you with my wife by my side. Because I can’t begin to imagine what it must’ve been like for her going through this process by herself all those years ago.”

As reported by E!News, Meghan and Harry announced their decision to step back from royal life in January 2020. Since that time, the pair has relocated to Southern California with their son Archie.

As the family prepares to add a new member, Meghan, who suffered a miscarriage in July 2020, and Harry have made the decision not to return as working members of the royal family.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have confirmed to Her Majesty The Queen that they will not be returning as working members of The Royal Family. Following conversations with The Duke, The Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of The Royal Family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service,” Buckingham Palace announced in a statement on February 19.

“The honorary military appointments and Royal patronages held by The Duke and Duchess will, therefore, be returned to Her Majesty, before being redistributed among working members of The Royal Family,” the statement continued.

“While all are saddened by their decision, The Duke and Duchess remain much loved members of the family.”

‘Oprah With Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special’ will air on Sunday, March 7 at 8:00 p.m. EST/PST.
