    Congress leader Pramod Tiwari lauded Rahul Gandhi’s decision to retain the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh and called it the “right political decision.”

    Tiwari also thanked the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi for respecting the mandate of Uttar Pradesh.

    “I want to thank the national leadership of Congress and Rahul Gandhi. He (Rahul Gandhi) has taken the right political decision. Apart from this, he has also respected the mandate of Uttar Pradesh which gave 43 out of 80 seats to the INDIA alliance,” the senior Congress leader told ANI.”Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will win from Wayanad by 5 lakh votes,” he added.

    Meanwhile, Congress workers burst crackers and celebrated in Rae Bareli as Rahul Gandhi decided to retain the Lok Sabha seat.

    Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge announced Priyanka Gandhi’s candidature from Wayanad at a special press conference on Monday. If Priyanka Gandhi wins from Wayanad, three members of the Nehru-Gandhi family will be in Parliament – Sonia Gandhi in Rajya Sabha and Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi in the Lok Sabha.Priyanka Gandhi said on Monday that she will contest the bypoll from Wayanad but her decades-old association with Amethi and Rae Bareli will continue.”I am very happy to be able to represent Wayanad and I will not let them feel his (Rahul Gandhi’s) absence. I will work hard and I will try my best to make everyone happy and be a good representative. I have a very old relationship with Rae Bareli and Amethi and it cannot be broken. I will also help my brother in Rae Bareli. We will both be present in Rae Bareli and Wayanad,” Priyanka Gandhi said at the special press conference.

    The bye-election in the seat was necessitated after Rahul Gandhi decided to retain Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli seat, which he won along with Wayanad in the recently held Lok Sabha elections.

  • UP Police official suspended in Pratapgarh BJP MP assault case

    LUCKNOW: A police official has been suspended following Saturday’s incident in which BJP MP Sangam Lal Gupta had accused former Congress MP Pramod Tiwari of leading a mob of his party’s workers to beat him up and his party’s activists during a social function Pratapgarh district.

    Lalganj Circle Officer Jagmohan Singh has been suspended for laxity in duty, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said on Sunday.

    In a statement issued here, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi said that additional director general of police (administration) in his report had mentioned that Circle Officer Singh did not arrange adequate police force at the venue of the important programme — Gareeb Kalyan Mela — in Sangipur block in Pratapgarh.

    Due to this a serious law and order situation emerged, the statement said.

    Citing the report, he added that it is clear from it that the circle officer showed laxity and inaction in discharge of duty, which is not expected from a gazetted police officer.

    This has tarnished the image of the government and the department.

    Hence, he has been suspended with immediate effect and departmental action has been initiated against him, Awasthi said.

    The issue prompted police to register a case against 27 persons, including the senior Congress leader and his daughter.

    The alleged incident led Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya to order the district administration to take strict action in the incident, in which Gupta alleged his ‘kurta’ was also torn by the assailants.

    “Instructions have been issued for speedy and strict action in the incident of attack on BJP MP and national general secretary of BJP’s Pichhda Varg Morch Sangam Lal Gupta during the Gareeb Kalyan Mela in Sangipur block in Pratapgarh district,” Maurya had said in a tweet on Saturday.

    Acting Superintendent of Police Prakash Dwivedi said that acting on the complaint lodged by the BJP MP, a case has been registered against 27 persons including Pramod Tiwari, his daughter Aradhana Misra and 50 unknown persons under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act.

    PRATAPGARH: BJP’s Pratapgarh MP Sangam Lal Gupta on Saturday accused former Congress MP Pramod Tiwari of leading a mob of his party workers to beat him up and his party’s activist during a social function in Sangipur block of the district.

    The issue prompted the police to register a case against 27 persons, including the senior Congress leader and his daughter.

    The alleged incident led Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya to order the district administration to take strict action in the incident, in which Gupta alleged his ‘kurta’ was also torn by the assailants.

    “Instructions have been issued for speedy and strict action in the incident of attack on BJP MP and national general secretary of BJP’s Pichhda Varg Morch Sangam Lal Gupta during the Gareeb Kalyan Mela in Sangipur block in Pratapgarh district,” said Maurya in a tweet.

    “Not even a single guilty person will be spared,” he added.

    Acting Superintendent of Police Prakash Dwivedi said that acting on the complaint lodged by the BJP MP, a case has been registered against 27 persons including Pramod Tiwari, his daughter Aradhana Misra and 50 unknown persons under various sections of the IPC and CLA.

    Citing the complaint lodged by Gupta, the acting Superintendent of Police said that as the BJP MP reached the venue of the Gareeb Kalyan Mela, Pramod Tiwari, his daughter and Congress MLA Aradhana Misra (who were already present at the venue) along with their supporters started raising slogans against him, and even assumed an attacking posture.

    As Sangipur SHO Tushardutt Tyagi rushed to save Gupta, Pramod Tiwari and his workers attacked him, Gupta said, adding that Congress MLA Misra along with her supporters hurled abuses at him, and pounced on him with the intention to kill him.

    The BJP MP added that the security personnel somehow managed to bring him out (from the attackers grip), but at the behest of Misra, her supporters started beating him using stones and sticks, due to which he and his supporters got injured.

    Around a dozen vehicles have been damaged, he claimed.

    Gupta told PTI that the incident happened when he and his party workers reached the ”mela” venue in Sangipur, where ex-Congress MP Tiwari was sitting on the dais.

    “Seeing me at the venue, Tiwari and his supporters first began hooting at me and our workers. Later, they grew violent and attacked us,” he said.

    “They beat me up too and tore my kurta,” he said.

    The former Congress MP could not be contacted for comments despite repeated attempts by PTI.
