India is rewriting the script on affordable housing through Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), positioning itself as a leader for Global South countries battling urban poverty and rural deprivation. This multifaceted program—spanning PMAY-Gramin, PMAY-Urban, PMAY-Urban 2.0, and Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme—champions inclusion and women’s empowerment.

What sets PMAY apart is its human rights lens: homes aren’t just shelters but tools for equality and self-respect. By mandating women’s names on property titles, India dismantles patriarchal barriers, granting females legal ownership that fortifies family dynamics and economic independence.

Rural success stories abound. Under PMAY-Gramin, solid homes symbolize social mobility, with 70-75% titled to women. Guidelines allow sole or joint female ownership, fostering intra-family authority and asset security for loans or business ventures.

Synergies with Swachh Bharat, Jal Jeevan Mission, electrification, Ujjwala, and solar initiatives elevate these homes into sustainable habitats, prioritizing women’s well-being through better sanitation and privacy.

In cities, PMAY-Urban tackles slum proliferation, delivering subsidized homes to EWS and LIG segments where women must be primary owners. This addresses the disproportionate burden of unpaid labor and housing insecurity on urban women.

CLSS bridges financing gaps, subsidizing loans for home purchase, construction, or enhancement—exclusively when women co-own. It propels women into formal credit systems, challenging biases and building generational wealth.

As Global South peers observe, PMAY exemplifies how targeted policies can uplift the marginalized, blending scale, sensitivity, and sustainability for transformative impact.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has scripted history by delivering homes to 62 lakh people – the highest number ever since 1947. This unprecedented feat under his administration’s housing…

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has scripted history by delivering homes to 62 lakh people – the highest number ever since 1947. This unprecedented feat under his administration’s housing drive has been hailed as a game-changer in addressing India’s housing crisis.

Speaking at a grand inauguration ceremony, Yogi emphasized the double-engine government’s synergy between state and center. The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has been the backbone, with UP leading in both rural and urban housing completions. ‘From mud huts to pucca homes, we’ve turned aspirations into reality for 6.2 million families,’ he declared.

Breakdown of the achievement shows 40 lakh rural houses under PMAY-Gramin and 22 lakh urban units, all equipped with basic amenities like toilets, electricity, and water connections. The program’s success stems from rigorous beneficiary verification via Aadhaar linkage and real-time progress tracking through a dedicated portal.

The CM credited the hard work of district administrations, engineers, and contractors who worked against odds including monsoons and supply chain issues. Special focus was given to women-headed households and landless laborers, ensuring equitable distribution.

Economically, the project generated thousands of jobs, stimulated cement and steel industries, and empowered local artisans. Socially, it has curbed migration to cities by improving village infrastructure.

Nationally, this positions UP as a model state, with Union Ministers applauding the pace. Future phases aim for another 20 lakh homes, integrating smart village concepts.

Critics who once doubted the timelines now acknowledge the transformative impact. For the beneficiaries, it’s a new dawn – stories of families moving from thatched roofs to concrete homes flood social media, symbolizing hope and progress under Yogi’s leadership.

Chhattisgarh is experiencing a significant surge in development and confidence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared during his recent visit to Nava Raipur. Marking the state’s 25th anniversary, PM Modi inaugurated a suite of transformative projects and laid the foundation for new initiatives worth over Rs 14,260 crore. These developments span critical sectors including roads, industry, healthcare, and energy, heralding a new era of progress for the state.

During a public address, the Prime Minister lauded Chhattisgarh’s remarkable journey over the past quarter-century. He highlighted the widespread availability of electricity and internet connectivity in every village, a testament to the government’s commitment to bridging the digital and energy divide. The success of the Ujjwala scheme was also emphasized, with gas connections now reaching even the most vulnerable households, and plans underway to extend piped gas networks to villages.

The expansion of rural infrastructure was a key focus, with PM Modi noting the dramatic transformation of the road network. From limited access in remote areas at the time of the state’s formation, Chhattisgarh now boasts a 40,000 km rural road network, significantly improving connectivity and accessibility.

Further underscoring the government’s focus on welfare, PM Modi presided over a ‘Griha Pravesh’ ceremony, inaugurating 3.51 lakh new homes built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. An additional Rs 1,200 crore was released for 3 lakh beneficiaries, ensuring dignified housing for rural families.

Beyond infrastructure, the visit celebrated Chhattisgarh’s rich heritage. The Prime Minister unveiled a statue of Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh and inaugurated a memorial and museum dedicated to tribal freedom fighters, honoring their bravery. The newly constructed Chhattisgarh Vidhansabha, a sustainable building powered by solar energy and featuring rainwater harvesting, was also inaugurated, symbolizing a modern and eco-conscious future.

A meeting was held on September 6th in the meeting hall of the Zilla Panchayat Surajpur to review the progress and completion of departmental schemes. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin, a flagship government initiative, the Gram Panchayat Semrakhurd of Janpad Panchayat Pratapur was allocated a target of 131 houses for the financial year 2024-26. The Panchayat Secretary had not submitted the Aadhaar consent for the approval of houses for 22 beneficiaries under Awas Plus. Moreover, the progress of the 73 approved houses was also not satisfactory. It was evident that Sukhdev Prasad, the Panchayat Secretary, did not conduct timely inspections of the approved houses and other construction works in the Gram Panchayats, nor did he show any interest in completing the housing construction. Consequently, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin was not making the expected progress. The Panchayat Secretary exhibited gross negligence, indifference, and indiscipline in his duties. His actions constitute misconduct under Rule 3 (1)(2)(3) of the Chhattisgarh Panchayat Service (Conduct) Rules, 1998, and Rules 3, 4, 5, and 6 of the Chhattisgarh Panchayat (Powers and Actions of Secretary) Rules, 1999.

Therefore, Sukhdev Prasad, the Panchayat Secretary of Gram Panchayat Semrakhurd, Janpad Panchayat Pratapur, is suspended with immediate effect under Rule 4 of the Chhattisgarh Panchayat Service (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1999, for the above-mentioned actions. During the suspension period, the headquarters will be the office of Janpad Panchayat Pratapur. He will be entitled to subsistence allowance as per rules during the suspension period.

In a meeting held on September 6th in the meeting hall of the Surajpur District Panchayat, a detailed review was conducted regarding the progress and completion of departmental schemes. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin, a flagship government program, the Gram Panchayat Semrakhurd of Janpad Panchayat Pratapur was assigned a target of 131 houses for the financial year 2024-26. However, the Panchayat Secretary has not yet submitted the required consent for the approval of houses for 22 beneficiaries under Awas Plus, and the progress on the 73 approved houses is also unsatisfactory. This indicates that Sukhdev Prasad, the Panchayat Secretary, has not been conducting timely inspections of the approved houses and other construction works in the Gram Panchayats, nor is he showing any interest in completing the housing construction work. As a result, the expected progress in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin is not being achieved. The actions of the Panchayat Secretary constitute gross negligence, indifference, and indiscipline towards his official duties/responsibilities. The actions of the Panchayat Secretary are in violation of Rule 3 (1)(2)(3) of the Chhattisgarh Panchayat Service (Conduct) Rules, 1998 and Rules 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the Chhattisgarh Panchayat (Powers and Actions of Secretary) Rules, 1999, and fall under the category of misconduct.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for multiple development projects in Bihar’s Motihari, alongside flagging off four new Amrit Bharat trains. The projects are valued at over ₹7,200 crore. The Amrit Bharat trains will operate from Rajendra Nagar Terminal (Patna) to New Delhi, Bapudham Motihari to Delhi (Anand Vihar Terminal), Darbhanga to Lucknow (Gomti Nagar), and Malda Town to Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) via Bhagalpur.
