  • “Humble” David Warner Says He Won’t Respond To India Taunts

Australian opener David Warner vowed Monday to keep his temper in check during the upcoming series against India, predicting Virat Kohli’s men will try to wind him up with verbal taunts. Warner once revelled in his reputation as Australia’s attack dog during on-field confrontations but said he had toned down his antics as he matured. The 34-year-old expected some barbs to be thrown his way during the upcoming India tour, which begins with a one-day international in Sydney on Friday, but said he would let his bat do the talking.

“The last time we toured in India they really engaged us like that,” he told a conference call.”We’re learning over time, especially myself, that if you look not to engage in that you’re almost reversing the effect by ignoring it, trying to take it in, and using your bat.”

Warner said he planned to use any taunts as motivation, while refusing to retaliate in kind and maintaining a positive attitude.”You don’t know the effect (losing your temper) will have on your teammates, so you have to be a bit more humble and be more respectful to the opposition,” he said.

Warner’s milder approach appears to coincide with his return from a ban over the 2018 ball-tampering scandal, although the batsman attributed the laid-back demeanour to fatherhood.

“You have to be patient, not get too aggressive, not get angry when the kids aren’t listening,” he said.”So I’m getting tested on and off the field.”

Warner also backed his out-of-form Test partner Joe Burns, who faces a stiff challenge from rising star Will Pucovski for a spot at the top of the batting order against India.”I’ve spent a lot of time with Joe Burns in the middle, I know exactly what we’re about when we’re out there,” he said.”Obviously, we won a lot of games last year. So for me, you don’t break something that’s actually working.”

  • Delhi Capitals’ IPL season was satisfying, humbling, enriching: Mohammad Kaif

“Can you come for the batting nets, bhai?” It was Shikhar Dhawan on the phone in July in New Delhi. It had become our Covid routine of sorts; by the time I would reach, he would be ready, waiting. It would come to my mind later when he started to find touch midway during IPL; everyone does prepare well and sometimes when it clicks as well as it had done for him, it does feel good.

Those stints were our gentle re-entry to the game in these unusual times. I was eagerly looking forward to the tournament, to exchange notes with Ricky Ponting, Delhi Capitals’ coach, to discuss strategies and to the pre-game buzz. Truth be told, I was also not troubled by the quarantine restrictions – neither before nor now after enduring it – but just glad that BCCI had managed to pull off one of the greatest competitions of our times. It of course helped that my team, Delhi Capitals, reached the final for the first time ever in 13 years.

In the first half, we were the team to beat and though we slipped later, we clawed our way back though we eventually lost to a very professional unit in Mumbai Indians.

  • UK’s Home Secretary Priti Patel Defended By Senior Conservatives Amid ‘bullying’ Claims

As per media reports, the Britsih interior minister is likely to not get sacked by Johnson and the findings of the assessment will be published soon.  According to several Britsih media outlets, Patel was found to have not only failed to meet the requirement of treating the civil standards with respect and considerations but there are instances of bullying. While senior Conservatives are backing Patel, its main opposition, the Labour accused Johnson of attempting to “cover-up” after it emerged that the fact-finding report on Patel will be kept away from the public.

Meanwhile, as per the Associated Press Sir Alex Allen has concluded that home secretary has “not always met the high standards of the code in treating civil servants with respect” and that “instances would meet the definition of bullying”. The UK PM’s ministerial standards adviser was also quoted by the newspaper saying that “to that extent behaviour has been in breach of the ministerial code even if unintentional.” Even though British ministers have to resign after breaching code of conduct, Johnson will reportedly ask Patel to apologise and stress on ‘unintentional’ part.
