The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) posted on ‘X’: “I am deeply saddened by the news of a mishap at a firecracker factory in Virudhunagar district. He said that a preliminary enquiry revealed that there was overcrowding in the chemical mixing room and the blast could have been caused by mishandling of the chemical. He said that the factory owner had a valid licence.

  • Amit Shah Instagram: Home Minister Amit Shah’s Instagram account crosses 1 crore followers

Union Minister of Home and Cooperation Amit Shah’s Instagram account has crossed the 1 crore mark in the number of followers.

Social media pundits suggest that the latest buzz around his dexterity in steering seven historic bills across both houses amidst an explosive furore created by the opposition has much to do with his soaring popularity on social media platforms.

As per the latest numbers, the Union Home Minister has as many as 34.1 million followers on X, 10.7 million on Instagram and 15 million on Facebook. However, Amit Shah has been the most followed political personality in India second only to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for a while now.The Home Minister’s 10.7 million followers on the short video platform Instagram is only second to PM Narendra Modi who is followed by a mind-boggling 82.7 million Insta people.

On Facebook, Amit Shah scored 15 million followers right after PM Narendra Modi who leads him with 48 million followers.

There is also a wide gap between Home Minister Amit Shah’s social media following and those of opposition stalwarts like Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Congress President Rahul Gandhi.Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge who was recently named as the probable Prime Ministerial candidate of the INDI alliance trails far behind Amit Shah on social media dominance with a following of 566.7 K on X and 130K on Facebook as opposed to Shah’s 34.1 and 15 million respectively.Arvind Kejriwal, one of the most vocal opposition leaders and the Delhi Chief Minister finishes the race at 27.3 million on X, 1.7 million on Instagram and 9.2 million on Facebook.

While Rahul Gandhi clocks 24.7 million followers on X, 5.1 million on Instagram and 6.8 million on Facebook.

Although Shah’s popularity has constantly been on the rise since he was credited with having master-minded PM Narendra Modi’s landslide victory in the 2014 Lok Sabha Polls, it saw a massive upheaval after the BJP won an even bigger victory in 2019 under his presidency.

Placing a slew of landmark bills, overpowering the opposition with razor-sharp arguments often leaving the house in splits with witty comebacks, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has fomented an image of Parliamentarian par excellence in the last five years. (ANI)

  • PM Modi more concerned about Israel than Manipur: Rahul Gandhi

    By PTI

AIZAWAL: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday charged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was more concerned about happenings in Israel than in Manipur, which has been riven by an ethnic conflict since May this year.

Addressing a rally near Raj Bhavan here after undertaking a 2-km-long padayatra through the city roads, he said that neighbouring Manipur is no longer a unified single state, but has been divided into two states on ethnic lines.

Gandhi, who began a two-day visit to poll-bound Mizoram, asserted that the Congress had ushered in peace in the insurgency-hit northeastern state with the signing of a peace accord in 1986.

“It is amazing to me that the PM and the Government of India are so interested in what is happening in Israel (Israel-Hamas conflict) but not interested at all in what is happening in Manipur, where people have been murdered, women molested and babies killed,” he said.

“The idea of India that respects each other is tolerant, learns from other ideas, religions and languages and that loves itself as a whole. That is the idea of India which is under attack by the BJP.

“They (BJP) attack different communities, religions and languages. They spread hatred and violence in the country. They spread arrogance, lack of understanding and this is completely against the idea of India,” he added.

  • Blacklisted after London protest, JKNPP founder’s son apologises to PM; seeks visa for mom’s funeral

    By PTI

JAMMU: Awaiting the Indian government’s clearance for his visa to return from London for his mother’s last rites, JKNPP founder Bhim Singh’s son has apologised to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for participating in an anti-government protest last year after which he was blacklisted by the High Commission.

In an open letter to the prime minister, Ankit Love (39) said he regrets throwing eggs and stones at the High Commission during the February 2022 protest, and requested the PM to intervene so that he could return and perform the funeral of his mother Jay Mala (64).

Mala, a Supreme Court lawyer, died on April 26 and her body has been kept at the mortuary of Government Medical College (GMC) hospital in Jammu after Love requested it be kept there till he returns to perform the last rites.

This comes even as his relatives are engaged in a tussle to take control of the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) which has been in a disarray following Bhim Singh’s death on May 31, 2022.

Love could not join his funeral as well.

According to Love, he was blacklisted by India after the British police arrested him following a protest outside the Indian High Commission in London on February 14, 2022.

In an open letter to the prime minister, Love said he deeply and sincerely regrets his actions and apologises for his mistake of throwing eggs and stones at the High Commission.

“I will be deeply thankful if you could kindly forgive me and allow me to visit Jammu to perform the last rites of my mother — I need to reach Jammu urgently as everyone is waiting for my arrival to perform the last rites,” he said, adding it was also the wish of his mother.

Mentioning the Indian High Commission’s denial of approval for his travel, he said, “I assure you that henceforth there will be no such act by me against my Nation which I love very much and am very much proud of.”

“My father had fought all his life for Jammu and Kashmir to fully accede with India and eventually on 5th August 2019 India accepted Jammu and Kashmir as an integral part of India and my late father’s dream for joining Jammu and Kashmir with India came true,” he said, referring to the Centre’s move of abrogating Article 370 on that day.

Love said he was “misguided” by some other people surrounding him to commit the mistake, but expressed hope he will be forgiven and his visa cleared.

He also urged Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Jammu District Magistrate Avny Lavasa not to remove the body from the mortuary, and also postpone the postmortem.

“I request you not to remove her body from the mortuary till I am there, or till the Government of India refuses me officially, when either happens everyone will be most aware. Or else there will be a real black mark in the history of all involved and that of our Hindu faith too,” he said.

Shortly before the death of Bhim Singh, his two nephews — former minister Harsh Dev Singh (ex-JKNPP chairman) and former legislator Balwant Singh Mankotia — resigned from the party to join the Aam Aadmi Party.

While Mankotia, who had also served as JKNPP president, later joined the BJP, Harsh Dev returned to the JKNPP recently and claimed to have been elected as state party president.

However, Harsh Dev’s return brought together Vilaskshan Singh and another faction led by prominent leader and Bhim Singh’s close aide P K Gangoo.

Both Vilaskshan Singh and Gangoo contested Harsh Dev Singh’s claim.

They claimed to be the president of the party, Gangoo is its working president.

Mala had been staying at the residence of her niece and Vilakshan Singh’s sister Mrignayani Slathia at Domana where she had a fall from the stairs in the evening of April 25.

She died at a hospital the next day.

The body was shifted to Vilakshan Singh’s residence at Sidhra and later to the mortuary on the request of Love.

On April 28, Love, also the chief patron of the JKNPP, requested his cousin Vilaskahan Singh to resign from the post of the party president.

“Vilakshan Singh’s first responsibility as president was to ensure the security and survival of Panthers Party (co-) founder Jay Mala, widow of Prof. Bhim Singh, who died last year on May 31. She was only 64, and had many more years to keep on living and fighting for the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he had said.

“Despite Jay Mala’s death on 26 April being an accident recorded on CCTV,” Love said he believes Vilakshan Singh “failed in his responsibility and priority towards organising her better security, supervision and safe accommodation.”

He had also denied rumours Harsh Dev Singh was responsible for the delay in the cremation.

“I am the only one who has requested to delay my mother’s cremation, and that her body be preserved in the mortuary,” he said, requesting for a postmortem in his presence.

  • ‘Inspirational’: PM Narendra Modi hails Padma awardee 126-year-old Baba Sivanand for agility

    By ANI

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday hailed 126-year-old Padma awardee Baba Sivanand for agility and termed his passion for Yoga and dedication for a healthy lifestyle inspirational. In the 87th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, broadcast on Sunday, PM Modi said, “The life of Baba Sivananda is an inspiration for all of us. He has a passion for Yoga and leads a very healthy lifestyle.”

Referring to Baba Sivanand’s heartwarming gesture at the Padma Awards ceremony, the Prime Minister said that everyone must have observed Baba Sivanand in the recently held Padma Awards ceremony. “Seeing the agility of the 126-year-old, everyone must have been as astonished as I was. Before one could bat an eyelid, Baba started bowing in the Nandi Mudra. I bowed a number of times and offered Pranaam to Baba Sivanand ji,” said PM Modi, in his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’.

PM Modi noted Baba Sivanand’s age of 126-years and his fitness being “a subject of discussion” in the country. “I saw several comments on social media that Baba is more fit than people four-times younger than him,” he said while wishing him a long life.

Baba Sivanand received the Padma Shri award on Monday.

Dressed in a white kurta and dhoti, Baba Sivanand was a picture of simplicity and grace as he knelt and bowed down in front of the Prime Minister and President Ram Nath Kovind as a mark of respect. The Prime Minister too got up from the seat and bowed to the veteran Yoga legend.

The President stepped out and helped Sivananda to rise to his feet, after which he honoured him with the award and the duo posed for pictures and were seen in a brief conversation.

The oldest man to be conferred with the Padma Shri award, Swami Sivananda is a monk from Varanasi. Born in August 1896, he is cherishing his remarkable 126 years of living. Despite his distinctive age, he stands strong enough to perform Yoga for hours, according to a write-up by Rashtrapati Bhawan on Padma Awardees.

Swami wakes up as early as 3 am in the morning and adheres to a fixed routine. Standing 1.58 metres tall, Sivananda sleeps on a mat on the floor and uses a wooden slab as a pillow. Fit without any medical complications, he practices Yoga every day and performs all rituals on his own. He leads a simple life, eats a simple diet, and serves others with his selfless service.

In his childhood, poverty made him sleep empty stomach many times, while the rest of the time, his family could afford to feed him boiled rice and water. He was brought up by his Guru Omkarananda Goswami at an Ashram at Nabadwip in West Bengal. He imparted all practical and spiritual education, including Yoga without school education.

“Mann ki Baat” is the Prime Minister’s monthly radio address, which is broadcast on the last Sunday of every month at 11 am. The first episode of Mann Ki Baat was broadcast on October 3, 2014.

  • MHA showcauses Bathinda SSP, 5 other officers over ‘major lapses in security’ during PM’s visit

    By PTI

NEW DELHI: The Union Home Ministry has issued showcause notices to six senior officers, including the Bathinda police chief, over the “major lapses in security” during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab, officials said here on Friday.

Bathinda Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Maluja and the five other officers were responsible for the prime minister’s security during his visit to the state on January 5 and they have been asked to reply to the notices, officials told PTI here.

The home ministry is the cadre controlling authority for the Indian Police Service (IPS) officers.

Modi had to cut short his visit to Punjab on Wednesday after he was stuck on a flyover for 20 minutes due to a blockade by some protesters, an incident described by the home ministry as a “major lapse” in security.

“Yes, we have served a showcause notice to the SSP of Bathinda and asked him to submit a reply on the serious security lapses during the PM’s visit,” a senior officer privy to the development said.

Ajay Maluja is currently serving as SSP Bathinda.

Another official said that showcause notices were served to at least five other senior officers of the Punjab Police who were on duty during the prime minister’s visit.

The identity of the other officers were not disclosed immediately, but sources said they are police officers on the rank of SSP, DIG and above.

The home ministry, through its showcause notices, has asked the officers as to why action should not be initiated against them under the law including disciplinary proceedings as prescribed in the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal), Rules, 1969, for the acts of omission and commission.

The punishment under the said rules include suspension, compulsory retirement, censure and withholding of promotions if found guilty.

However, action against the “delinquent” officers will be taken only after a thorough inquiry.

The Central government on Thursday constituted a three-member committee, led by Sudhir Kumar Saxena, Secretary (Security), Cabinet Secretariat, and comprising of Balbir Singh, Joint Director of the Intelligence Bureau, and S Suresh, IG, Special Protection Group, to enquire into the “major lapses in security” during Modi’s visit to Punjab.

The committee is advised to submit the report at the earliest.

After he was stranded on the flyover due to a blockade by protesters, the prime minister had to return from the poll-bound state without attending any event, including a rally.

The home ministry had directed the state government to file an immediate report, asserting it did not ensure the required deployment, while Home Minister Amit Shah said that such dereliction of the security procedure during the prime minister’s visit is totally unacceptable and accountability will be fixed.

The incident triggered a major political row as the BJP alleged the ruling Congress in Punjab “tried to physically harm” the prime minister, while other parties too attacked the state government over the law and order issue.

On the defensive, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi denied there was any security lapse or political motive behind it and said his government was ready for an inquiry.

The Punjab government has also set up a committee on Wednesday to enquire into the incident.
