The spiritual fervor of Makar Sankranti transformed Haridwar’s Har Ki Pauri into a vibrant hub of devotion this week. Ignoring the plummeting mercury levels, lakhs of faithful souls immersed themselves in the Ganga’s purifying waters, continuing a timeless tradition despite the winter’s grip.

This festival, celebrated with kite-flying, bonfires, and sesame-based delicacies in many parts of India, takes on a uniquely pious hue in Haridwar. The Snan at Har Ki Pauri is considered highly auspicious, promising divine blessings and karmic cleansing.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of extraordinary unity – families, sadhus, and tourists alike dipping into the icy river while priests blessed the crowds. Enhanced security measures, including drone surveillance and additional police deployment, ensured order amid the massive influx.

‘Every shiver is worth it for this darshan of Ganga Maa,’ shared pilgrim Sunita Devi from Bihar. Temporary camps offering hot prasad and blankets dotted the area, showcasing community spirit. The event also boosted local economy, with shops selling puja items and traditional attire seeing brisk business.

Looking ahead, the Kumbh Mela preparatory vibes are palpable, as Makar Sankranti serves as a precursor. Environmentalists remind visitors to avoid plastic and support Ganga conservation efforts. As chants of ‘Har Har Gange’ echoed, the celebrations underscored the enduring power of faith over physical discomfort.

In an evocative social media update, Prime Minister Narendra Modi transported followers to the hallowed grounds of Somnath Temple, sharing intimate moments from his pilgrimage. The post, captioned with the profound line ‘Somnath embraces memories of innumerable sacrifices,’ paints a vivid picture of the site’s enduring legacy.

Nestled on Gujarat’s pristine coastline, Somnath has witnessed epochs of glory and devastation. Destroyed and rebuilt 17 times, its history is etched with the blood of warriors and devotees who defended its sanctity. PM Modi’s photographs capture the temple’s majestic shikhara piercing the sky, the rhythmic waves, and his serene darshan.

Modi recounted personal anecdotes from the visit, describing the chill of dawn prayers and the warmth of collective bhajans. This isn’t just a temple; it’s a chronicle of India’s fight against oppression, from Mahmud of Ghazni’s raids to modern restoration efforts. The 1951 rebuilding, under Home Minister Sardar Patel, symbolized a resurgent nation shaking off colonial shackles.

The post has sparked a wave of nostalgia and patriotism online, with users sharing family stories linked to Somnath. Historians praise Modi’s knack for weaving personal faith with national history, boosting cultural tourism. As Gujarat’s pride, Somnath remains a beacon, reminding every visitor of the price paid for faith’s preservation.

PM Modi’s outreach via such posts strengthens his connection with the masses, blending spirituality and statesmanship seamlessly.

Hazaribagh, Jharkhand – Devotees gathered in massive numbers at the Narsingh Sthan temple, located approximately six kilometers from the Hazaribagh district headquarters on Barkagaon Road, on Wednesday. Devotees participated in sacred bathing and meditation before offering prayers and seeking blessings from Lord Narsingh. The temple premises began to fill with pilgrims from as early as 3 AM.

Attracting visitors from neighboring districts, the annual fair held on the auspicious occasion of Kartik Purnima saw a significant influx of people for darshan and puja. To ensure smooth proceedings and maintain order during the bustling fair, authorities deployed 15 magistrates, 100 male and female police personnel, and 10 police officers. The Superintendent of Police, Anjani Anjan, also visited the temple to offer prayers and receive blessings from Lord Narsingh on Kartik Purnima.

Prominent political figures, including Congress leader Munna Singh and Sadar MLA Pradeep Prasad, also visited the temple to pay their respects and worship Lord Narsingh. Separate queues were arranged for male and female devotees to facilitate orderly darshan. All pilgrims patiently waited in line to offer their prayers and receive blessings.

The Kartik fair also witnessed a thriving market for sugarcane, with attendees eagerly purchasing the sweet stalks. The Narsingh Sthan temple complex is notable for housing idols of Lord Vishnu in all ten of his avatars: Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narsingh, Vamana, Parashurama, Rama, Krishna, Buddha, and Kalki.

Pakistan has issued more than 2,100 visas to Sikh pilgrims traveling from India to commemorate the upcoming birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji. These celebrations, known as Gurpurab, are scheduled to take place in Pakistan from November 4th to November 13th, 2025. The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi confirmed the visa issuance via its official X (formerly Twitter) account. This move facilitates a significant religious gathering, allowing Indian Sikh devotees to visit sacred sites in Pakistan. The Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, a vital link for pilgrims, has also seen its agreement extended for another five years, ensuring continued access to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur. India has previously encouraged Pakistan to waive service fees for pilgrims, addressing requests for the removal of the $20 charge per visit. The corridor, inaugurated in November 2019, allows Indian citizens to visit the shrine without a visa. The shrine, historically significant for Sikhs, was reopened after renovations in 1999 and has since hosted regular pilgrimage groups. While the corridor experienced a temporary suspension earlier this year due to security concerns following specific terror attacks, its continued operation is crucial for religious tourism.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly expanding its influence worldwide, and now it’s set to make the path to darshan (divine viewing) easier in temples. The Tirumala temple in Andhra Pradesh,…

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly expanding its influence worldwide, and now it’s set to make the path to darshan (divine viewing) easier in temples. The Tirumala temple in Andhra Pradesh, India, has become the first in the country to launch an AI-powered Integrated Command Control Center (ICCC), aimed at managing crowds effectively.

The Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple, located on the Tirumala hills in Andhra Pradesh, is a prominent Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Venkateswara, an incarnation of Vishnu. It is one of the most visited and revered pilgrimage sites in India, renowned for its spiritual significance and architectural grandeur. The temple witnesses massive crowds of devotees, and AI has been employed to manage the gatherings efficiently.

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), which manages the world-famous hill temple, has unveiled an AI-powered ICCC in Tirumala. This center was inaugurated by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.

This facility will transform the experience for millions of devotees visiting the temple by providing real-time crowd prediction, streamlined queue management, enhanced security, and advanced cyber threat monitoring.

The ICCC, established in the Vaikuntham Queue Complex-I, is equipped with advanced cameras, 3D situational maps, and continuous monitoring by a dedicated technical team.

This will serve as a national standard for tech-driven pilgrimage management, ensuring seamless services for devotees and efficient coordination for temple administrators.

At the heart of this state-of-the-art center are over 6,000 AI-based cameras, high-performance computing systems, and real-time dashboards capable of monitoring 518 million daily events and providing over 2.5 billion predictive insights per day.

With a processing capacity of 3.6 lakh payloads per minute, the system is designed to handle heavy data loads, enabling quick responses to emerging situations on the ground.

From predicting wait times for ‘Sarva Darshanam’ to visualizing crowd density in 3D, the ICCC will safeguard India’s busiest pilgrimage site from potential threats.

Additionally, the center’s cyber security will protect the temple’s systems and digital assets from misinformation, offensive content, and online threats.

Features include drone-assisted emergency response, tablet-based employee verification, and facial recognition for identifying missing persons.

‘Every stage of the pilgrims’ journey is now monitored and managed in real-time. From wait times in queues to security and cybersecurity, the ICCC ensures a fast, safe, and smooth experience,’ according to a TTD official.

The ICCC employs over two dozen trained professionals who work around the clock to monitor integrated dashboards and coordinate with various departments. This not only aids in quick decision-making but also enables real-time action on the ground.

Beyond crowd and queue management, the system is designed to protect the TTD’s reputation and ensure the smooth operation of the temple. Its cyber monitoring capabilities, including protection from misinformation campaigns and digital asset attacks, represent the integration of a digital approach in modern pilgrimage management.

This facility can set a new precedent for temple administration across India. Experts believe that Tirumala’s ICCC can serve as a model for other major temples and religious gatherings in the country, where managing large crowds, ensuring security, and dealing with digital threats are becoming increasingly complex.

With its unique blend of AI, machine learning, digital twins, and cloud-backed resilience, the Tirumala ICCC is hailed as a transformative leap for India’s spiritual tourism infrastructure. It demonstrates how tradition and cutting-edge technology can come together to better serve devotees while ensuring unprecedented levels of security, transparency, and efficiency.

The idea for the ICCC first came to Andhra Pradesh’s Information Technology Minister Nara Lokesh during his visit to Silicon Valley in October 2024, where he interacted with startups working on smart cities, digital twins, AI, and cybersecurity.

Inspired by these global practices, Lokesh initiated discussions with like-minded Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to bring scalable, secure, and service-oriented technologies to Tirumala, developing it based on a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

Following a review meeting led by Minister of Civil Aviation, Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has authorized the resumption of helicopter services for the 2025 Char Dham Yatra. This decision comes after a reduction in monsoon rains and improved weather conditions. The ministry has emphasized the importance of enhancing safety measures for the pilgrimage.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has instructed the DGCA to take stringent actions and ensure safe travel, with a firm stance against any lapses in security. The ministry coordinated with the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, holding several review meetings in Dehradun and Delhi to improve coordination between the DGCA, the Airports Authority of India, the state government, and the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority.

The DGCA conducted an assessment of all helipads, helicopters, and operator preparedness from September 13 to 16. Based on this assessment, the DGCA has granted permission for helicopter operations. Moreover, the DGCA provided information on challenges and additional safety measures related to pilgrimage operations to all helicopter operating companies and pilots. The ministry highlights the vital role of helicopter services in improving the accessibility of pilgrims to the high-altitude pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand. The DGCA will closely monitor helicopter operations during the Char Dham Yatra. Earlier, several helicopter crashes in the Char Dham sector in May-June raised concerns, leading to recommendations for enhanced safety measures from various high-powered committees.

Helicopter Services for Char Dham Yatra:

Charter services will be offered from Sahastradhara, Dehradun, to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath.
Shuttle services will be provided from the Guptkashi, Phata, Sitapur cluster to Shri Kedarnath Ji Helipad.
Six helicopter operators will conduct helicopter shuttle operations from the Guptkashi, Phata, Sitapur cluster and seven operators will conduct charter flights from Dehradun (Sahastradhara).

Before boarding a helicopter, all passengers will be provided with safety information, including the use of seatbelts, instructions on boarding and disembarking safely, and measures to be taken in emergency situations.

The ancient and mysterious Maa Lingeshwari Temple, located in a cave on the hill of Aalor Jhatiban village, under the Pharsagaon block of Kondagaon district, will open for only one…

The ancient and mysterious Maa Lingeshwari Temple, located in a cave on the hill of Aalor Jhatiban village, under the Pharsagaon block of Kondagaon district, will open for only one day this year. The doors of the cave temple will be opened on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, according to tradition.

This temple, situated in the scenic valleys of Bastar, is considered a remarkable center of religious faith. Maa Lingeshwari is enshrined here in the form of a Shivling. It is believed that the wishes of devotees who come to the temple to pray are fulfilled.

Every year, thousands of devotees arrive here, not only from Chhattisgarh but also from other states. Couples without children especially come to seek the blessings of the Mother for offspring. According to tradition, cucumbers are offered at the temple. Afterward, the priest cuts the cucumber into equal parts and gives it as a prasad to both the husband and wife.
Good news for those wishing to travel from Varanasi to Gaya Ji in Bihar for the purpose of offering ‘Pind Daan’ and ‘Tarpan’ during the Pitru Paksha period. The government, under the leadership of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is launching a special bus service from Varanasi to Gaya Ji. This initiative will particularly benefit devotees looking to perform rituals during Pitru Paksha.

General passengers will also be able to utilize the bus service to travel to Gaya Ji. The comfort of the passengers has been taken into consideration. The bus will operate seven days a week. According to Transport Minister (Independent Charge) Dayashankar Singh, the bus will depart from Varanasi (Cantt) and travel via Chandauli-Sasaram-Aurangabad-Sherghati before reaching Gaya Ji. Devotees can easily reach Gaya Ji by bus during the Pitru Paksha period. Other passengers along the route can also take advantage of this bus service.

The bus will depart from Varanasi station at 8 PM. It will arrive in Gaya Ji, Bihar, at 4 AM. The fare from Varanasi to Bihar is set at 465 rupees. Dayashankar Singh stated that this bus service will reduce people’s reliance on private vehicles, saving them time and money. The minister further mentioned the significant number of devotees visiting Gaya Ji during the Pitru Paksha.

Considering the needs of these devotees, the Transport Corporation conducted thorough deliberations. If everything proceeds smoothly, there are plans to operate this bus service on a regular basis. The state government aims to boost tourism and provide improved facilities for people and devotees.

Additionally, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation already operates a direct interstate bus service from Lucknow to Muzaffarpur, Bihar. The fare for this bus is 862 rupees. This bus departs from Lucknow’s Alambagh Bus Terminal at 2 AM and reaches Muzaffarpur at 4 AM the following day.
