  • China Sends Warplanes & Personnel To Pakistan For Joint Military Drills Near India Border

A batch of Chinese air force personnel left for Pakistan on Monday to participate in a joint exercise to deepen practical cooperation and improve the actual-combat training level of the two sides, the Chinese military said.

The troops left for Pakistani Air Force’s airbase in Bholari at Thatta district in Sindh, northeast of Pakistan’s port city of Karachi, to participate in the drills named “Shaheen (Eagle)-IX”, a statement issued by China’s Defence Ministry said. The joint air force exercise, which will be held close to the Gujarat border is said to conclude in late December and is a project within the 2020 cooperation plan of the two militaries.

“It will promote the development of China-Pakistan military-to-military relationships, deepen practical cooperation between the two air forces, and improve the actual-combat training level of the two sides,” it said. The first such drill was held in Pakistan in March 2011. All-weather friends, China and Pakistan share close military ties. China helps Pakistan to jointly produce JF-17 fighter jets and other armaments.

The drill comes in the backdrop of the ongoing India-China border friction along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh and Pakistan miserably failing to send terrorists across the Line of Control (LOC) before winters settle in.

  • President-PM pays tribute to 26/11, pays tribute to martyrs

On the 12th anniversary of Mumbai terror attacks, political leaders and people on Thursday paid tributes to victims and security personnel who lost their lives in the siege on India’s financial capital.

The ghastly attacks, which began on November 26, 2008, lasted for four days, leading to the death of 166 people and injuring over 300. While paying tribute, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that the nation will be eternally grateful to all the security forces personnel who made the supreme sacrifice.

“Heartfelt tributes to the victims & martyrs of 26/11 #MumbaiTerrorAttack & salute to the strength & resilience of people of Mumbai. We will be eternally grateful to all the security forces personnel who valiantly fought & made the supreme sacrifice for Mother India on that day,” Goyal tweeted.

Social media too saw an outpouring of gratitude and homage to the victims and security personnel as people trended several hashtags related to the 26/11 terror attacks.

Meanwhile, in Washington DC, Indian-Americans and other community organisations held protests in front of the Capitol Hill.

A truck with a billboard, reading “We demand justice” was seen outside Pakistan and Turkish embassies in Washington DC on the eve of the Mumbai terror attack anniversary.

Twenty-Six Eleven, as these attacks are often referred to, witnessed 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists coming to Mumbai via sea route from Pakistan and carried out a series of coordinated shooting and bombing attacks across the city.

  • Concerns Arise About Preparations of Pitch for India’s MCG Test

The surge in coronavirus positive cases in Adelaide and South Australia has left quite a few involved in the organisation of the India-Australia series in a spot of bother. Not only has the situation caused changes in personnel, emergency airlifts but also led to concerns around the pitch for the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

MCC chief executive Stuart Fox is concerned that they might not get to trial the pitches before the Test.

As is the tradition in Australian cricket, the MCG is set to host the Boxing Day Test but could also be awarded the opening Test against India depending on the situation in Adelaide.

Cricket Australia is confident Adelaide will retain the day-night clash but it remains unclear what restrictions and protocols will be in place once the South Australian government lifts a six-day lockdown next week.

It was the coronavirus spike that led to the Sheffield Shield games being moved from the MCG and the same problem albeit in a different city has resulted in trial matches for the drop-in pitches to be cancelled. The MCC however does hope that a trial game can still be squeezed in before the Tests get underway, reported the Sydney Morning Herald.

“It is a concern for me because I would like to give them every opportunity to trial the pitches but we [were to have had] a Test event the other day and Cricket Victoria were supporting us, we were meant to have players and a two-day game and we had the pitch ready to go but the game got cancelled the night before and that was really, ultimately, the result of the situation in South Australia,” Fox explained on RSN radio.

“I think it demonstrates how vulnerable we still are day by day. Ideally, we would love to have a game and we are still working on that but, ultimately, it may not happen.

“Matt is in a good spot. He produced a really good pitch last year that got a really good rating and he knows his trade. He is year three in and he is starting to deeply understand our pitches compared to where he was.”

While Matt Page, the curator looks for ways to get past this hurdle, Australia’s Pat Cummins has said that the bowlers would like quick and bouncy pitches to unsettle the Indian batting, which will be without Virat Kohli after the first Test.Read Full Article

  • This major hurdle faced by retired government personnel on GPF, solution will be found in this way

A major hurdle has come to the fore about the ‘GPF’, the General Provident Fund of retired central government employees. It has been seen that the correct situation is not being revealed regarding the GPF account of many retired personnel. If interest has not been added to the amount in the account of an employee, then the correct amount is not shown anywhere.

The main reason for this is that the credit entry in the GPF account of the personnel is not timely. This problem is coming more in front of the workers, who have been moving from one institution to another during their service. The central government has now directed all its offices to report the missing credit of GPF account every financial year. This information will be sent to the officer who will be responsible for deduction of GPF subscription. This information will also be given to the worker whose GPF reduction has been found.

According to the Pension Department of the Government of India, complaints of many retired workers were coming from the last few days. His problem was with his GPF. Workers who go from one institution to another during their service, go on deputation abroad or move to another cadre under the All India Service, have had a problem with GPF.
This is because the salary bills that are made by an establishment and the GPF amount are deducted are different from the earlier department. This deficiency also comes due to lack of adequate coordination between the two departments. Such problems can be got rid of if information is exchanged between the two departments in coordination and on time.

In order to remove such complaints and to maintain transparency in administration, it has been decided that every office must keep a record of the missing credit entry of GPF account and inform the concerned employee and the officer every financial year. Those responsible for deduction of GPF subscription.

Two years before the retirement of the employee and a year after the retirement, the complete details of the GPF account of the concerned employee should be given. This should include all entries of credit, debit and interest related to service. In such cases any employee can apply for hearing in his office.

Such cases will be resolved in 60 days. All ministries and departments have been asked to strictly follow these instructions.
