  • Joe Biden Reiterates He ‘will Be President For All Americans’ After Electors Confirm Win

US President-elect Joe Biden sealed his electoral victory over Donald Trump after gaining 270 electoral college votes on December 14. Following his win, Biden delivered a speech from his home city of Wilmington, Delaware and reiterated that he “will be a President for all Americans”. He appealed to “turn the page” on the divisive contest and said that it is “time to heal and to unite”.

On Monday, while the 78-year-old Democrat was already projected to surge past the magic mark, the additional 55 votes from California electors took his total vote count to 302. According to AP, in the states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, elector’s gave Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris their votes in person whereas Nevada’s electors met via Zoom because of the coronavirus pandemic. President Trump, on the other hand, earlier this week said that his fight to challenge the result of the November 3 presidential polls is “not over”.

  • Donald Trump’s Legal Team ‘not Finished’ After Supreme Court Defeat, Says Rudy Giuliani

US President Donald Trump’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani on December 11 indicated that Trump’s legal team will continue to challenge the outcome of the November 3 presidential elections. Giuliani’s comments come after the Supreme Court rejected to overturn the vote count in four swing states- Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The Supreme Court said that the lawsuit led by Texas lacked the legal right to litigate over how other states conduct their elections. However, Trump’s attorney indicated that the President could bring his complaints back to the lower courts.

Giuliani’s remarks follow the most significant legal setback the GOP legal campaign has suffered since the election. Trump and his allies in state government have repeatedly pushed lawsuits based on spurious claims that widespread voter fraud and irregularities cost the president the election. However, almost all of them have been dismissed for lack of evidence of standing. Giuliani has also been making high-profile appearances in front of lawmakers in battleground states, even though he has failed to sway any state to subvert the election result.

Trump, on the other hand, continues to repeatedly question the legitimacy of Joe Biden’s win and seeking recounts in several states, despite election officials have already certified the President-elect’s victory in the presidential polls. Following the order by the US Apex Court, evidently disappointed Donald Trump also took to Twitter and said that the Supreme Court “let us down”. While Trump accused the country’s highest judicial institution of having neither wisdom nor courage, Joe Biden’s campaign spokesperson Mike Gwin said that the decision was “no surprise”. As per reports, the Texas attorney general called the court’s order “unfortunate” and pledged to continue to ‘tirelessly defend the integrity and security’ of the US Elections.

  • Melania Trump wants Donald Trump to accept his loss and concede defeat to President-elect Joe Biden

US First Lady Melania Trump has joined other members of her husband Donald Trump’s inner circle asking him to accept his loss and concede defeat to President-elect Joe Biden, informed a source familiar with the conversations.

The source said that although Melania has not publicly commented on the election, she has privately weighed in with her opinion, reported CNN.
“She has offered it, as she often does,” said the source.

Melania had earlier campaigned for her husband’s re-election campaign last month. Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and his senior adviser, had earlier approached the President about conceding the election, two sources told CNN.

The move came after Trump, in a statement, said that Biden is “rushing to falsely pose as the winner” and that the race is “far from over”.Trump claimed that networks were helping the Democrat “falsely” pose as the winner and promised to fight the results in court, reported The Hill.

President-elect Joe Biden had defeated Trump in a closely contested election, securing his win by a victory in the state of Pennsylvania which took him past the electoral college threshold of 270 votes. In this, his third attempt at the White House, Biden, a four-decade Washington figure as a Senator and then a vice president, received more than 74 million votes, 4 million more than Trump, and more than any other presidential candidate.

  • Twitter, Facebook Flag Donald Trump’s Post Questioning Supreme Court’s Voting Decision

In the hours just before US Election 2020, Twitter and Facebook flagged a post by US President Donald Trump in which he calls Supreme Court’s decision on voting in Pennsylvania “very dangerous” and claims about potential violence. US Apex Court just last week had permitted to extend the deadlines for receiving mail-in ballots during November 3 in Pennsylvania and North Carolina states that can contribute to Trump’s re-election. This decision by the court let stand a ruling by Pennsylvania’s top court allowing mail-in ballots postmarked by Tuesday and received up to three days later to be counted.

However, this angered the Republican leader who has repeatedly questioned the integrity of mail-in ballots and recently indicated that he is readying his lawyers for November 3. Trump took to his social media accounts and baselessly claimed that the decision by Supreme Court is “very dangerous one” and that it will lead to “rampant and unchecked cheating and will undermine” US laws. He added, “It will also induce violence in the streets. Something must be done!”

But Twitter and Facebook quickly flagged the post on their respective platforms to prevent the spread of misinformation of baseless claims to spread like wildfire. While Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook attached a link about voting information and said the mail-in or in-person voting is safe in the US, Jack Dorsey’s Twitter said that Trump’s post shows “disputed content” and that it “might be misleading”. These actions by social media websites came in line with various measures taken to ensure the safety of US citizens and maintaining peace just hours before the election.
