Kinetic, once a prominent name in the scooter market, is reportedly planning a comeback with an electric vehicle (EV) version of its classic two-wheeler. The original Kinetic scooter, a joint venture with Honda, was a popular choice for its ease of use, powered by a 2-stroke 98cc engine. This engine delivered approximately 7.7 hp and a maximum torque of 1.0 KGm. The scooter was known for its fuel efficiency, offering 40 kmpl.

Kinetic is looking to re-enter the market with the EV, potentially leveraging its existing brands, Kinetic Green and Kinetic Watts and Volts. The latter has recently patented a new electric scooter design, sparking speculation about a relaunch. The EV scooter is expected to compete with other electric scooters like the Hero, Ather, TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, and Ola S1 range. The design is inspired by the Kinetic Honda ZX, and it will retain the original scooter’s overall silhouette, including the angular headlight and squarish mirrors, with a spacious floorboard. To facilitate production, Kinetic has established a manufacturing unit in Ahilya Nagar, Maharashtra, aiming to capture a significant share of the growing electric scooter market in India.

Honda has recently patented an updated version of the Honda Scoopy, sparking speculation about a possible launch in the Indian market. The company often patents vehicles for intellectual property rights (IPR) purposes, but some patented models eventually make their way to market. The 2025 iteration of the Scoopy features a refreshed front fascia, a round LED headlight with DRL, a full LCD instrument cluster, and indicators for eco-driving, fuel consumption, and service. The international variant is powered by a 109.5 cc air-cooled engine that delivers approximately 9 horsepower and 9.2 Nm of torque, paired with a CVT transmission. This engine is also found in Honda’s Dio and Activa models in India. However, reports suggest that the Scoopy’s patent in India may solely be for IPR protection, with a launch being unlikely. The Scoopy is currently sold in Southeast Asian markets.

Yamaha is poised to expand its FZ lineup with a new hybrid model, according to recent reports. Patent filings suggest a 149cc hybrid FZ is in development, potentially launching soon in India. Following the introduction of a hybrid version of the Ray Z scooter, Yamaha aims to offer a more affordable hybrid option for broader market penetration. To achieve a competitive price point, the new FZ hybrid might forgo features like a TFT instrument panel and certain styling elements found in higher-spec variants. The existing hybrid FZ currently retails at Rs 1.45 lakh, and a more budget-friendly variant could enhance Yamaha’s presence in the segment. The bike is expected to incorporate a 149cc blue core engine with a starter motor to aid the start-stop system. This will also assist in providing better fuel efficiency compared to conventional petrol-powered bikes, due to its ability to shut off when stopping. The hybrid setup will also provide battery-assisted pickup which will improve performance.

TVS is poised to introduce a new scooter, potentially the TVS X, which is expected to be an upgraded version of the i-Qube, slated for launch in the fiscal year…

TVS is poised to introduce a new scooter, potentially the TVS X, which is expected to be an upgraded version of the i-Qube, slated for launch in the fiscal year 2026. These upcoming vehicles are likely to be global offerings, manufactured domestically and then exported. Recent developments include a patent filing in Indonesia, providing a glimpse into the scooter’s design and potential features.

The design appears to be relatively conventional, with a focus on simplicity. Patent leaks show the scooter featuring a standard headlight design and side-mounted grab rails at the rear. The design echoes some elements of the i-Qube, including horizontal LED daytime running lights (DRL) and LED indicators.

Details suggest the battery may be positioned under the seat, and the scooter includes a tall windscreen. Additional features include a small glovebox and a charging port. The front wheel appears visually larger than the rear, and a mid-mounted motor driving the rear wheel via a belt drive is indicated.

While TVS has not officially confirmed specifics about the leaked patent images, it is possible that this scooter could be an internal combustion engine (ICE) model. However, the belt drive system hints at the possibility of an electric vehicle (EV) variant.
