  • Paramount Players picks up US distribution rights to horror-thriller ‘Orphan: First Kill’

    WASHINGTON: Hollywood studio Paramount Players has acquired the US distribution rights to ‘Orphan: First Kill’, the prequel to the 2009 film ‘Orphan’.

    As per The Hollywood Reporter, the studio picked up the domestic rights to the horror-thriller from eOne and Dark Castle.

    The movie, now in post-production, is a prequel to Dark Castle’s ‘Orphan’, which was distributed by Warner Bros.

    EOne and Dark Castle co-financed the prequel that was directed by William Brent Bell, who previously helmed ‘The Boy’ and ‘The Devil Inside’.

    ‘Orphan: First Kill’ revolves around Leena, a murderous sociopath who looks like a child due to a medical condition. Following an escape from an Estonian psychiatric facility, Leena comes to America by impersonating the missing daughter of a wealthy Connecticut family. But Leena’s new life as Esther comes with an unexpected wrinkle and pits her against a mother who will protect her family at any cost.

    Isabelle Fuhrman is reprising her role from the original movie and now also serves as an associate producer on the new movie. Julia Stiles stars as the mother with Rossif Sutherland, Matthew Finlan and Hiro Kanagawa rounding out the cast.

    Dave Coggeshall wrote the script for the upcoming horror thriller. Alex Mace, Hal Sadoff and Ethan Erwin produced the project along with James Tomlinson.

    David Leslie Johnson, who wrote the original for Dark Castle, executive produced along with Daryl Katz, Chloe Katz, Paul Marcaccio, Victor Moyers and Kyle Irving. Co-producers are Kelly Gallagher and Robert Bell.

    No release date for the movie has been set yet.

    LOS ANGELES: Hollywood studio Paramount Players has picked up “Orphan: First Kill” for distribution in the United States.

    The movie is a prequel to 2009’s “Orphan”, which featured actors Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard in the lead.

    Actor Isabelle Fuhrman will reprise her iconic role of Esther in the new film, which is being directed by William Brent Bell of “The Boy” fame.

    According to The Hollywood Reporter, EOne and Dark Castle co-financed the prequel that is currently in post-production stage.

    Written by David Coggeshall, the film will see Leena Klammer, who posed as nine-year-old Esther Coleman in the first film, orchestrating a brilliant escape from an Estonian psychiatric facility and travelling to America by impersonating the missing daughter of a wealthy family.

    But Leena’s new life as “Esther” comes with an unexpected wrinkle and pits her against a mother (Stiles) who will protect her family at any cost.

    “Orphan: First Kill” will also feature Julia Stiles, Rossif Sutherland, Hiro Kanagawa, Jade Michael, Matthew Finlan, and Morgan Giraudet.

  • Jake Lacy, Maika Monroe cast in Significant Other

    Jake Lacy and Maika Monroe have joined Paramount Players’ new sci-fi thriller, Significant Other. The production label of Paramount Pictures recently won rights to the project in bidding, with Dan Berk and Robert Olsen serving as writers and directors of the project. The duo previously helmed the thrillers Body and Villains.

    The film is set to debut on Paramount+. Lacy was recently seen in HBO’s hit show The White Lotus, where he played the elitist Shane Patton. He is also known for being a part of films like Obvious Child and How To Be Single and TV shows Girls, The Office, and I’m Dying Up Here. He is now currently filming a role in the new biopic, Being the Ricardos.

    Monroe is famous for her breakout role in the modern horror classic, It Follows, and is a part of films including Greta, Honey Boy, and The Guest. Her upcoming roles include a new thriller by Zach Ford titled Watcher, and the new Nick Cassavetes film starring Jamie Foxx called God is a Bullet.
