Narendra informed the police that he had obtained the elephant named Jaymati from a person named Sangam Lal on a responsibility agreement. Due to a lack of food and water arrangements in their village, he brought the elephant to Jharkhand. He had entrusted the responsibility of taking care of the elephant to Munna Pandey, a resident of Mirzapur, and Munna Pathak, a resident of Chunar, Mirzapur. Both became friends with Tarkeshwar Nath, the owner of another elephant.

They arrived in the Jorkat area of the Medininagar Sadar police station area of Palamu with the two elephants. Narendra stated that he arrived in Palamu on August 11.
