  • ‘Communal mindset’: India slams OIC for its remarks on Ram Navami violence

    Express News Service

NEW DELHI: India has condemned the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) statement made on India where they have denounced the alleged acts of violence against minorities.

“We strongly condemn the statement issued by OIC Secretariat regarding India. This is one more example of their communal mindset and anti-India agenda. OIC only does its reputation damage by being consistently manipulated by anti-India forces,” said Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

This reaction came after OIC issued a statement expressing deep concern over acts of violence and vandalism targeting the Muslim community in several states in India during Ram Navmi. This included the burning of a Madrasa.

“The OIC general secretariat denounces such acts of violence and vandalism which are a vivid reflection of Islamophobia and systematic targeting of the Muslim community,” the OIC statement added.

OIC is a 57-member group of Muslim countries.

The OIC general secretariat called upon Indian authorities to take form action against instigators and perpetrators of such acts of violence which they alleged are targeting the Muslim community.

The last time India spoke about the OIC was in December 2022 when OIC’s secretary general Hussein Brahim Tala visited Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

“Let me reiterate that OIC has no locus standi in matters related to J&K which is an integral part of India. Any attempt at meddling in India’s internal matter by OIC or its Secretary General,” MEA had said adding that the OIC had lost its credibility by taking a blatantly communal, partisan and incorrect approach.

  • India calls out Pakistan, OIC for K-anard at UNHRC session

    By Express News Service

India on Wednesday gave the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) a piece of its mind for raising Kashmir at the UN Human Rights Commission, calling it out for allowing itself to be held hostage by Pakistan.

Exercising its rights to respond to comments made by Pakistan and the OIC on Kashmir at the ongoing session of the council, India said Pakistan has been globally recognised as a country openly supporting, training, financing and arming terrorists as a matter of state policy.

The stinging response came from Pawan Badhe, first secretary in India’s permanent mission in Geneva. “India, as not only the world’s largest democracy but a robustly functional and vibrant one, does not need lessons from a failed state like Pakistan which is the epicentre of terrorism and worst abuser of human rights,” he acidly said.

Pakistan, he added, has failed to protect the rights of its minorities, including Sikhs, Hindus, Christians and Ahmadiyas. “Pakistan has been engaged in systematic persecution, forced conversions, targeted killings, sectarian violence and faith-based discrimination against its ethnic and religious minorities,” he said.

Turning his attention to the OIC, Badhe said it has no locus to comment on Kashmir. “The OIC has helplessly allowed itself to be held hostage by Pakistan…. It’s for the members of the OIC to decide if it is in their interest to allow Pakistan to do so.”

  • OIC meets India envoy, seeks to send team to see Jammu & Kashmir situation

    By Express News Service
NEW DELHI:  The Secretary-general of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), a 57-member grouping, sought to send a delegation to Jammu and Kashmir and raised issues concerning the situation of Muslims in India, in a meeting with India’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. The rare meeting between an Indian diplomat and an OIC secretary general was held on July 5 in Saudi Arabia’s port city of Jeddah.

“The Secretary General welcomed Ambassador Ausaf Sayeed and reviewed with him a number of issues concerning the situation of Muslims in India, along with the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, and relevant UN and OIC resolutions opposing any unilateral actions on the issue,” a statement from the OIC noted.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindham Bagchi said the meeting was held on the request of the Islamic bloc.

“A wide range of issues was discussed. Our ambassador conveyed the need to correct some of the misperceptions about India that are being perpetrated by the vested interests in the OIC,” Bagchi said.Ambassador Sayeed told the OIC to ensure that its platform is not used by those with vested interest to make comments on India’s internal affairs or to spread anti-India propaganda through biased and one-sided resolutions, Bagchi said.

India has maintained that the OIC has no locus standi on Kashmir, and had, in the past, called out the grouping for making unwarranted references to India in its resolutions. New Delhi had also raised concerns that Pakistan is trying to use the OIC as an anti-India platform.
