Bilaspur is today known as Nyayadhani. Today we are going to tell you the history of Bilaspur. Historically, Bilaspur was controlled by the Kalchuri dynasty of Ratanpur. However the city of Bilaspur came to prominence around the year 1741 during the reign of the Maratha Empire. Bilaspur city is almost 400 years old and “Bilaspur” is named after a fisher-woman named “Bilasa”. Bilaspur district was formed in the year 1861 and after that in the year 1867, Bilaspur municipality was formed. Bilaspur district is famous not only in the state of Chhattisgarh, but in India because of its unique features like quality of rice, kosa industry and its cultural background. Bilaspur district is known as “rice bowl” for the entire state of Chhattisgarh.
