  • Internet services suspended in communal riots-hit Nuh till August 28 amid calls for VHP’s yatra

    By PTI

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government on Saturday ordered the suspension of mobile internet and the bulk SMS services in the communally charged Nuh till August 28 in view of the call for a ‘Shobha Yatra’.

The government announced the decision apprehending the spread of rumours through social media by anti-social elements ahead of or during the rally called to be held on Monday.

The suspension order was issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) T V S N Prasad on Saturday.

The Haryana government had earlier too suspended the mobile internet services in Nuh after the breaking out of communal clashes.

Six people, including two home guards and a cleric, had died in the communal clashes that erupted in Nuh when a religious procession of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) was attacked by a mob on July 31.

“…This order is issued to prevent disturbance of peace and public order in the jurisdiction of district Nuh and shall be in force with effect from August 26, 1200 hrs, to August 28, 2359 hrs..,” the order issued by Prasad read.

Earlier on Friday, Nuh Deputy Commissioner had written to the ACS (Home) bringing to his notice that there is a call from ‘Sarv Jatiya Hindu Mahapanchayat’ for a ‘Brij Mandal Shoba Yatra’ on August 28 in the district and there is an apprehension of misuse of social media/bulk messages by anti-social elements to disturb the peace.

“Therefore, it is necessary to suspend all the mobile internet and bulk SMS service in Nuh district to avoid any untoward situation,” the DC wrote, requesting the ACS (Home) to issue necessary directions.

In his Saturday order, Prasad said there is a clear potential for disruption of public utilities, damage to public assets and amenities and disturbance of public law and order in Nuh through the spread of rumours and inflammatory content through the internet.

He ordered the temporary suspension of the mobile internet services (2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, CDMA, GPRS), bulk SMS (excluding banking and mobile recharge) and all dongle services provided on mobile networks except voice calls.

  • Haryana violence: Farmer leaders resolve to restore peace

    By PTI

HISAR: A ‘maha panchayat’ was organized in Baas village of this district on Wednesday where people from different faiths, farmer outfits, and khaps talked about strengthening bonds among communities.

The initiative comes days after the communal clashes in Nuh.

A number of Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs took part in the maha panchayat which was organized under the banner of the Bhartiya Kisan Mazdoor Union.

A resolution taken at the meeting stated that people from different religions, including Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs, will work to restore peace in the Mewat region.

“The government has been asked to conduct an impartial inquiry into the matter and arrest the culprits. Immediate action should be taken against those who post provocative speeches and videos on social media to incite riots in society and arrest them,” it stated.

Suresh Koth, one of the organizers and a member of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, asserted that Haryana’s soil will not be used to divide people on the lines of caste and religion. He also condemned some panchayat heads in Mahendergarh, Rewari, and Jhajjar districts purportedly writing letters ‘ banning’ Muslim traders from the respective villages.

Some speakers at the event from the Muslim community underlined the need to learn from Mahabharata and Ramayana.

“We all need to walk together and have love and respect towards each other. There is no scope for hate,” one of the speakers at the gathering noted.

Six people, including two home guards and a cleric, died in the clashes that erupted in Muslim-dominated Nuh when a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) procession or the Braj Mandal Yatra was attacked by mobs on July 31. Gurugram also witnessed stray incidents of violence.

  • Over 200 arrested, 102 FIRs lodged in Nuh violence: Haryana minister

    By PTI

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij on Friday said 202 people have been arrested so far and 80 taken into preventive detention in connection with the communal clashes in Nuh.

He also said the way bullets were fired from hillocks and stones collected on rooftops of buildings indicates that Nuh’s violence was pre-planned.

In all, police have so far filed 102 FIRs in the matter.

“I want to assure you that anyone involved in the violence won’t be spared,” Vij told reporters in Ambala, adding, the detainees are being questioned. It is a big game plan, every person had a lathi in his hand. Were these being distributed for free? Someone must have arranged these. Bullets were being fired. From where did weapons come? We will go to the depth of the matter,” he said.

The minister had earlier on Tuesday too said the violence was engineered and had a mastermind behind it.

However, in a press conference on Friday, the Nuh Superintendent of Police said they have so far found no indication of there being a mastermind behind the clashes.

Nuh SP Narendra Singh Bijarnia said the investigation so far has suggested the involvement of disparate elements, which are being identified and arrested.

Meanwhile, when the minister was asked if the administration will resort to bulldozing the properties of the culprits, he quipped “Bulldozer, wherever necessary, will be used”.

“Ilaj mein bulldozer bhi ek karavayi hai (bulldozer is part of the treatment),” he said.

Haryana authorities have used bulldozers in the past to raze structures of alleged criminals in Nuh and other parts.

On a cybercrime police station being targeted in Nuh, Vij said, “We have taken the incident very seriously.” Investigations are underway to find out who attacked the police station and what records they wanted to destroy, he said.

He said Nuh was becoming a new Jamtara — the Jharkhand district notorious as India’s cyber crime hub.

A massive crackdown was launched earlier this year against cyber criminals and several people were arrested for defrauding people across India.

“In April a house-to-house search was conducted with 5,000 police personnel. Many laptops, several thousand SIM cards and ATM cards were found there, on which action was also taken. Now the cyber station that has been attacked, and the way attempts have been made to tamper with the files, has made us launch an investigation into whether cyber thugs attacked the computer systems also of the police station,” said Vij.

Six people, including two home guards and a cleric, died in the clashes that erupted in Muslim-dominated Nuh when a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession was attacked by mobs on Monday.

Vij said police were recording people’s statements and scanning CCTV footage.

He also urged the journalists who have been to Nuh to cover the clashes since Monday to provide videos and feeds to the authorities to help them investigate the clashes.

Vij made the same request to people who were part of the procession where the violence first broke out.

Asked if the authorities had received intelligence about potential trouble during the VHP Yatra, as purportedly shown in a TV channel sting, Vij said “at what level the input was there, who was told about it, all these things will be investigated.”

Vij said an Inspector is heard saying something during a TV sting and the video has been sent by him to the Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, for analysis. If that inspector had any information, then who did he give it to and at what level, this all will be investigated, he said.

When asked about Ashok Gehlot’s allegation that Haryana Police did not cooperate in the arrest of Monu Manesar “a cow vigilante who is wanted in a case by Rajasthan Police” Vij said, “Congress chief ministers are known for making irresponsible statements and they talk irresponsibly all over the country.”

“They should come and arrest Monu Manesar, we have never stopped anyone, the Haryana Police also goes to the other states to arrest the culprit, everyone cooperates, and we will also cooperate,” he said.

The Home Minister said all measures are being taken to restore peace in Nuh and nearby districts.

Referring to the Friday namaz, the minister said he has spoken to deputy commissioners of Nuh, Faridabad, and Gurugram, and instructed them to make adequate security arrangements.
