The United States Department of Defense, the Pentagon, has made public videos of its attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities. This release follows conflicting reports regarding the extent of the damage inflicted. Some reports suggest significant disruption to Iran’s nuclear program, while others claim the impact was minimal, with Iran allegedly removing uranium from the targeted sites before the strikes.

During a Thursday news conference, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and Gen. Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, provided a detailed account of the planning and execution of the US strikes. The released footage included visuals of bunker buster bombs impacting the Fordow nuclear site.

Gen. Caine presented the footage, showcasing the impact of the bunker buster bombs on the Fordow site. Secretary Hegseth disputed an earlier Defence Intelligence Agency report that suggested the strikes caused only limited damage. He strongly emphasized the severity of the attacks, using terms like “decimating,” “obliterating,” and “destroying” to underscore the level of destruction. Although the damage caused by the bunker-buster bomb was not clearly visible on the surface level. The footage showcased the different types of impacts that the bombs made.

Gen Caine stated that a bomb has three main effects: blast, fragmentation, and overpressure. He elaborated that overpressure and blast were the primary mechanisms of destruction in these strikes.

Reports from the US and Israel indicate that three Iranian nuclear sites experienced substantial damage. President Donald Trump asserted that the targeted locations were obliterated during the US Air Force attacks. Despite these claims, Iran has acknowledged the strikes but downplayed the extent of the damage.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has declared its top priority is to dispatch inspectors to Iranian nuclear facilities to assess the impact of recent US and Israeli strikes. IAEA chief Rafael Mariano Grossi emphasized the urgency, stating that inspectors need access to the three key enrichment sites. Grossi highlighted the critical need for diplomacy, urging a return to negotiations and allowing IAEA officials to monitor uranium stockpiles, especially the 60% enriched material. He warned of severe consequences if dialogue fails, potentially leading to the collapse of the global non-proliferation regime. The IAEA views on-site verification as crucial to any future agreements.

Following a reported ceasefire between Israel and Iran, the United States is expressing concerns over the potential disappearance of a significant uranium stockpile. According to U.S. Vice President JD Vance,…

Following a reported ceasefire between Israel and Iran, the United States is expressing concerns over the potential disappearance of a significant uranium stockpile. According to U.S. Vice President JD Vance, approximately 400kg of uranium, enough to potentially produce up to 10 nuclear weapons, is unaccounted for. This news emerged after the U.S. conducted airstrikes, dropping six ‘bunker buster’ bombs on three Iranian nuclear facilities. The missing uranium is enriched to 60%, a level that can be further enriched to the 90% needed for weapons. The situation raises serious questions about Iran’s nuclear ambitions and the potential for the missing material to be used as a bargaining chip in future negotiations. Initial reports suggest Iran may have moved the stockpile and related equipment before the attacks, a claim supported by Israel.

During interviews, Vice President Vance indicated that the uranium may be buried beneath the targeted enrichment facilities, emphasizing the U.S.’s aim to prevent Iran from weaponizing the material. He clarified that the U.S. action was directed at Iran’s nuclear program, not its people. While he declined to confirm the extent of the damage to the facilities, he expressed confidence that the strikes significantly hindered Iran’s nuclear weapon development efforts.

Satellite imagery revealed a convoy of trucks outside the Fordow nuclear plant before the strikes, suggesting a possible relocation of the uranium. The U.S. and Israel believe the material was moved to an underground storage facility near Isfahan. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) head Rafael Grossi has urged the resumption of inspections and warned that escalating military action hinders peaceful resolutions and the prevention of nuclear weapon development.

Following US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi has called for a return to diplomatic negotiations to avert further escalation. Speaking to the UN Security Council, Grossi emphasized the urgency of the situation, particularly after the attacks carried out in ‘Operation Midnight Hammer’. He stressed the need for IAEA inspectors to assess the sites at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan and verify Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile. Grossi warned that failure to pursue diplomacy could lead to unprecedented violence and the collapse of the global non-proliferation regime.
