FC Goa’s impressive unbeaten streak in the Indian Super League remained intact after a hard-fought 1-1 draw against a battling 10-man Punjab FC at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Monday. The match showcased grit, skill, and late drama, with both sides claiming a share of the spoils.

From the opening whistle, Punjab asserted control, using their wide players to stretch Goa’s defense. Mohammad Uwais was a constant threat on the left, forcing an early save from Hrithik Tiwari off a header from Dani Ramirez’s corner in the 15th minute.

Punjab’s persistence paid off spectacularly in the 27th minute. Manglenmthang Kipgen’s visionary pass split the Goa defense, allowing Nsungusi Junior Efiong to finish with a sublime left-footed curler into the top corner. The goal sent the stadium into raptures and set the tone for Punjab’s first-half dominance.

As the half wore on, Ramirez unleashed a long-range effort, Efiong shot straight at Tiwari, and Kipgen missed the target. Goa finally threatened in added time, with Sandesh Jhingan’s header drifting wide and Pol Moreno failing to convert.

The second half turned on its head almost immediately. Nsungusi Junior was sent off with a red card just three minutes in, tilting the balance towards Goa. The visitors equalized in the 53rd minute through Dejan Drazic, who rifled home a first-time shot from Brison Fernandes’ pass.

Goa sensed victory and ramped up the pressure. Udanta Singh nodded a corner narrowly over, and Drazic headed wide from a pinpoint cross. Punjab responded through substitute Bede Osuji, who teed up Kipgen, but the shot lacked power.

The final 20 minutes saw Goa dominate, with Arshdeep Singh denying Mohammad Yasir’s header and holding onto late strikes from Rener Fernandes, Drazic, and Brison Fernandes. Punjab’s ten men dug deep, securing a point that keeps them competitive. Drazic earned Player of the Match honors. Goa now has nine points in fourth place; Punjab has five in eighth.
