  • Delhi High Court stern on not wearing masks at election rallies, Center and EC seeks answers

The outbreak of Coronavirus in the country is increasing continuously. In the last 24 hours, 1,26,789 new corona cases have been registered, while 685 patients have lost their lives. At the same time, Delhi High Court has taken cognizance of the Election Campaign between the growing cases of Corona. The High Court has sent a notice to the Center and Election Commission regarding mandatory wearing of masks during election campaign in 4 states including West Bengal and one Union Territory. It has also sought a response from the Center and the Election Commission on a petition seeking to make the mask mandatory during campaigning.

During the hearing, the High Court has asked, why are people appearing without a mask during the election campaign? The petition was filed by Vikram Singh, chairman of the think tank Center for Accountability and Systematic Change, who has been the DGP of Uttar Pradesh Police.

Along with this, the petition has also demanded an order by the Election Commission to spread awareness about the Kovid-19 protocol during the election through digital, print and electronic media. The court has fixed the next hearing in this case on April 30, when it will also hear the main petition of Vikram Singh.
