  • Noida man arrested for sharing girlfriend’s objectionable photos, videos on social media

    NOIDA: A 25-year-old man was arrested here on Wednesday for allegedly sharing on Facebook and Instagram objectionable photos and videos of a college student he was in a relationship with, police said.

    He also threatened to harm the woman when she confronted him, they said.

    The woman, who lives in Bhangel village, informed the police following which an FIR was lodged at the Phase 2 police station on Tuesday, an official said.

    “The woman told the police that she and the accused were in a relationship and he had posted objectionable photos and videos of her on Facebook and Instagram. When confronted by the woman, the accused threatened to harm her,” a police spokesperson said.

    The accused, who works with a private company and stays in the same neighbourhood as the woman, was on the run after the woman complained to the police but was caught near the Sector 82 cut on Wednesday, the official said.

    The FIR has been lodged under Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act, the spokesperson said.

  • Noida traders urge UP CM for fixed electricity charge waiver on lines of Gujarat

    NOIDA: Hit hard by COVID-19, traders from Noida’s Sector 18 market, one of the biggest revenue earners in Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday urged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to waive their fixed electricity charge for a period of one year.

    The Sector 18 market association in a letter to Adityanath cited similar support given to the traders in Gujarat by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

    “As we all know that businesses are running in heavy losses since the first wave of COVID-19 from March 2020. A long lockdown was held in the first phase of the pandemic and now again in the second wave all markets were closed,” Market Association president Sushil Kumar Jain stated in the letter.

    “We from Sector 18 Market Association, Noida request to waive off fixed charge in electricity bills of commercial establishments, traders hotels, resorts, restaurants and water parks affected by the coronavirus pandemic for one year i.e, from April 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022,” he added.

    Jain, also the convenor of the NCR unit of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), said the community has to fix operating losses like electricity, water, rents taxes etc and also have to pay salaries to the staff.

    “We hope that you will waive the fix charges at least to help the traders as already waived by Chief Minister of Gujarat in a sensitive gesture. We hope the same action will be taken by the UP government,” he added.

  • Noida’s special vaccine drive for transgenders, divyang, elderly on June 7

    NOIDA: A special campaign for anti-coronavirus vaccination of transgenders, elderly people living in old-age homes and divyangs (persons with disabilities) residing in Noida and Greater Noida would be held on June 7, officials said on Thursday.

    The vaccination drive would be held at the auditorium of the Vikas Bhawan in Greater Noida, Gautam Buddh Nagar District Social Welfare Officer Shailendra Singh said.

    “The special campaign would be held from 10 am to 4 pm on June 7,” Singh said, adding all transgender community members who wish to get inoculated during the drive should get themselves registered by visiting Vikas Bhawan on June 4 and 5 and meet officials concerned in room 117 there.

    Those wishing to get registered need to take a photocopy of their Aadhar card and carry their mobile phone to avoid any hassle during the procedure, he said.

    For any other clarification over the registration process, the community members may contact social welfare department official Suneel Kumar on 7042563106, he added.

    “Similar special campaigns would be carried out in the future also on instructions of the district magistrate in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus,” Singh said.

  • Private hospitals in UP refund over Rs 5 lakh after ‘overcharging’ Covid patients

    NOIDA: An amount of over Rs 5 lakh was refunded or discounted in final bills to four COVID-19 patients who were “overcharged” by private hospitals in Noida and Greater Noida, the district administration said on Monday.

    The development comes in the wake of the Gautam Buddh Nagar administration’s efforts to provide relief to people overcharged for services by hospitals in the district, adjoining Delhi.

    During his visit to Gautam Buddh Nagar recently, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had also directed directed the administration and health department officials to work towards helping such people, Chief Medical Officer Deepak Ohri said.

    According to officials, amounts of Rs 1,50,000, Rs 28,400, and Rs 31,247 were returned to three patients’ families while a discount of Rs 3,25,000 on the final bill was given to one family.

    “The action was taken based on complaints received from the people.

    If more such complaints are received in the future, the matters would be looked into and action taken accordingly,” Ohri said.

    So far, money has been refunded or discount on final bills has been given in 12 cases of overcharging by private hospitals in the district, according to the officials.

  • 45 out of 85 traffic signals in Noida not working, RTI query finds

    NOIDA: There are 85 traffic signals in Noida of which 45 are not in working condition at present, the Noida Authority has said in response to a query made under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

    Also, maintenance contracts have been made only for 40 traffic lights with two firms at a cost of approximately Rs 62 lakh, it stated.

    The RTI query was made by city-based rights activist Amit Gupta.

    The Noida Authority said it receives inputs about non-functional traffic lights from the Traffic Police and citizens of the city time to time and takes action accordingly.

    “At present there are 85 traffic signals in Noida of which 45 are not working currently,” it stated.

    “The proposal for maintenance of 45 non working traffic signals has been sent for the approval to higher authorities and waiting for the approval,” it added.

  • Noida: Scolded for playing games on mobile, 15-year-old boy jumps to death

    NOIDA: A 15-year-old boy allegedly jumped to death from an under-construction building here after he was scolded by his parents, who had asked him not to play games on mobile phone, police said on Thursday.

    The Class 7 student had gone missing from his home in Sector 110 the under Phase 2 police station limits last night after his parents scolded him, officials said.

    “The boy was peeved over the scolding for playing mobile games and left home around 8 pm. This morning, his body was found from a nearby-under construction building. He had allegedly jumped off the building last night,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Elamaran G said.

    “The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination and the matter is being probed. Forensic experts have also collected evidence from the spot,” the officer said.

    In two other cases, two people allegedly committed suicide in Noida and Greater Noida on Wednesday, police said.

    One of them aged 22 lived in the Sector 49 police station area of Noida, while the other aged 35 lived in the Bisrakh area of Greater Noida, police added.

    Both bodies have been sent for autopsy and further proceedings are being carried out, police said.

  • Send ideas to boost women safety to Noida Police, become ACP for a day

    NOIDA: The Noida Police has invited suggestions from residents on boosting women safety and empowerment, with the one giving the best propositions standing a chance to become assistant commissioner of police for a day, officials said on Thursday.

    Though both men and women can send their suggestions under this initiative, the opportunity of becoming assistant commissioner of police (ACP) will be only open to women, they said.

    Planned in view of International Women’s Day on March 8, under the initiative, “the top three winners will be given cash prizes of Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000, respectively, and the woman with the best entry gets the chance to serve as ACP (women safety) for a day,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Women Safety) Vrinda Shukla said.

    “Not just women, any person in Gautam Buddh Nagar district can recommend practical ideas that can be implemented in the district to boost women safety and women empowerment,” she said.

    Those sending suggestions should clearly mention their name, address and telephone number in their e-mails or Whatsapp messages, the officials said.

  • Wanted man held after encounter in UP’s Greater Noida

    NOIDA: A man, who was allegedly involved in kidnapping a 13-year-old boy recently, was held in Uttar Pradesh’s Greater Noida after a gunfight with the police, officials said on Monday.

    The accused, who was on a motorcycle with an associate, suffered a gunshot injury on his leg. The incident took place late Sunday night in Dankaur area, officials said.

    “Accused Intezaar and his associate were on a motorcycle when they were intercepted by the Dankaur police for checking.

    The duo instead sped away and was chased by a police party, leading to a gunfight between them,” Greater Noida Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishal Pandey said.

    “Intezaar got injured in the counter firing by the police while his associate managed to escape in the darkness. Intezaar has been hospitalised,” Pandey said.

    He said the arrested person was wanted by the police for his involvement in the kidnapping of a 13-year-old boy recently.

    The boy was safely rescued after police intervention but the kidnappers had managed to escape, he added.

    “Over a dozen police teams were formed and were working on this kidnapping case while Intezaar was one of the suspects,” Pandey said.

    A fresh FIR is being registered in the case and further proceedings will be done accordingly, while a search has been launched to nab the absconding associate, the official said.

  • Noida: Two juveniles held for sodomising, killing 10-year-old boy

    NOIDA: Two juveniles have been apprehended for allegedly sodomising and killing a 10-year-old boy after kidnapping him from near his home in Noida four months ago, police said on Wednesday.

    “The juveniles in conflict with the law have been apprehended and will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board,” Noida Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh S said.

    According to police, the boy was playing outside his home when the two minors from his neighbourhood took him to an under-construction building and sodomised him on October 10.

    The boy had told the duo that he would tell his parents about the incident after which the accused strangled him to death with a rope.

    Later, they hid his body under raw construction material, covering it with some plastic sheets and bricks, and left the building, according to officials.

    An FIR for “missing person” was registered at the Sector 49 police station the next day and a search launched to trace him.

    The boy’s body was recovered from the under-construction building almost a week later, they said.

    The FIR has been modified to add charges of sodomy and murder against the two juveniles, the police said.

    DCP Rajesh said the Sector 49 police station team has been awarded Rs 25,000 for cracking the “blind” case.

  • Woman’s death: Five doctors of Noida hospital booked for laxity

    NOIDA: Five doctors of a private hospital in Noida have been booked for alleged laxity that led to the death of a woman shortly after she gave birth to a girl, officials said on Thursday.

    The child had taken birth at the private hospital in Sector 51 in April 2020 but the mother was referred to another hospital by the doctors after her condition deteriorated post-delivery, the officials said.

    The child’s father, a local resident, had alleged negligence by the hospital and moved court, which had directed that an FIR be lodged in the case and the matter probed, they said.

    “The FIR was lodged at the Sector 39 police station in Noida on Wednesday. The deceased’s husband has alleged laxity by the city-based hospital,” Noida Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Ranvijay Singh said.

    “An investigation has been launched and technical experts are being consulted. Further action will be taken based on the evidence,” Singh added.
