  • Ben Schwartz on board monster film Renfield

    Actor Ben Schwartz has joined the cast of the upcoming monster film Renfield. The actor joins the previously announced cast that includes Nicholas Hoult, Nicolas Cage, and Awkwafina.

    Renfield is a character that debuted in Bram Stoker’s original Dracula novel. In that story, Renfield was an inmate at an asylum who was thought to be suffering from delusions that compelled him to eat live creatures in the hopes of obtaining immortality, but in fact, was a servant of the popular vampire.

    Hault is set to portray the titular character, while Cage will play Dracula. Details of Awkwafina’s character is currently kept under wraps. Renfield has a script written by Ryan Ridley (Rick and Morty) and is based on an original story written by Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead).

    The plotline, release date and other details of the cast are yet unknown. Filmmaker Chris McKay, who is well-known for directing The Tomorrow War and The Lego Batman Movie, is also producing Renfield.

    The film will be produced by Skybound Entertainment’s film team, including Kirkman, David Alpert, Bryan Furst and Sean Furst. McKay’s producing partner Samantha Nisenboim will serve as an executive producer. Renfield is a Universal Pictures film. 

  • Nicholas Hoult to lead Universal’s Dracula spinoff ‘Renfield’

    LOS ANGELES: Actor Nicholas Hoult will headline the film about classic monster Dracula’s henchman R M Renfield.

    According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film, titled “Renfield”, is based around the character who was a prominent figure in author Bram Stoker’s cult classic 1897 novel.

    In the book, Renfield was a patient in an asylum with an obsession for drinking blood, deluded into thinking he will find immortality.

    He bows at the feet of the vampire king, who feeds him insects and rats and dangles everlasting life in front of him.

    “The Tomorrow War” director Chris McKay is directing the feature film which is based on an original story outline from Robert Kirkman, the creator of “The Walking Dead”.

    Ryan Ridley has penned the script.

    The film, set up at Universal Pictures, will be produced by Skybound Entertainment’s Kirkman, David Alpert, Bryan Furst and Sean Furst.

    Hoult most recently featured in Angelina Jolie-led Warner Bros movie “Those Who Wish Me Dead”.

    He is currently awaiting the release of season two of his Hulu comedy “The Great”.

    The actor will also star in Searchlight Pictures’ “The Menu”.

  • Nicholas Hoult joins Mark Mylod’s dark comedy ‘The Menu’

    We had earlier reported that a dark comedy titled The Menu is in development at Searchlight Pictures, with Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Fiennes and Hong Chau on board.

    The project has now added actor Nicholas Hoult to its cast.  Mark Mylod, known for his work on shows such as Game of Thrones and Succession, will direct the film.

    The script of the film has been penned by Will Tracy and Seth Reiss. Said to be a psychological thriller with a liberal dose of dark comedy, the film is set in the world of unusual culinary culture.

    The Menu revolves around a young couple who visit an exclusive restaurant on a remote island where a famous chef has prepared a grand tasting menu. Taylor-Joy will play one half of the couple, while Fiennes will play the chef.

    Oscar-nominated filmmaker Adam McKay will produce the film under his Hyperobject Industries banner along with Betsy Koch. Hoult next will be seen starring in season 2 of the comedy series, The Great. Hoult was most recently seen in Taylor Sheridan’s Those Who Wish Me Dead, alongside Angelina Jolie. His other film and TV credits include The Favourite, the X-Men franchise and Mad Max: Fury Road, among others.
