Madhya Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda reaffirmed the state’s dedication to overcoming doctor shortages through widespread medical education reforms during a speech at Mandsaur’s Indira Gandhi District Hospital on Friday. The initiative targets strengthening healthcare foundations to deliver superior medical care statewide.

Devda pointed out the persistent challenge of doctor scarcity in rural and semi-urban regions, where access to quality treatment is often limited. ‘Our government is relentlessly working to fortify health facilities and incrementally bridge the gap by establishing additional medical colleges,’ he remarked.

A key plan involves setting up at least one medical college per district, encouraging in-state education and subsequent service in local hospitals. This approach promises improved doctor availability and prompt medical attention for citizens.

The state currently operates 21 government medical colleges, with AIIMS Bhopal as a flagship institution. Expansions continue, with fresh setups in Sheopur and Singrauli, and PPP collaborations on the horizon for faster progress.

Upgrading district hospitals in areas like Dhar, Betul, Panna, and Katni forms the next phase. At the function, Devda unveiled a Rs 7.50 crore 100-bed general ward and a Rs 17.29 crore MCH facility with 100 beds. Additionally, he initiated the Rs 4.73 crore Chandkhedi Phanta-Khajuriya road construction.

These upgrades will revolutionize care for mothers and children, reducing pressure on major medical centers. Minister Rakesh Singh stressed that robust health infrastructure is vital for community welfare, with the new MCH block set to make a tangible difference.

As Madhya Pradesh marches towards healthcare self-sufficiency, these steps mark a pivotal shift in addressing long-standing medical workforce deficits.
