  • Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton may collaborate for Netflix project

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Despite rumours of the royal tension, sister-in-laws Duchess of Sussex- Meghan Markle and Duchess of Cambridge- Kate Middleton could soon collaborate on a Netflix project, in which Meghan could highlight Kate’s charity work.

“Meghan and Kate are actually getting along really well and have been in touch more often. Meghan has been talking to her about collaborating on a project for Netflix, a documentary that will spotlight Kate’s charity work and the huge impact she’s made with her philanthropy,” a source revealed to US Weekly.

“Kate is very flattered, and it’s all very positive between them,” the insider added.

However, according to Page Six, sources close to the royal family have denied the report.

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have signed a multi-year deal with Netflix last fall, with intentions to develop, “documentaries, docu-series, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programming.”

Reportedly, their first project will centre “on the Invictus Games, which gives sick and injured military personnel and veterans the opportunity to compete in sports.”

The duo will also produce a family drama animated series about a 12-year-old girl’s adventures, tentatively titled “Pearl,” reported Page Six.

For the unversed, the 40-year-old Duchess of Sussex claimed in her bombshell March interview with Oprah Winfrey that the media is to blame for “inventing stories to fuel a faux sisterly feud” between herself and Kate.

On the other hand, Kate’s uncle Gary Goldsmith countered Meghan’s statement by saying, “If anyone can bring peace to the royals, Kate can. Kate is a brilliant arbiter and peacemaker. Every bone in her body is about making friends and doing the best she can … She’s trying to mediate.”

Meghan and Harry have been detangling their lives from the British royal family and are currently residing in California with their two children- Archie and newborn Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

On a related note, Meghan Markle recently celebrated her 40th birthday and the royal members including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton took to their official Twitter handles, to share mesmerising pictures of the duchess and sent their best wishes on her big day.

  • Court restrains streaming of Netflix documentary based on death of student in Gurugram school in 2017

    By PTI

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has restrained Netflix and Channel News Asia (CNA) from streaming, broadcasting and telecasting a documentary ‘A big Little Murder’, based on the alleged killing of a 7-year-old student in a Gurugram school in 2017, unless all references to the school are deleted.

Justice Jayant Nath, who was hearing a plea by the school’s trust, said that the documentary, in its original form, violated a court order on the protection of privacy and the reputation of the parties involved in the case.

“The defendants (Netflix, CNA, the filmmaker and unknown parties) are restrained from streaming, broadcasting, telecasting etc. the documentary titled “A big Little Murder” or any of its abridged versions.

“I may clarify that the defendants may stream the said documentary after deleting all references to the plaintiff school in question and deleting the portion where the building of the school is depicted”, ordered the judge in his order passed on August 10.

The court passed the ex-parte order after opining that the school’s trust made out a prima facie case in its favour.

The trust, represented by senior counsel Rajiv Virmani and Karanjawala & Co’s Senior Partner- Sandeep Kapur informed the court that the documentary was available for viewers on the website of CNA and on the platform of Netflix since earlier this month.

It was submitted that while the case is presently pending before a sessions court in Gurugram, which has passed an order directing parties to the proceedings as well as the public at large to not use the real names of the parties in the case, the name of the school and its visuals have been used elaborately and frequently in the documentary without any permission.

A class 2 student was found with his throat slit in the washroom of a school in Gurugram in September 2017.

Investigation in the case was transferred from Haryana police to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The matter would be heard next on October 10.

  • ‘Sima Taparia from Mumbai’ to return: Netflix bringing back Emmy-nominated ‘Indian Matchmaking’

    By ANI

MUMBAI: Streaming service Netflix has renewed the Emmy-nominated show ‘Indian Matchmaking’ for a second season. Matchmaker Sima Taparia, who rose to fame with the series’ first season, will return to help people find their perfect matches.

‘Indian Matchmaking’ sparked many controversies after its debut. Meanwhile, Sima secured a nomination at the 73rd Emmy Awards under the ‘Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program’ category.

The Netflix show’s first season offered an inside look at the custom of matchmaking in Indian cultures through a contemporary lens.

The 8-episode series based on arrange marriages had a huge ensemble of interesting personalities, starting with everyone’s favourite Sima. The famous line from the show, “Hello, I am Sima Taparia from Mumbai,” had gone viral on social media ever since the show had released.

While people found the show a little regressive, it shed light on the bitter reality which is quite prevalent across India. It is hard to believe that the reality series was not designed as a comedy, with the awkward pauses, choice of music and some of the dialogues that might leave you in splits.

The idea of matching ‘kundlis,’ finding a girl who has ‘fair skin’ and a ‘good height’ or is ‘flexible’ in nature, and the matchmaker’s famous advice – ‘you will have to compromise’, makes up for most of the show.

The series is produced by Industrial Media’s The Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC), LLC. Executive producers are Aaron Saidman, Eli Holzman, Smriti Mundhra, and J.C. Begley, as per Variety.

The rest of the details regarding the second season of ‘Indian Matchmaking’ have been kept under wraps.

Netflix is also bringing back two other shows: ‘The Circle’ and ‘The American Barbecue Showdown’, according to Variety. The US version of ‘The Circle’ will return for seasons 4 and 5, and will be hosted by Michelle Buteau.

‘The American Barbecue Showdown’, a competition to crown America’s ‘Barbecue Champion’, returns for season 2.

Gyllenhaal has adapted the screenplay and also produced the feature film with Talia Kleinhendler and Osnat Handelsman-Keren for Pie Films, Charles Dorfman for Samuel Marshall Films and Endeavor Content.

Gyllenhaal, who previously featured in “The Kindergarten Teacher” for Netflix, said she is excited to work with the streamer again.

  • Netflix’s ‘Bridgerton’ season 2 resumes shooting after COVID-19 shutdown

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Shooting for the second season of the hit Netflix series ‘Bridgerton’ has resumed after two abrupt halts due to COVID-19 cases on the sets of the show.

Showrunner Chris Van Dusen confirmed the news to Variety.

“We are back underway. We had to delay because of COVID, but we’re back in it,” said the showrunner, who is currently shuttling back and forth between Los Angeles and the London-based set.

“Right now I’m in post, editing our first couple episodes, which are looking great,” the showrunner added.

The romantic period drama was shut down indefinitely in mid-July following a second confirmed case. At the time, Netflix declined to comment on whether the two cases were among members of the cast or crew but confirmed that both persons went into isolation.

‘Bridgerton’ was one of the several high-profile projects shooting in the UK to be struck by the virus in the last few weeks. ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel series ‘House of the Dragon’ being another notable victim.

News of the resumption will come as a sigh of relief to the ‘Bridgerton’ fans who were beginning to wonder whether they might have to wait a little longer than expected for the return of the ‘Bridgerton’ clan’s marital antics.

The upcoming season of the show, based on the second novel in Julia Quinn’s series, is set to focus on the family’s eldest son Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and his quest to find a suitable partner.

“We pick up Anthony after we’ve seen what he’s been through with his mistress. He’s thinking, ‘Was that love?’ Some would call it that, others would not. We’re exploring those concepts of duty and honour once again,” teased Van Dusen.

After breaking Netflix viewership records, the pressure on Van Dusen, who is passing the showrunner baton on to Jess Brownell for seasons three and four, and the folks behind the Shondaland show to deliver another stellar season is mounting. However, Van Dusen welcomed the extra scrutiny.

“There’s always been a pressure with this show from the beginning, being inspired by these beloved novels with fans who are so passionate and feel so strongly about these characters and these stories,” he said.

He added, “There’s always been a healthy pressure there, I welcome it and I say keep the pressure on. It worked for the first season, and I hope people love this season and beyond as much as they did the first.”

The first season was a breakout hit, becoming Netflix’s most-viewed series ever, and also scored 12 Emmy nominations last month, including Outstanding Drama Series and Best Actor in a Drama Series for Rege-Jean Page.

Based on Julia Quinn’s best-selling series of novels, ‘Bridgerton’ is set in the lavish and competitive world of London high society during the Regency period of the early 1800s.

The Netflix series has already been renewed through season four, so there’s plenty of your period soapy obsession to come. But because each season will be inspired by a different book in the series, that means the focus on each Bridgerton child will change.

The first season of the romantic period drama focused on the steamy courtship between Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings (Rege-Jean Page).

The first season of ‘Bridgerton’ is available to watch on Netflix.
