Eiichiro Oda, artist and original creator of One Piece, revealed that season 2 will include fan favourite characters like Tony Tony Chopper, the doctor of the Straw Hats pirate crew.

In the animated series, Chopper works under the tutelage of an old woman by the name of Dr Kureha. Interestingly, actor Jamie Lee Curtis, best known for appearing in Halloweed and Glass Onion, has expressed interest in joining the cast of One Piece as Doctor Kureha.

  • Netflix’s ‘Full Swing’ won’t be getting full access to the Ryder Cup team rooms

    By Associated Press

The Netflix golf documentary series “Full Swing” won’t have full access at the Ryder Cup.

US captain Zach Johnson says he spoke to all 12 players on his team when concerns were raised about a film crew in the team rooms, and they unanimously decided to keep certain areas off-limits.

“Netflix is going to be there,” said Seth Waugh, CEO of the PGA of America. “I would say all things involving the team we leave to the team and the captain. I think there’s a sanctity to the team room, and the experience is important to them. It’s part of being a team, right? Netflix has been great for the game. They’re doing great things. The team collectively decided there are areas of privacy that need to be respected.”

Netflix is in production for its second season of the series that has been popular with golf fans and even those who didn’t pay much attention to the sport. Nielsen Media Research analysis in US markets showed 60% of viewers are between the ages of 25 and 54, and 63% of viewers watched the PGA Tour in the two months following the series’ debut.

The Ryder Cup, which starts the week of Sept. 25 outside Rome, presumably would be a big part of the upcoming season of “Full Swing.”

But there were enough concerns from a few players about letting Netflix into the team room at Marco Simone that Johnson polled his players and they chose to keep the team room private.

“It was one of those where we all gathered, I talked to every individual and laid out scenarios,” Johnson said in a telephone interview. “And they all felt like it was best to navigate that week of the tournament in a manner which the sanctity and sacredness of Team USA is preserved. We’re eliminating scenarios.”

A Netflix spokesperson declined to comment. Netflix typically does not discuss potential content for a series currently in production.

Stefan Schauffele, the father of Xander Schauffele, said he first was aware of the Netflix presence when he received a player participation and benefits agreement in July, a month before Ryder Cup qualifying had ended.

“Apart from the fact the guys don’t get paid, you cannot make a deal with a third party that we are not a party to for rights into eternity,” said Stefan Schauffele, who said his son did not sign the agreement without changes to the language.

The Americans and Europeans have a team room at the golf course and at the host hotel for the Ryder Cup that historically are off limits to the media and other VIPs not directly involved in the matches.

Netflix has had extensive access to the players it has profiled from the “Full Swing” series, at their homes and during travel to tournaments. The first season was shot during 2022 as golf was torn apart by defections to LIV Golf.

The PGA Tour released results of a general population survey that showed 42% of those who watched at least some of the Netflix series spent more time watching golf on TV, and 36% spent more time engaging with pro golf on social media.

Justin Thomas, another captain’s pick who has taken part in the Netflix series, said it was an easy decision for Johnson to eliminate any source of distraction.

“I just think there was maybe a couple of people a little sceptical, and it really was not even a conversation,” Thomas said. “We’re all a team this week. All 12 were on board, so it doesn’t really matter.”

  • Netflix releases trailer of docu-series ‘Who Killed Jill Dando’

    By Express News Service

Netflix released the trailer of its upcoming docu-series Who Killed Jill Dando on social media on Monday. The series is set to premiere on September 26 and will focus on the life and death of Jill Dando, a UK TV host who was killed in 1999.

Jill was shot dead outside her residence in London, leading up to one of the most talked about investigations in British history. • Netflix finally finds a manga hit with ‘One Piece’

    By AFP

PARIS: Netflix has spent years trying to adapt Japanese manga and anime into live-action TV with little success, but its latest effort, “One Piece”, may finally have cracked the code.

The US streaming giant’s latest show, based on the most famous manga comic of them all, was watched more than 18 million times in its first four days, putting it at the top of the charts.

The story of Monkey D Luffy, a boy with a straw hat and stretchy superpowers determined to become king of all pirates by finding a treasure known as One Piece, has captivated manga fans since its first editions in 1997.

And it should have been a shoo-in for TV success, having already been widely adapted for the screen in a series of animated movies.

But manga fans feared the worst before the Netflix live-action version hit the screens in late August.

The American giant has tried and failed with other beloved Japanese manga and anime.

Its “Fullmetal Alchemist” and “Death Note” failed to convince in 2017 and 2021’s “Cowboy Bebop” was ditched after one season, crumbling under the weight of bad reviews.

With One Piece, Netflix cannily sought to keep fans onside by holding on to the most valuable commodity: the comic’s author, Eiichiro Oda.

    ‘Guard dog’

Oda is tightly bound to the comic, having written all the editions for its entire run — a world record — and was brought on as series supervisor by Netflix.

He was well aware of the challenge.

“Various manga had been made into live action, but there was a history of failure,” he told the New York Times in a rare interview published in late August.

“No one in Japan could name a successful example.”

He told the paper that Netflix agreed to give him final approval.

“I read the scripts, gave notes and acted as a guard dog to ensure the material was being adapted in the correct way,” he said.

Reviews have been broadly positive, with Charles Pulliam-Moore writing on The Verge website the series “gets all of the important things right”.

He wrote that the series, with a budget of more than $100 million, had put huge efforts into re-creating Oda’s vision in its production design and populating its scenes with a cast of whimsical background characters.

This effort, he wrote, meant the series “is able to feel like a living, breathing place with a history that you can step into”.

And that history still has much left to be told — the first run of eight episodes covers only the first 12 volumes of a comic that now boasts roughly 100.
