  • Netflix’s action horror series ‘Resident Evil’ will not return for season two

    By PTI

LOS ANGELES: “Resident Evil”, the Netflix action horror series loosely based on the popular video game franchise, will not return for a second season.

The development comes a month and a half after the show premiered on July 14.

According to the entertainment website Deadline, the decision to pull the plug on the series was not a bolt from the blue as it did not have a particularly impressive showing on the streamer’s Top 10 trending list.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world in the year 2036, “Resident Evil” follows Jade Wesker (played by Ella Balinska) who fights for survival in a world overrun by blood-thirsty infected and insane creatures.

She is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling connections to the Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.

Lance Reddick, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph and Paola Nunez with additional cast members Ahad Raza Mir, Connor Gosatti and Turlough Convery also starred in the show.

Showrunner Andrew Dabb executive produced and wrote “Resident Evil” with Mary Leah Sutton.

Robert Kulzer and Oliver Berben of Constantin Film also served as executive producers on the series.

  • Will Smith’s biopic back in development post Oscars slap

    By Express News Service

Actor Will Smith’s biopic is reportedly back in the pipeline. Netflix, which had suspended talks over a film on the actor’s life following the Oscar slap controversy, is reportedly planning to resume the negotiation.

A source told The Sun that in the wake of the Oscar issue, Will was left out in the cold by the streaming platforms Netflix and Apple TV+.

“He has since apologised and stepped out of the spotlight for a lengthy period. With this in mind, it is broadly agreed enough time has passed to let the dust settle. It has been made clear that discussions can be started again about a biopic which Netflix were interested in,” the source added. According to Aceshowbiz. com, the slapping issue and the fallout will be part of the biopic’s storyline.

Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock at this year’s Oscars for comparing his 50-year-old wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaven head to GI Jane’s buzzcut. He stormed the stage to slap Chris before tearfully picking up the best actor award for his role in King Richard, which is about the father of tennis icons Serena Williams and Venus Williams. He then issued an apology via video online last month and said he was “deeply remorseful.

  • Netflix sues ‘The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical’ creators for infringement

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: The team behind an unofficial ‘Bridgerton’ musical has been sued for infringement by Netflix in a Washington, DC US District Court.

According to Variety, Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, the signwriting team behind the project, initially developed the musical on social media.

The duo went on to score the No. 1 slot on iTunes US pop charts and even won a Grammy this year in the category of best musical theatre album.

Netflix has alleged that it made “repeated objections” against the team as they planned to mount a live stage show of the project.

‘The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical Album Live in Concert’ performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC earlier this week, selling out the venue with ticket prices that ranged up to USD 149.

The stage show reportedly featured more than a dozen songs that involved exactly copied dialogue, character traits, expression and other elements from ‘Bridgerton’.

The streamer alleges that ‘The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical Album Live in Concert’ misrepresented to audiences that it used the ‘Bridgerton’ trademark “with permission.” Netflix also objects to an allegedly planned line of merchandise and the production’s upcoming tour dates.

“Netflix supports fan-generated content, but Barlow & Bear have taken this many steps further, seeking to create multiple revenue streams for themselves without formal permission to utilize the ‘Bridgerton’ IP,” Netflix wrote in a statement.

As per Variety, they added, “We’ve tried hard to work with Barlow & Bear, and they have refused to cooperate. The creators, cast, writers and crew have poured their hearts and souls into ‘Bridgerton’ and we’re taking action to protect their rights.”

Earlier, in her conversation with EW, Barlow credited the pandemic for giving them the room to build their following online. “I feel like a few years ago, Netflix probably would’ve sent us a cease-and-desist for what we’re doing, but I think in a time like this, it is so important to have a creative outlet,” she said.
