Amritsar’s Chheharta police station turned the tide against smuggling on February 12 with a daring raid that shattered a sophisticated drug racket spanning international borders. Officers nabbed two smugglers in possession of 7 kilograms and 630 grams of high-purity heroin, alongside Rs 21,800 in illicit cash proceeds.

This NDPS case exposes a web of virtual communications linking the accused to a shadowy Dubai handler who funneled consignments over the frontier. The kingpin not only supplied the drugs but also micromanaged distribution logistics, with ties to a notorious 43-kg heroin seizure earlier.

Punjab Police’s official social media update highlighted the triumph, underscoring their unyielding drive to dismantle narco-terror outfits and foster a narcotic-free state. As part of the broader anti-drug offensive, such strikes have intensified, yielding consistent successes.

Community leaders and residents voiced strong support, emphasizing how these interventions protect vulnerable young lives from substance abuse. Interrogations are intensifying to unravel the full syndicate, with raids planned to capture accomplices.

Authorities are calling on the public for vigilance and tips on trafficking hotspots. With evidence mounting, prosecutors are gearing up for airtight charges, signaling zero tolerance for such criminal enterprises threatening Punjab’s future.

In a landmark development, the United States convened the first-ever US-India Drug Policy Executive Working Group in Washington from January 20-21. India’s Foreign Ministry announced the event, focusing on strategies to address transnational drug challenges and foster secure futures through unwavering bilateral pledges.

The meeting kicked off with remarks from ONDCP Director Sarah Carter, who invoked the anti-narco-terrorism commitments of Presidents Trump and PM Modi. ‘The drug crisis demands urgent national security focus,’ Carter declared, positioning the group as a vital platform for family protection and industry support.

Ambassador Vinay Kwatra represented India, reiterating priorities on curbing narcotics smuggling and chemical misuse while harmonizing enforcement with lawful commerce. Co-chaired by ONDCP’s Debbie Seguin and NCB’s Monika Ashish Batra, the delegations achieved tangible progress in counter-narcotics synergy.

Key discussions revolved around integrated governmental strategies to enhance inter-agency coordination, safeguard drug supply chains, and replicate successes from recent collaborative busts on illicit networks. This builds on deepening US-India security bonds, including counter-terrorism and law enforcement, where anti-drug efforts play a crucial role amid borderless trafficking operations.

As drug threats evolve, this executive forum sets the stage for ongoing, impactful cooperation, potentially reshaping regional and global responses to one of humanity’s most pressing public health battles.

A leading American legal authority has thrown his weight behind the US operation that nabbed Nicolas Maduro, calling it textbook constitutional action with ironclad defenses against courtroom attacks. Michael O’Neil,…

A leading American legal authority has thrown his weight behind the US operation that nabbed Nicolas Maduro, calling it textbook constitutional action with ironclad defenses against courtroom attacks.

Michael O’Neil, in an in-depth exchange, explained why viewing Maduro as a sitting president misses the mark. Washington sees him as a indicted kingpin of Cartel de los Soles, accused since 2020 of spearheading massive drug smuggling and terror ties that hit US shores hard. Federal prosecutors in New York’s Southern District are gearing up for his trial, backed by unanimous US policy across administrations.

Constitutionally, presidents wield Article II powers to enforce laws rigorously. Post-indictment, arrest becomes mandatory. O’Neil pointed to historical parallels, like Noriega’s 1989 takedown and subsequent upheld sentencing, proving courts honor executive foreign policy calls on leader legitimacy.

Head immunity arguments? Unlikely to fly without proven recognition, which Maduro lacks. Judges typically side with government stances here. Military aid in the raid? Justified for protection amid dangers. Looking ahead, expect a marathon legal battle: pretrial motions, full trial, appeals spanning years. Yet O’Neil is clear—the core issue is applying US criminal law to a serious offender, where the government’s case shines.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has taken decisive action, terminating the services of two government employees accused of deep ties to terrorism and involvement in anti-national activities. This move, executed under Article 311(2)(c) of the Indian Constitution, allows for the dismissal of individuals posing a threat to state security without a formal inquiry, underscoring the administration’s firm stance against terrorism. The terminated employees are Ghulam Hussain, a teacher from Reasi district, alleged to have operated as an Over Ground Worker for Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), facilitating recruitment and financial support for terrorist operations. Also dismissed is Majid Iqbal Dar, a former Lab Assistant and teacher, implicated in narco-terrorism, youth radicalization, and funding terror activities through illicit drug trade. Dar’s alleged involvement extended to Improvised Explosive Device (IED) plots in Rajouri and ongoing subversive actions even while in detention. These dismissals are a critical component of Jammu and Kashmir’s comprehensive strategy to eradicate the terror ecosystem and ensure regional stability.

In a significant operation, the counter-intelligence unit of Amritsar police dismantled a cross-border heroin smuggling network with ties to Pakistan. The operation, conducted near the Indo-Pak border in Attari, resulted in the seizure of 4 kg of heroin. The investigation revealed that the suspects were intercepted while transporting the heroin consignment. Further investigation is underway to trace the complete network and its connections. The Amritsar Police Commissionerate had previously taken down a sophisticated, multi-layered heroin trafficking operation linked to Pakistan. Key accused Sarbjit aka Joban, who was in contact with a known smuggler across the border, was arrested along with a juvenile, and 1 kg of heroin was recovered. Two additional smugglers, Dharam Singh and Kulbir Singh, were also arrested earlier, with a seizure of 5 kg of heroin. A total of 6.106 kg of heroin was recovered, along with two motorcycles. The First Information Report was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
