In a display of robust defense partnership, the India-Uzbekistan joint military drill ‘Dustlik-2024’ drew to a close in Uzbekistan’s Namangan region. The event wrapped up with an intense 48-hour final exercise and a formal closing ceremony at Gurumsarai Field Training Area, reinforcing the growing military alliance between the two nations.

The Ministry of Defence reported that the week-long exercise honed the ability of both armies to operate cohesively, with a special emphasis on eliminating terrorist threats and armed insurgents in rugged terrains. Indian Army’s ADGPI noted the invaluable exchange of counter-terrorism strategies, which promises to elevate joint operational effectiveness.

As an annual fixture, Dustlik rotates hosting duties; the 2023 version was in Pune, India. Participating from India were 60 elite troops—45 from the Mahar Regiment and 15 Indian Air Force personnel—mirroring Uzbekistan’s 60-strong team from its army and air force.

Key focus areas included enhancing fitness levels, collaborative mission planning, realistic tactical maneuvers, and proficiency with advanced weaponry. The drill bridged gaps in command structures, ensuring smoother execution of multinational operations ahead.

Troops from both sides delved into each other’s doctrines, sharing real-world experiences that built tactical acumen and interoperability. Beyond skills, the exercise nurtured personal bonds, boosting confidence and friendship that extend to diplomatic ties.

The capstone event validated comprehensive plans against simulated insurgent threats, showcasing precision and unity. Dustlik’s triumph signals deeper strategic alignment, vital for addressing shared security challenges in Central Asia and beyond.
