  • Himanta Sarma, Sarbananda Sonowal to meet Nadda today, decision on CM likely

    Almost a week after winning the Assam Assembly polls, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to decide on the name of its Chief Ministerial nominee today in a crucial meeting called by the central leadership of the party.

    Party sources stated that incumbent Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Assam strongman and minister in his cabinet Himanta Biswa Sarma have been summoned to the national capital to decide the leadership issue in the state and will meet party national president Jagat Prakash Nadda before noon.

    The BJP has stormed back to power in the crucial Northeastern state retaining its hold on the government.

    However, it is understood that the party has been facing issues over selection of Chief Minister.

    Sonowal is considered a leader with clean image and belongs to Assam’s indigenous tribal community.

    However, a section of the party feels that Himanta would be a better choice considering his strong organizational skills and appeal with the masses.

    Sources stated that the party is expected to make an announcement on the new CM of the state soon after customary meeting of the party’s parliamentary board.

    BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a comfortable majority in Assam winning 75 seats of the total 126 constituencies. While BJP secured 60 seats, about 33 its allies Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People’s Party, Liberal (UPPL) bagged nine and six seats respectively.

    NEW DELHI: BJP President JP Nadda and Union Minister Piyush Goyal paid tributes to social reformer and educationalist Savitribai Phule on her birth anniversary for became an inspiration for women’s education.

    “Tributes to ‘Krantijyoti’ Savitribai Phule on her birth anniversary, the inspiration for women education, the first teacher of modern India. Your distinguished contribution to the eradication of social evils and women empowerment is exemplary,” Nadda tweeted (roughly translated from Hindi).

    Union Minister Piyush Goyal also paid tributes to Phule for dedicating her life for women empowerment and education.

    “My tributes to Savitribai Phule on her birth anniversary, who struggled for women’s empowerment, self-reliance, and education, and dedicated her life for it. Her efforts for the upliftment of women brought about a change in the attitude of the society and also brought awareness in the society,” Goyal tweeted.

    Phule was a social reformer, educationalist, and poet from Maharashtra.

    As per the official website of the BJP, Nadda, who originally hails from Himachal Pradesh, was born on 2 December 1960 in Patna, Bihar.

    After completing his BA from Patna University, he studied LL.B from Himachal Pradesh University. He actively participated in various movements run by Jai Prakash Narayan during his young age.

    In June 2019, Nadda was elected the National Working President of the BJP and in January 2020, the National President of the party.

  • Amit Shah and JP Nadda to visit Bengal every month till elections

    Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) West Bengal unit president Dilip Ghosh has said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party’s national president JP Nadda will visit the state every month till the end of assembly elections in the state. Elections for the 294-member assembly of West Bengal are to be held in April-May of the year 2021.

    Mr. Ghosh said that both the top leaders of BJP will visit different states every month before the assembly elections in the state to take stock of the party organization. Mr. Ghosh told reporters, “Amit Shah and JP Nadda will come separately every month till the end of the assembly elections. The dates are yet to be finalized. Their regular visits will increase the enthusiasm of the party workers.

    ‘Party sources said that Amit Shah is likely to visit two consecutive days every month, while JP Nadda’s visit will be for three days. Lashing out at the Congress-CPI-M alliance, Dilip Ghosh said that people have rejected both the parties long ago.
