  • Kerala news: Kerala leader triggers controversy, calls for “separate Malabar” state; BJP hits back

Sunni Yuvajana Sangam (SYS) leader Mustafa Mundupara has stirred a fresh controversy in Kerala after he advocated the idea of a “separate Malabar state”.

Speaking at a protest organised on the issue of lack of seats in class 11 in the Malabar region on Monday, Mundupara said that Southern Kerala and Malabar people are paying the same taxes and should get the same facilities.

“When we see this injustice like southern Kerala and Malabar, if there is demand from any part that there needs to be a separate Malabar state, we can’t blame them. If the people of Malabar are paying the same tax as that of southern Kerala, we should get the same facilities here. There is no point in saying it is separatism. What will happen in the country if there is a Malabar state,” he said.Meanwhile, the BJP hit back at Mundupara over his remarks and said that the party will fight any move to divide Kerala.

Kerala BJP chief, K Surendran said, “Anyone who believes that the banning of the Popular Front has eradicated extremist forces in Kerala is gravely mistaken. The audacity of SYS leader Mustafa Mundupara in demanding the division of Kerala, coupled with the silence of Pinarayi Vijayan and vdsatheesan, starkly reveals the harsh truth: The Congress and Communist parties in Kerala are on their knees, shamelessly compromising national integrity for votes.”

“These political entities are the biggest obstacles to PM Narendra Modi Ji’s unwavering mission to eliminate separatist forces from our nation. The BJP will fight tooth and nail against any move to divide Kerala,” he added.Student organisations of the Congress Party, KSU and Muslim League are demanding more seats for class 11 in the Malabar region. The Malabar region comprises of districts Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasargod.

  • Supreme Court To Hear Muslim League’s Plea Demanding Stay On CAA Rules Today |

The Supreme Court is set to review several pleas on Tuesday requesting the government to suspend the enforcement of the 2024 Citizenship Amendment Rules. The stay is demanded until the court has resolved the challenges to the constitutionality of the 2019 Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The bench announced its intention to schedule all applications requesting a suspension of the Rules for a hearing on Tuesday. Additionally, the highest court mentioned that the entire set of 237 petitions will be included in the list alongside the most recent applications.

The early hearing was warranted after Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) argued that once migrant Hindus are granted Indian citizenship, it cannot be revoked, thus suggesting the need for an expedited hearing. A panel consisting of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra have acknowledged the arguments by Sibal.

Apart from IUML, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Debabrata Saika, the Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Assembly, Abdul Khaleque, a Congress MP from Assam, and various others have also submitted applications requesting a suspension of the Rules.

‘Muslim Community Deprived Of CAA Benefits’

One day after the government released the regulations under the CAA, the Kerala-based political party IUML filed a petition in the Supreme Court, requesting a stay to the enforcement of these regulations. The IUML urged for a suspension of the contested law and regulations, arguing that no punitive measures should be taken against members of the Muslim community who have been excluded from the benefits of this legislation, reported ANI.

PK Kunhalikutty, a leader of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), expressed solidarity with the Kerala government’s stance of abstaining from enforcing CAA. “Why should they implement a law that has not been welcomed by anyone in India? What is the need? Why are they taking a partisan stand in the matter of citizenship? ” Kunhalikutty told agency.

    Kerala Government’s Plea Against CAA

On March 11, following the Union Home Ministry’s notification of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) rules, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan asserted that Kerala would not enforce the Act. Vijayan stated, “The LDF government approached the Supreme Court to confirm that Kerala would not implement the Citizenship Amendment Act. Kerala is the first state to move a plea against CAA in the Supreme Court. The state will initiate further legal action soon.”

    Mandate Under CAA 2019

The regulations of the CAA, brought by the Central government and ratified by Parliament in 2019, is designed to grant Indian citizenship to persecuted migrants belonging to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians community who fled from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan and entered India prior to December 31, 2014.

  • Congress, BJP trade barbs over Rahul Gandhi’s ‘IUML completely secular’ remark

    By PTI

NEW DELHI: Rahul Gandhi’s remark that IUML is a “completely secular party” triggered a political slugfest on Friday with the BJP alleging that the Kerala-based party is guided by the same mindset which was behind the Muslim League and the Congress reminding the saffron party about its veteran leader LK Advani’s praise for Mohammad Ali Jinnah during his 2005 Pakistan visit.

Gandhi, during a media interaction at the National Press Club in Washington, US, was asked about his party being in alliance with the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) in Kerala while talking about secularism, to which he answered “Muslim League is a completely secular party. There is nothing non-secular about the Muslim League.”

Gandhi’s remark drew a sharp response from the BJP as its leaders alleged that the IUML is guided by the same mindset which was behind Jinnah’s All India Muslim League.

Launching a scathing attack against Gandhi, Union minister Anurag Thakur said, “these are the same people who had stayed back after partition. They formed the Muslim League hereafter partition and became MPs. They advocated for Sharia law and wanted separate seats reserved for Muslims. They are the same people who are part of the same Muslim League. It is Rahul Gandhi and the Congress that see Hindu terrorism but feel Muslim League is secular. ”

In a counter-attack, the Congress said the party Gandhi referred to was different from the Muslim League, for which the BJP has “more love” and whose leader Jinnah was hailed by Advani.

In a tweet, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said, “Syama Prasad Mookerjee was in league with the Muslim League in the government in Bengal when (Mahatma) Gandhiji launched Quit India movement. SPM was singularly responsible for the partition of Bengal.”

He also tagged a tweet by Congress leader Amitabh Dubey who had slammed BJP IT department head Amit Malviya for his criticism of Gandhi, saying “You’re confusing the Kerala-based IUML he is talking about with Jinnah’s Muslim League that took Savarkar’s two-nation theory to its logical conclusion.”

“The same Muslim League with whom BJP founder SP Mookerjee and Hindu Mahasabha formed coalition governments in Bengal, Sind, NWFP (North-West Frontier Province),” Dubey said.

Congress’ media department head Pawan Khera hit out at the BJP over its criticism and said the BJP-RSS have more knowledge of Pakistan’s politics and Jinnah’s Muslim League as they share a historical ‘jugalbandi’. He said the NDA government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee had sent IUML leader E Ahamed to Geneva to represent India.

“IUML established the largest Sanskrit University in Kerala. The BJP also made an alliance with IUML for Nagpur Municipal Corporation. The omniscient Vishwaguru of WhatsApp nursery, please enrich your knowledge,” Khera claimed in a tweet in Hindi.

Meanwhile, the IUML welcomed Gandhi’s statement that the Kerala-based party is completely secular, saying the Congress leader’s assertion came from his party’s experience.

“Rahul Gandhi’s statement that the Muslim League is a secular party is based on his party’s experience. We look at it with great responsibility. The Muslim League’s close relationship with Congress dates back to the days of Indira Gandhi,” IUML general secretary P K Kunhalikutty said in a Facebook post.

BJP national spokesperson and MP Sudhanshu Trivedi claimed a link between the regional party and Jinnah’s outfit, which spearheaded the partition stir among Muslims.

“For the Congress, parties such as AIMIM, Muslim League and Indian Secular Front, a West Bengal party formed by a Muslim cleric, are secular and the PFI, a banned radical Islamic organisation, is a cultural body,” he said.

Mocking Gandhi, the BJP leader said his claim raises a question mark on his wisdom.

Reacting to the BJP’s criticism, Congress spokesperson Gourav Vallabh said the party Gandhi referred to is IUML which is a registered political party in India.

“Is a registered party in India not a secular party? Does the Election Commission get ineligible parties registered? I would like to remind the BJP that this is not the party with which Syama Prasad Mookerjee aligned to form the government in Bengal,” Vallabh said at a press conference at the AICC headquarters here.

“That Muslim League of Jinnah is different, with which you formed the government. Rahul Gandhi has not talked about that Muslim League but the thing is that you have more love for that party, therefore, you think that the party being talked about is the one whose leader was Jinnah,” he said, slamming the BJP.

Vallabh said he would like to tell the BJP people that the former Congress chief was not talking about the Muslim League of Jinnah on whose mausoleum in Pakistan, BJP co-founder Advani had hailed him and called him “secular”.

In 2005, Advani visited Pakistan and praised the neighbouring country’s founder Jinnah, triggering criticism from within his own party.

Hitting out at the BJP leaders for their criticism, Vallabh said, “so all those who today are talking about IUML should go and ask Advani ji,” he said.

  • Amit Shah slams Congress for cosying up to minority-based parties

    Express News Service
GUWAHATI: Pillorying the Congress for aligning with some minority-based parties in Assam, West Bengal and Kerala, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said the grand old party could go to any length to win elections.

“In Kerala, the Congress has aligned with the (Indian Union) Muslim League that worked to divide the country. In Assam, it has aligned with the AIUDF (All India United Democratic Front). Similarly in West Bengal, it has forged an alliance with a party floated recently by a cleric of Furfura Sharif Dargah. The Congress can go to any length to win elections,” Shah said addressing a rally at Margherita in poll-bound Assam.

He went hammer and tongs at the Congress for its tie-up with the AIUDF, which is headed by Lok Sabha member Maulana Badruddin Ajmal. Many in Assam view the AIUDF as the protector of illegal immigrants. Congress and AIUDF are components of an eight-party grand alliance of Opposition. It was formed with the sole aim to oust the BJP from power.

“The elections are just days away and there are two options before you. One is the Modi and Sonowal-led combine of BJP-AGP (Asom Gana Parishad). The other is the Rahul Gandhi-led Congress-Ajmal combine. Tell me who can do well for Assam. This election will determine Assam’s future,” Shah said addressing the crowd.

Continuing his attack, he said the Congress would go to people, talk about communities and make them fight, which is its policy. But the BJP believes in “sabka saath, sabka vikash, sabka vishwas”.

“Tell me what you want – violence or peace, gun or employment, infiltration or development? Can Rahul, with Ajmal seated on his shoulders, thwart infiltration? If you vote for the Congress, it will go to Ajmal…

“I want to make a promise to the people of Assam. Give us five more years. Infiltration will become a thing of the past,” Shah asserted.

Talking about the BJP’s commitment, he said land at the one-horned rhino fame Kaziranga National Park and the Satras (Vaishnavite prayer centres), encroached upon by the “infiltrators”, was cleared by the state’s BJP-led government.

“Could the Congress do it? Did it want to do it? No, their eyes are always fixed on the votes of infiltrators (immigrants). The BJP does not do vote-bank politics,” Shah said.

He slammed Congress also for remembering the tea workers during elections. He asked the party what it did for the workers when it was in power in Assam for 15 years and at the Centre for 10 years. Congress has promised a daily wage of Rs 365 if voted to power. Currently, it is Rs 167.

Shah reiterated the commitment that the BJP would make Assam flood-free if it retains power. He said the entire state has been already surveyed through satellite imageries and a design prepared to divert the floodwater to canals, reservoirs etc.
