    By ANI
NEW DELHI: Following multiple adjournments in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha amid vociferous protests by the opposition over their demands, Union Minister and Deputy Leader of House in the Rajya Sabha, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Tuesday said that the Centre held talks with the Opposition on Monday night and today morning, and assured them that the Government is ready to discuss all the issues and answer all questions raised in both the Houses of Parliament.

Naqvi hoped that the Opposition shall give notice of discussion in both the houses and said that the Chairman and Speaker shall decide when and as per what rules and regulations will the discussions take place.

Speaking to ANI, Naqvi said, “We had discussions with the Opposition yesterday night and even today. We repeatedly told them one thing. The Government is ready to discuss all the issues and answer all the questions the Opposition wants to raise in both the houses of Parliament. We assured them that the Government will actively participate in all the discussions irrespective of the topics that the Opposition will take up in the Parliament.”

“We hope that the Opposition will give notice for discussion of the issues they like. The Chairman and Speaker will decide when and as per what rules and regulations will the discussions take place,” he added.

Amid the uproar by the Opposition, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 12 noon and the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 11.45 am for the first time and till 12 noon for the second time today, the sixth day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

Earlier on Monday, the Upper House saw five adjournments as the government sought to push its legislative agenda. The House was adjourned till 12 noon, 2 pm, by 3 pm, 4 pm and 5 pm. The Lower House was adjourned thrice yesterday.

Meanwhile, responding to a question on Rahul Gandhi’s “Home Minister has failed the country” remarks, Naqvi said, “The arrogance of power is till dancing over their head. Who is he to give this certificate?”

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today accused the Centre of sowing hatred and distrust into the lives of people, terming the clashes ‘dreadful consequences.’

    By ANI
NEW DELHI: Amid the uproar by the Opposition, Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till 12 noon on Tuesday.

Soon after starting the business on the sixth day of the Monsoon session, the Opposition parties started sloganeering over the ‘Pegasus Project’ media report issue.

On Monday, the Upper House saw five adjournments as the government sought to push its legislative agenda. The House was adjourned till 12 noon, 2 pm, by 3 pm, 4 pm and 5 pm.

Both Houses of Parliament have been witnessing protests from opposition parties over their demands since the start of the monsoon session last week.

  • Won’t allow Parliament to function till Pegasus issue is discussed: Opposition parties

    By Express News Service
NEW DELHI: The Opposition parties have unanimously decided to continue with their protest in both the Houses of Parliament over the alleged use of spyware Pegasus by the Centre to track politicians, journalists, and other prominent persons.

Leaders of the Opposition parties in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha met on Tuesday morning before the Parliament proceedings started. It was agreed upon that the Centre should take up the issue of Pegasus.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has convened an all-party meeting Tuesday at 6 pm where top health ministry officials will give a presentation to some MPs on the matter. Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) have decided not to attend the meeting.

The Congress demanded that the presentation should happen in Central Hall so that all the members could attend it. However, SAD said that they will boycott it pending their demand to repeal the three farm laws.

Congress Chief Whip in Lok Sabha K Suresh said that it has been decided that the Opposition will collectively continue to protest inside both the Houses on the matter from Thursday. Parliament is closed Wednesday on the occasion of Bakrid.

Lok Sabha did not function on Tuesday while it was agreed upon in the Rajya Sabha to take up the short discussion on the management of the Covid pandemic.

“Discussion in Rajya Sabha was agreed upon under special circumstances keeping in mind the importance of the matter and not participating in the discussion would have projected the Opposition unsympathetic to people who have suffered due to pandemic,” said a senior Congress leader in Rajya Sabha.

The leader further said that the Business Advisory Committee under the Chairmanship of Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu agreed to take up the discussion earlier while the Pegasus report having named prominent political leaders being snooped by the government came later.

“We will not allow the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha function till the Pegasus issue is discussed in the House. Today is different as Rajya Sabha took the discussion on Covid as the Centre does politics on the issue. Pegasus is the number 1 issue, it is a national security issue and no compromise on that,” said Derek O’Brien, TMC Rajya Sabha floor leader.

He said that repeal of three farm laws is also the topmost priority for the party and would continue pressing for the same in the Parliament.

  • Farmers’ protest on July 22 outside Parliament will be peaceful: Rakesh Tikait

    By ANI
NEW DELHI: Ahead of the planned protest of the farmers outside Parliament on July 22, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait on Wednesday said the protest would be ”peaceful’ despite the country witnessing violence on Republic Day when protestors reached Red Fort as a part of their ‘tractor rally’ protest.

The protest will be held between the scheduled dates of the monsoon session, which is said to commence on July 19 and conclude by August 13.

“It will be a peaceful protest. We will sit outside the Parliament while proceedings will continue in the House,” Tikait told ANI.

He further said 200 people will go to the Parliament via bus. “We will pay the fare of the bus,” added the BKU leader.

For planning a blueprint of the protest, a meeting will be held today.

“Today we will have a meeting and we will plan strategy,” he said.

Earlier, on January 26, protesters broke barricades to enter New Delhi and clashed with police in several parts of the national capital during the ‘tractor rally’ protest organised by farmers.

The protestors had also entered the iconic Mughal era monument Red Fort and unfurled their flags from its ramparts.

Farmers have been protesting on the different borders of the national capital since November 26 last year against the three newly enacted farm laws: Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

Farmer leaders and the Centre have held several rounds of talks but the impasse remains.
