  • ‘God has given PM Modi an opportunity to…’, RSS’ Indresh Kumar slams Rahul Gandhi over remark against PM – The Economic Times Video

RSS leader Indresh Kumar responded to Rahul Gandhi’s remarks about the Prime Minister, stating that after June 4, Narendra Modi will no longer be the Prime Minister and emphasized that India has progressed beyond such comments and asserted that the people desire new dimensions and destinations with new leadership. “I said that because Rahul had announced that he is giving it in writing that on the 4th (June), the Prime Minister of the country won’t be Narendra Modi. Kejriwal had said that INDI Alliance will get so and so several seats. They made a political-style announcement, you can call it whatever you want. All I can say is that the country has moved forward from this. The country wants to see its new destination and new dimensions with the new leadership. God has given Narendra Modi and BJP-NDA this opportunity to take this country forward swiftly” said Indresh Kumar.

  • Indresh Kumar, the maverick RSS leader who speaks his mind

The speculation about differences between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its mother organisation the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) over the BJP’s low performance in the Lok Sabha elections is now gaining ground with a top RSS leader offering his unique interpretation of the election results.

Indresh Kumar, a member of the national executive of the RSS, has said that the BJP was restricted to 240 seats, well below the majority mark, due to its arrogance. Referring to the INDIA bloc of opposition parties, he said, “And those who had no faith in Ram, they together were stopped at 234.” Indresh’s comment comes right after the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said three days ago that a true sevak (the one who serves the people) never shows arrogance and always maintains decorum in public life.

Also Read: RSS leader Indresh Kumar slams BJP, says ‘those who became arrogant were stopped at 241 by Lord Ram’While these two statements that refer to arrogance will fuel the speculation about a rift between the RSS and the BJP, there is nothing new about the statements because the RSS has always been known for expressing its differences with the BJP.

On Narendra Modi becoming the Prime Minister for the third time, Indresh Kumar had said on June 9, “Today, the rarest of the rare is happening. It has become possible which seemed impossible. That’s why I extend my best wishes.”

Indresh, the maverickWhile a number of RSS leaders often express their independent views, Indresh is particularly known to speak his mind. In 2015, the RSS leadership was annoyed with him for “unauthorisedly” wading into a political row over then foreign minister Sushma Swaraj helping Lalit Modi when the former IPL boss was wanted by law. Swaraj, who was under pressure from opposition to resign after admitting that she helped Lalit Modi, found support from Indresh who defended her and said she had never compromised on nationalism and patriotism.Sources in the RSS had told TOI that Indresh’s statement reflected his personal view, and he should have refrained from articulating it without sanction from the leadership. The RSS sources said the leadership’s annoyance with Indresh was not over the content of what he said, but the fact that he chose to dwell on the matter at all. The remark ran contrary to RSS’s steadfast insistence on being an apolitical organisation which did not interfere with the “routine matters” of the BJP.In 2014, Indresh spoke on the controversy about Gopal Subramanium, a former solicitor-general, withdrawing his consent for a Supreme Court judgeship alleging that the NDA government was engaged in a smear campaign against him. “Do not indulge in character assassination of individuals by using agencies and media” Indresh said.

In 2017, Indresh stoked a row by saying that Bhagat Singh was a “bigger” follower of non-violence than Mahatma Gandhi, who he claimed could have averted partition of the country. Speaking at a function, he said, “The definition of ‘ahimsa’ (non-violence) is very different from what has been told to us. Non-violence does not only mean shunning of violence, but it also means attacking to defend oneself from a demon. Bhagat Singh made the demons (British) realise that they were wrong, and his act of throwing a bomb in assembly was not to kill anyone. But what he suffered afterwards was actually an act of violence at the hands of the British.”

Indresh’s controversial pastIndresh was linked to the 2007 Ajmer bomb blast case during the UPA government and was probed by investigation agencies. A bomb blast on October 11, 2007 at the dargah of Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti at the time of Roza-Iftaar had left three pilgrims dead and 15 injured. The case was handed over to Rajasthan Police ATS and later transferred to the NIA, which re-registered the case on April 6, 2011. He was also questioned by the CBI in connection with the 2007 blast at Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad.

In 2017, the NIA submitted a closure report in the case, giving a clean chit to Indresh and other accused including Sadhvi Pragya, saying no prosecutable evidence was found against them.

After his acquittal, he said the people who coined the word “Hindutva terror“ have committed a “sin“, an “unpardonable act and they have to pay a price for this“. In a conversation with ET, he had said that there had been no case against him and that his name was not in the FIRs lodged.

The man behind Sangh Parivar’s Muslim outreachIndresh Kumar is the margadarshak (guide) of the Muslim Rashtriya Manch, a Muslim organisation supported by the RSS and has been leading the Sangh Parivar’s outreach to the Muslim community. He has said that 99 per cent Muslims in India are “Hindustani” by their ancestry, culture, traditions and motherland. He has also supported the view expressed by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in the past that Indians have common ancestors, hence their DNA is common.

Indresh had said in 2020 that no maulana has ever helped Muslims like Modi has. Speaking at an event on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), he said, “When Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office in 2014, some people claimed that Muslim colonies will be destroyed and they will be deprived of jobs and other facilities. Today, six years have passed and nothing bad has happened to Muslims. In fact, Muslims were given gas connections and other facilities. No maulana has ever helped Muslims like Modi has. The fear being spread in the name of CAA is ridiculous and wrong.”

Indresh belongs to Kaithal in Haryana and has studied mechanical engineering at the Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh. In 2019, Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Urdu, Arabi~Farsi University in Lucknow awarded Indresh an honorary doctorate in literature at its convocation.

  • NDA is back but we are not free of challenges: Mohan Bhagwat – The Economic Times Video

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat has criticised political parties for not maintaining dignity during the just concluded polls. Bhagwat also said that the opposition should not be considered as an adversary in a democracy and their views should also come to light. “It is called Opposition. It should not be considered an adversary. Their opinions should also come to light,” he said while addressing the closing ceremony RSS worker’s development class in Maharashtra’s Nagpur.

  • Replying to RSS chief’s question, Manipur tribal body claims CM Biren Singh instigated ethnic strife

    By PTI

IMPHAL: The Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF), an organisation of the Kuki-Zo community, on Tuesday alleged that Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has “instigated” the ethnic strife in the northeastern state which began in early May.

Commenting on RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s remark that Meiteis and Kukis, the two warring communities in the state, were living together for a long time, the ITLF asked why no clashes had taken place between the two sides before the present government started ruling the state in March 2017.

Addressing the RSS Dussehra rally at Nagpur earlier in the day, Bhagwat said, “Who actually fuelled the conflict? It (violence) is not happening, it is being made to happen.”

In a statement, the ITLF alleged that the answer to his question is Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

The tribal organisation also raised a series of questions on the Manipur situation such as why AFSPA was recently removed only in valley areas and not in hill districts.

While the Meitis live mainly in the Imphal Valley, Kukis are in majority in hills districts.

Another question raised by the ITLF is: “Why was the government notification of 1966 regarding ‘reserved’ and ‘protected’ forests under the Indian Forest Act, 1927 suddenly implemented in 2023?”

The strife in Manipur was preceded by protests by tribals against a drive by the state government to evict them from reserve forest areas.

“What Manipur witnessed in the past few years was a highly coordinated assault on the rights and protections that tribals enjoyed under the constitution,” The ITLF statement read.

More than 180 people have been killed and several hundreds injured since ethnic violence broke out in Manipur on May 3 when a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organised in the hill districts to protest against the majority Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status.

Meiteis account for about 53 per cent of Manipur’s population and live mostly in the Imphal Valley.

Tribals — Nagas and Kukis — constitute little over 40 per cent and reside in the hill districts. Follow The New Indian Express channel on WhatsApp

  • India belongs to me as much as it does to PM Modi, Mohan Bhagwat: Jamiat chief

    By PTI

NEW DELHI: Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind president Maulana Mahmood Madani has claimed that India is the “birthplace of Islam” and asserted that the country belongs to him as much as it does to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.

Madani said it is wrong to suggest that Islam came from outside while claiming that the “first Prophet of Islam Adam descended here.”

The Jamiat chief appealed to the RSS to urge its affiliates to shun “hate and enmity” and jointly work for making the country the most developed in the world. He also urged both Hindus and Muslims of the country to defy extremism and live with each other in peace.

Madani’s remarks came during his two speeches, one Friday evening and the other Saturday afternoon, during the ongoing annual general session of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind (Mahmood Madani faction) here at the Ramlila ground.

“The distinction of this land is that the first Prophet of Islam Adam descended here. This land is the birthplace of Islam and the first homeland of Muslims. Therefore, to say that Islam is a religion that came from outside is completely wrong and historically baseless,” he said on Friday.

“This is our country. As much as this country belongs to Narendra Modi and Mohan Bhagwat, it belongs to Mahmood. Neither Mahmood is one inch ahead of them nor are they one inch ahead of Mahmood,” he said.

Islam is a religion of this country and it is also the oldest of all religions, he claimed.

“The last Prophet of Islam, Muhammad, came to complete the same religion. So, I have no qualms in saying that India is the best place for Hindi Muslims,” Madani said.

In his remarks on Saturday, Madani expressed concerns about the alleged increase in incidents of Islamophobia and hate speech in the country. The Jamiat chief called on the RSS to jointly work with all for making the country the most developed and ideal in the world. “We want to make it clear here that we do not have any religious or ethnic enmity with the RSS and the BJP, but our differences are based on ideology,” Madani said.

“In the current situation, Jamiat appeals to the RSS and its leaders to take practical steps in the light of the current ideas of their leaders and to convince their affiliated organisations to shed the cloak of hatred and sectarianism,” he said.

“We have no grudge against the promotion of Santan Dharma, nor should you have any grudge against the promotion of Islam,” Madani said.

Madani also stressed that the percentage of people spreading hatred in the country is very small and that the majority is still secular and believes in tolerance. “In the current dark atmosphere of hatred, we welcome and support all those who are trying to initiate a dialogue and understand each other’s ideas in order to foster stronger mutual relations,” Madani said.

Mutual negotiation is the solution to all problems, he asserted.

The plenary session of the event is scheduled to take place on Sunday. According to a release issued by Jamiat on Saturday, the prominent Muslim organisation also passed a 17-point resolution. Jamiat opposed the efforts to implement a Uniform Civil Code in India, the statement said.

It argued that the UCC will have a direct impact on the country’s unity and diversity, and is contrary to the spirit of democracy and the constitutional guarantees given in Articles 25 to 29 of the Constitution. The Jamiat alleged that the government’s efforts in this direction are motivated by “vote-bank” politics rather than the protection of fundamental rights. It called on Muslims to remain steadfast in implementing Islamic Shariah and protecting the rights of women according to Islamic teachings, the statement said.

In its 34th General Session, Jamiat also recommended measures to protect the freedom and autonomy of madrassas Despite their contributions to the country, a section of society and even some Muslims are spreading misconceptions about madrassas and blaming them for terrorism, Jamiat said.

The meeting recommended various steps to address the situation including utilising the media to correct the “distorted” image of madrassas, protect them from terrorism and anti-national activities and adhere to the laws of the country for their management.

In its resolutions, Jamiat also expressed concern about the alleged rise of Islamophobia and incitement against the Muslim community in the country. The organisation called for immediate action, including a separate law to give strict punishment to those who spread hatred and incite violence against minorities. The organisation also warned youth and student organisations to be cautious of anti-patriotic elements and to avoid organisations that propagate extremism and violence in the name of Islam.

“The general session of the Jamiat condemned the Islamophobic campaign carried out by the media,” the statement said.

The Jamiat also expressed concern about the protection of Muslim endowment (Waqf) properties and their income. It raised the issue of alleged “forced evictions” of homeless people, arrests of thousands “in the name of child marriage” and incidents of attacks and “mob lynching” of Dalits and Muslims.

  • What about Modi’s two crore jobs promise: Sibal’s dig at Mohan Bhagwat’s remarks

    By PTI

NEW DELHI: Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Monday took a swipe at RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s remarks urging people not to run after jobs, asking what about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two crore jobs per year promise.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Bhagwat on Sunday said lack of dignity for labour was one of the main reasons behind unemployment in the country, and urged people to respect all kinds of work irrespective of their nature, while also asking them to stop running after jobs.

Reacting to the remarks, Sibal tweeted, “Mohan Bhagwat: Don’t ‘chase government jobs’. Where are the private jobs Bhagwat ji?” “And what about the 2 crore jobs a year that Modiji promised!” the former Union minister said.

At a public function in Mumbai, Bhagwat had said no work can be labelled big or small as it is done for society.

“No matter what kind of work people do, it should be respected. Lack of dignity for labour is one of the chief reasons behind unemployment in society. Whether the work requires physical labour or intellect, whether it requires hard work or soft skills – all should be respected,” he said.

“Everyone runs behind jobs. Government jobs are only around 10 per cent, while other jobs are around 20 per cent. No society in the world can create more than 30 per cent jobs,” he said.

  • RSS chief Bhagwat stresses purity of heart for Shrestha Bharat

    Express News Service

NEW DELHI:  An extraordinary sermon interspersed with patriotic zeal and accentuated by rich quotations of B R Ambedkar marked the speech of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat at a tricolor hoisting event in Jaipur on Thursday.

“We have to be filled with inner and outer purity and the one who is pure inside out never wants bad for others, he always wants to do good. There is no alienation in his heart towards others. Those who move ahead with a generous mind, with a pure mind, behave in a pious manner and consider everyone as their own. We have to become pure like this,” the RSS chief said.

Speaking at a Republic Day function at Keshav Vidaypeeth in Jamdoli near Rajasthan capital Jaipur, Bhagwat sought to distinguish the national flag colours as the symbols of sovereignty with patriotic enthusiasm, joy and pride. Bhagwat is on a five-day trip to Jaipur.

“We all have to be pure in Shrestha Bharat (great India)”. Those filled with inner and outer purity would never want to harm others. Such people carry no feeling of alienation,” Bhagwat said on the day. Prosperity, Bhagwat said, comes by cultivating the qualities of oneness.

“With this, there will be no shortage of ‘roti’ (bread), ‘kapda’ (clothes) and ‘makan’ (house), swaasthya (health) and ‘shiksha’ (education). That purity can help restore the splendour of environment, which is now getting affected,” the RSS chief said.

Bhagwat quoted Ambedkar to emphasise that ‘purity in action helps improve the cycle of nature’. He urged people to go through Ambedkar’s speeches made in Parliament during the drafting of the Constitution.

“BR Ambedkar taught us what our duties and responsibilities are. He had asserted that there was no slavery in the country. The imperial British rulers left, but to eradicate elements slavery caused by social inequality, the provisions of political and economic equality were included in the Constitution, the RSS chief said.

Quoting Ambedakar, he said ‘gulami’ (slavery) gripped the country not because of some powers of the country’s enemy, but because of those who continued to fight with each other for parochial and feudal gains. “Babasaheb said if freedom and equality are to be brought together, then we should bring brotherhood. That is why ‘fraternity’ along with ‘liberty’ and ‘equality is enshrined in our Constitution,” Bhagwat said.

  • All people living in India are Hindus: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat

    By PTI

DARBHANGA (Bihar): RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Monday asserted that all people living in India were by definition Hindus and diversity had flourished in the country because of the cultural ethos of the land.

Anybody who agrees to sing Sanskrit verses in praise of Bharat Mata and is committed to preservation of the culture of the land is a Hindu, the ‘Sarsanghchalak’ said.

Bhagwat who was addressing RSS workers here before concluding his four-day tour of Bihar, said the mammoth organisation will become redundant if all citizens of the country adopt the spirit of selfless service exhibited by the ‘Swayamsevaks’ (RSS volunteers).

“People should understand that because they live in Hindusthan, they all are Hindus. They might by other things as well, but all other identities have been made possible because of Hindu ethos of acceptance – Hindutva is the name for the centuries-old culture to which all the diverse streams owe their origin,” he said.

“Different branches may have stemmed and may seem opposed to each other, but they all trace their beginning to the same source,” Bhagwat said.

The septuagenarian RSS chief said values like seeing oneself in others, viewing women as mothers and not objects of lust and not coveting wealth that belongs to others defined the Hindu ethos.

“Hindutva is a binding force. All those who believe themselves to be Hindus are Hindus. So are those whose ancestors happened to be Hindus,” said Bhagwat, whose similar remarks in the past had triggered controversy.

RSS’s mission is to regain the lost glory of the country, which was the ‘Vishwaguru’ (world teacher) in the ancient times.

“To build a nation so great requires a conducive social atmosphere, which the Sangh seeks to create. Our volunteers spend just an hour at the shakhas. The remaining 23 hours of the day are spent rendering selfless social service without accepting a paisa of government aid,” Bhagwat said.

The swayamsevaks are seen in action whenever there is any calamity, natural or otherwise.

“We do not want anything in return, not even adulation,” he said.

The RSS, he said, came into being because society at large did not seem to be conscious enough of its responsibilities.

“If all people take to selfless service then there will be no need for people to wear our badge. Every citizen will deemed to be a swayamsevak in his own right,” Bhagwat added.

  • Modi a swayamsevak, but works independently: RSS

    By Express News Service

BHOPAL: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Saturday that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a Sangh swayamsewak and pracharak (volunteer), the RSS does not directly or remotely control outfits like the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), which though are run by swayamsevaks.

“Whenever the name of Sangh comes in, you take Modiji’s name. Yes Modiji was a Sangh swayamsevak and also a pracharak. The VHP, too, is run by our Swayamsevaks. But they work independently. We can only offer consultations and advice, but can never control them,” said the RSS chief. He was addressing an event in MP’s Jabalpur on Saturday.

“Hindutva means the philosophy of embracing all — the Preamble of the Constitution is the prime spirit of Hindutva,” he said.Addressing a gathering of intellectuals and prominent people in Jabalpur, Bhagwat said: “India didn’t become one nation on the basis of language, trading interests, political power and thought. It has become one nation on the basis of unity in diversity and Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam (world is one family).”

He said that it’s not the language or the worship system that forms a society. People with a common objective build a society. “Diversities are welcome and acceptable, but diversities should in no manner become the basis of any discrimination.”
