  • Mizoram extends total lockdown in Aizawl Municipal Corporation till July 31

    AIZAWL: The Mizoram government on Friday extended the total lockdown in Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) and imposed certain COVID-19 restrictions in other parts of the state till July 31 to curb surging infections, officials said.

    The ongoing shutdown was scheduled to be lifted on Saturday.

    The state government, in an official release, said the present COVID-19 positive detection rate is “extremely high” despite stringent measures taken to arrest rising cases.

    “It is felt necessary to continue with the current restriction for prevention of the further spread of coronavirus, and to facilitate the ongoing mass testing conducted by the health and family welfare department,” it said.

    Lockdown or other restrictions may be imposed in other places in the state by deputy commissioners depending on the pandemic situation, the release said.

    Essential services like water and electricity supply, healthcare, vaccination and LPG distribution will function normally.

    All shops will be closed in the AMC area except those dealing with essential commodities, it said.

    There is, however, no restriction on travel and transportation of goods outside the AMC area.

    Meanwhile, Mizoram on Friday reported 847 new COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day spike since the pandemic struck in March last year, a health department official said.

    The state’s tally stands at 30,492, of which 7,559 are active cases.

    As many as 22,802 people have recovered from the infection, including 185 since Friday. A total of 131 people have succumbed to the virus so far, he said.

    According to State Immunisation Officer Lalzawmi, over 6. 16 lakh people have been inoculated in the state thus far.

  • Mizoram extends lockdown till June 30

    AIZAWL: The Mizoram government on Friday extended the lockdown with certain relaxations till June 30, a notification said.

    The ongoing lockdown was scheduled to end on June 21.

    Under the new regulations, inter-village movement will be allowed and shops besides those selling essential commodities will be permitted to open on specific days in the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) area.

    Deputy commissioners in areas outside AMC jurisdiction can impose restrictions based on the local situation.

    However, villages or localities cannot announce lockdown, curfew or containment zones on their own, it said.

    All economic activities will function normally in areas outside AMC jurisdiction.

    However, places of worship, educational institutions, parks, picnic spots, movie theatres, gymnasiums, restaurants and shopping complexes and malls shall continue to remain closed across the state, it added.

  • Mizoram extends lockdown in Aizawl till June 6

    AIZAWL: The Mizoram government on Saturday extended the ongoing lockdown in the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) area by another seven days till 4 am of June 6 to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission.

    The lockdown imposed in state capital Aizawl and all district headquarters was scheduled to be lifted at 4 am on May 31.

    The restrictions were first clamped on May 10 and extended a couple of times.

    However, this time the complete lockdown was extended only in AMC area as the majority of Covid-19 cases detected in the recent days have been from this zone, according to a government order.

    As for other areas, the district authorities will impose restrictions, if necessary, depending on the Covid-19 situation in their respective areas, it said.

    “The imposition of lockdown for a further period of 7 days is necessary in AMC area to prevent further escalation of cases and overburdening of healthcare facilities,” the order said.

    According to the order, people residing within AMC area should not step out of their homes or compounds during the lockdown.

    Shops dealing in essential commodities in AMC area will be allowed to open every morning while those selling agricultural seeds and equipment, school textbooks, motor workshops and spare parts will operate only on Tuesday between 5 am and 5 pm.

    Shops dealing in construction materials, computers and mobile phones will be opened on Friday for 12 hours from 5 am, the order said.

    Vegetables and meat markets are also allowed to open on Friday, the order said.

    Hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, laboratories, pharmacies, dispensaries, bank and non-banking financial institutions, post offices, petrol pumps, LPG store houses, fair price shops and animal feed stores are exempted from the purview of the lockdown in AMC area.

    All government offices barring a few will remain closed during the lockdown in Aizawl.

    However, economic and agricultural activities outside the AMC area will function normally under strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols, the order said.

    All places of worship, educational institutions, public parks, picnic spots, movie theatres, gymnasiums, community halls, restaurants, shopping complexes and malls will continue to remain closed in all parts of the state.

    Only 30 attendees are allowed at funerals and wedding receptions in all parts of the state.

    According to the order, Mizoram residents or visitors should enter the state only through those entry points currently opened by the state government.

    Intra-state or inter-village movement is strictly prohibited except under medical emergencies and exceptional cases, it said.

    Mizoram on Saturday reported 283 Covid-19 cases, taking the state’s tally to 11,659.

    The number of active cases now stands at 2,863, while 8,761 people have recovered from the infection.

    Altogether 35 people have succumbed to coronavirus so far, a health department official said.

  • With no let-up in COVID surge, lockdown extended by seven days in Mizoram

    AIZAWL: The total lockdown imposed in Aizawl and other district headquarters from May 10 has been extended for another 7 days to flatten the COVID-19 transmission curve.

    The government order issued on Friday said that the existing complete lockdown, which was scheduled to be lifted on May 17 (4 am) has been extended till 4 am of May 24.

    “As COVID-19 positive cases continue to surge inspite of the stringent measures taken, the competent authority has decided to continue with the total lockdown with an anticipation of flattening the curve of the disease transmission thereby preventing probable overburdening of healthcare facilities,” the order said.

    The second corona wave continues to trouble the northeastern state.

    Mizoram on Friday reported 201 COVID-19 cases, pushing the state’s tally to 8,377.

    A total of 90 people were discharged in the state during the day.

    The number of active cases now stands at 2,060, while 6,294 people have recovered from the infection.

    At least 23 people have succumbed to the infection in Mizoram so far.

    The government order said that people residing in the state capital and other district headquarters/towns shall strictly confine to indoors and not venture outside without permission.

    All places of worship, educational institutions, public parks, picnic spots, movie theatres, gymnasiums, community halls, restaurants, shopping complexes, malls, business shops having no permission will continue to remain close in all parts of the state.

    Besides, all government offices barring few and all shops except those dealing with essential commodities, vegetables and meats will remain close during the extended complete lockdown in Aizawl and other district headquarters, it said.

    Shops dealing with essential commodities, vegetables and meats will be opened only on Tuesday and Friday, and every local level or village level task force will make arrangement for vegetable markets/stores to ensure that residents do not go outside their localities to buy vegetables, the order said.

    However, economic and agriculture activities will continue to function smoothly under strict adherence to COVID-19 appropriate behavior in other areas outside Aizawl and district headquarters, it said.

    Night curfew will also be continued in state capital and district headquarters/towns between 7 pm and 4 am.

    Government offices and commercial banks will also be allowed to open under strict coronavirus protocols outside the jurisdiction of the state capital and other district headquarters.

    Hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, laboratories, pharmacies, dispensaries, bank and non-banking financial institutions, post offices, filling stations, LPG store houses, fair price shop, animal feed store are exempted from total lockdown.

    State residents or visitors should enter the state only through those entry points currently opened by the state government and they will have to undergo mandatory home isolation for 10 days if they tested negative for COVID-19 upon their arrival.

    Quarantine is not mandatory for people visiting the state for a short duration (lesser than 96 hours) provided they possess COVID negative certificates from ICMR recognised RT- PCR or Truenat or CBNAT labs and tested negative for Covid-19 through Rapid Antigen Test upon their arrival.

    The Covid-19 negative certificate should not be older than 72 hours.

    According to the order, intra-state or inter-village movement is strictly prohibited except under exceptional or very essential cases.
