  • IMA seeks removal of one-week posting provision for medical interns in Ayush medicine

    By PTI
NEW DELHI: The Indian Medical Association has sought removal of the provision of one-week elective posting of medical interns in AYUSH medicine from the draft regulation for Compulsory Rotating Internship, calling it “superfluous” and an attempt to initiate “mixopathy”.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) came out with a draft regulation on internship that stated that a week’s training must be part of the rotational schedule in any of the Indian systems of medicine or AYUSH as an elective.

In a letter to the NMC, the IMA warned that the one-week period exposure especially in another system of medicine will only pave the way for a “half-baked mixopathy, which is disastrous for the country”.

Holding that the IMA strives for “purity” of profession, the medical body sought removal of the provision and said it can be replaced by one or two-week posting in Family Medicine along with Bioethics.

The IMA said it is not prudent for an intern trained in modern medicine to partake and practice a system of medicine which he or she has not learned at the under graduation level.

“IMA fully opposes the inclusion of one-week exclusive elective posting which is contrary to the established norm, superfluous and an attempt to initiate mixopathy. IMA strives for purity of profession,” the medical body said.

“AYUSH and its components are vast subjects, working there for a week the intern will not learn any new skill, and there is no clarity who shall be their mentor, and will they be assessed by NMC faculty norms or not.

What is the objective, roll or competency will be learned which will augment his competencies…Are we adding engineering and agricultural science too for a week as it will make him a perfect human being?” it asked.

The IMA underlined the importance of inclusion of Family Medicine along with Bioethics.

“Family Medicine is a specialty which is the need of the hour for catering to the common people with multi-faceted, continuous, comprehensive, cost-effective, community-oriented concept and values of family care,” it added.

  • Chhattisgarh: Allopathy-Ayurveda doctors confront each other on ‘Mixopathy’

    By Express News Service
RAIPUR: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) doctors on Sunday protested against the practise of ‘Mixopathy’ in Chhattisgarh.

While doctors against ‘Mixopathy’ called it an ‘unscientific’ approach, the health professionals practicing Ayurveda countered citing ‘the integration of systems of medicine will only benefit the people.’

“Every system of medicine has its own separate fundamental principles and cannot be mixed. Just like Ayurveda remedies rely on Vata, Pitta, and Kapha (the three-body ayurvedic types), the modern medicines system depends on symptoms and diagnosis where various types of tests of the patients ahead of the surgery are carried out.

“There are different levels of anesthesia treatment during surgical operations and various medications with remedy are used to prevent infection. The patient is consistently kept under observation. It would be better if everyone also knows how the surgeries and the complications during operations or other surgical emergencies are been carried out in Ayurveda,” said Dr Mahesh Sinha, president of the Chhattisgarh unit of IMA.

Earlier the state president of the Ayurveda Doctors Association Shivnarayan Dwivedi objected to the spreading of misconception about their practices by the IMA. “There remains a shortage of doctors in the state and the country. The postgraduate Ayurvedic doctors are capable to carry out every type of treatment including the surgery which is allowed under Mixopathy. The Ayurvedic doctors too can run a campaign in support of Mixopathy and against the IMA protest,” averred Dr Dwivedi.

Meanwhile, the representative of the state unit of IMA visited Raj Bhawan and handed over the memorandum protesting against the ‘Mixopathy’ in the name of the President, demanding its withdrawal.

  • IMA’s performance against mixopathy will continue till 14 February

A gradual hunger strike continues across the country against homeopathy, Ayurvedic and Unani doctors being allowed treatment and operation in allopathy. Members of IMA’s Raipur and anesthesia doctors performed at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College campus. Many doctors became part of this strike from their clinic, hospital itself. This performance of IMA will continue till 14 February. Through the demonstration, the doctors demanded the withdrawal of this order from the central government. Let me tell you that the MCI i.e. Medical Council of India is opposing the permission of doctors of Ayurveda, Unani and Homeopathy for treatment and operation in allopathy across the country. MCI has named this new order as Mixopathy.
