  • Mission: Impossible 7| Tom Cruise-starrer titled ‘Dead Reckoning: Part 1’

    By PTI

LOS ANGELES: The seventh instalment of Tom Cruise-led “Mission: Impossible” has received an official title. During Hollywood studio Paramount Pictures’ presentation at the ongoing CinemaCon convention, Cruise revealed that the latest film has been titled “Mission: Impossible 7 – Dead Reckoning: Part 1”.

The Hollywood star sent a pre-recorded video for the film’s presentation from South Africa, where he is currently filming for the eighth part of the long-running action series, reported Deadline. The actor, who was standing atop a biplane, said, “Please enjoy. And hey! Let’s try to have a great summer.”

The studio then played a teaser that gave a sneak peak into all the action sequences planned by the makers, including one where Cruise’s Ethan Hunt nose dives off a cliff while on his motorcycle and then free-falls into the abyss.

Paramount has planned the seventh and eighth instalments as two back-to-back films and they are expected to bring an end to the franchise. Both films are being directed by Christopher McQuarrie, and will introduce new cast members Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Rob Delaney and Indira Varma.

Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby and Henry Czerny are reprising their characters from the earlier movies. “Mission: Impossible 7 – Dead Reckoning: Part 1” will open in the US theatres on July 14, 2023, with the eighth and presumably final movie coming out on June 28, 2024.

  • Tom Cruise’s ‘Mission: Impossible 7’ official title revealed

    By IANS

LOS ANGELES: Hollywood star Tom Cruise will be returning as Ethan Hunt in the seventh instalment of the ‘Mission Impossible’ franchise called ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’.Paramount Pictures revealed the tentpole’s official title during its Thursday presentation at CinemaCon, the annual trade show for theatre owners.Cruise, who is usually a regular presence at the convention in Las Vegas, wasn’t in attendance, reports ‘Variety’.Though in fairness, he attended last year’s CinemaCon to talk up the death-defying stunts in ‘Mission: Impossible 7’ before the movie’s release date was pushed back by a year due to Covid. At that time, he was most excited about driving a motorcycle off a cliff in Norway, an antic he called “far and away the most dangerous thing I’ve attempted.”Audiences got a sneak preview of that anxiety-inducing moment – and more – in the high-stakes trailer, which hasn’t been made available to the public. His stunts have gotten so outrageous that everyone in the room laughed when Ethan Hunt nose dives off a cliff while on his motorcycle and then free-falls into the abyss.General audiences will be able to watch the teaser in front of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, which hits theatres on May 27.Though plot details for ‘MI7’ are mostly ambiguous, Hunt and his team of operatives are again faced with an existential threat. The trailer was stuffed with action-packed footage, including vintage-looking trains flying off tracks, deadly emerald-coloured clouds of biochemical weapons, and plenty of brutal street combat.”You’re fighting to save an ideal that doesn’t exist… never did,” Henry Czerny’s character Eugene Kittridge, the former director of the IMF, tells Hunt.”You need to pick a side.”Since he was not at Caesars Palace, Cruise sent along a pre-recorded video that was basically unintelligible because the actor was hanging from an airplane.”Please enjoy,” he told the audience.”And hey! Let’s try to have a great summer.”Cruise loomed large over Paramount’s three-hour presentation; the studio devoted nearly the entire time to screening his other high-profile blockbuster, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, a sequel to the 1986 action adventure.Thursday’s screening marks the first time a wide audience will see the movie, which is going to the Cannes Film Festival next month.Christopher McQuarrie returns to direct ‘Mission: Impossible – 7’ after steering the franchise’s fifth and sixth installment – 2015’s ‘Rogue Nation’ and 2018’s ‘Fallout’.The latter became the highest-grossing entry in the long-running series, grossing nearly $800 million at the global box office.Along with Cruise, who once again stars as an IMF agent known to occasionally hang off airplanes and skyscrapers, ‘MI’ stars Ving Rhames, Henry Czerny, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby and Frederick Schmidt will also return.Newcomers to the franchise include Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Esai Morales, Rob Delaney, Charles Parnell, Indira Varma, Mark Gatiss and Cary Elwes.’MI7′, which has been delayed several times during the pandemic, is scheduled to open in theatres on July 14, 2023.’Dead Reckoning Part Two’, as it will presumably be called, is set to be released on June 28, 2024.

  • Director Christopher McQuarrie salutes ‘unrelenting’ cast, crew as production on ‘Mission Impossible 7’ wraps

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Despite several setbacks ranging from Covid-19 to its star Tom Cruise’s broken ankle, and also a government shutdown with daunting protocols, the production for ‘Mission Impossible 7’ has finally wrapped up.

The movie’s director Christopher McQuarrie took to Instagram today and expressed his gratitude to the cast and crew, who overcame enormous obstacles to bring the film home. Along with it, he posted a picture of himself with the film’s lead and co-producer Cruise.

In his post, McQuarrie wrote, “All you need is good people. To our indomitable, unstoppable, unrelenting cast and crew: Even under the best of circumstances, it should have been impossible.”

He further added, “Even having seen it, we can’t believe what you’ve achieved. Words can never adequately express our gratitude and admiration – not only to you but to your loved ones. You are the best in the world.”

Originally scheduled for a late July 2018 release, the cast and crew battled through the challenges posed by the circumstances to finally conclude three years later.

The Covid-19 pandemic had turned a challenging shoot into something nearly impossible. Even when production resumed, Cruise had to unload angrily on the crew of the film’s London set regarding lapses in social distancing protocols.

According to Deadline, Cruise helped in developing the protocols meant to get the film through production that spanned from Italy to Norway and London.

There were reports of Covid-19 issues during the Italy leg of the shoot, which reportedly shut the film down for a couple of days. The star himself was also part of a delay due to him suffering a broken ankle while filming a stunt.

The pandemic posed unique challenges. As per Variety, the UK government issued strict protocols, only allowing small numbers of essential cast and crew to travel to the UK without the 14-day quarantine. It also required individuals to live in “bubbles” comprising accommodation and filming locations only.

  • Paramount postpones sequels of ‘Top Gun’, ‘Mission: Impossible’ amid surge in Covid cases

    By PTI

LOS ANGELES: Studio Paramount Pictures has decided to push back the release of two of its most anticipated titles “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Mission: Impossible 7”, both headlined by Hollywood star Tom Cruise, given the current conditions of the coronavirus pandemic and its Delta variant around the world.

According to a report in Deadline, the film studio went ahead with the calendar shuffle after they consulted with experts and their own global team.

The development comes days after the studio successfully launched the clips and footage of the two films at CinemaCon 2021.

“Top Gun: Maverick” will now be released on May 27, 2022, the Memorial Day weekend.

The long-awaited sequel of the 1986 hit action drama was earlier scheduled on the pre-Thanksgiving weekend of November 19, 2021.

“Mission: Impossible 7”, which was supposed to be released on the Memorial Day weekend next year, will now premiere on September 30, 2022.

Co-produced with Skydance, these two films are part of big potential billion dollar grossing franchises which require a free run at the theatres, something which is not possible as cases continue to surge across the globe.

Recently, Paramount moved “Clifford The Big Red Dog” out of the release line-up later this year and will re-date some time in the future.

In addition, the studio’s “Jackass Forever” will open on February 4, 2022 instead of October 22 this year.

Paramount will next release their first big feature the reboot of “Scream”, produced by Spyglass Dimension, on January 14, 2022, leaving the rest of 2021 without any releases.

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ will now open in theatres on May 27, 2022, instead of November 19, 2021, while the other Cruise-led adventure, ‘Mission: Impossible 7’, will release on September 30, 2022, instead of May 27, 2022.

‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’ filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie has directed the seventh installment of the franchise. Joseph Kosinski has helmed ‘Top Gun: Maverick’.

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ was originally set for a June 24, 2020 opening but was shifted back to December 23, 2020, due to the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. It later had release dates set for July 2, 2021, and, most recently, November 19, 2021.

On the other hand, ‘Mission: Impossible 7’ was first delayed from July 23, 2021, to November 19 before ‘Maverick’ took over that spot and pushed it to May 27, 2022. It now lands four months after Maverick’s premiere.

But worry not as there are still several promising titles on the calendar through the end of the year, assuming rival studios keep their biggest movies on the schedule.

In the fall, Universal’s musical adaptation of ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ is opening on September 24, MGM’s James Bond sequel ‘No Time to Die’ is launching on October 8 and Sony’s ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ is debuting on October 15.

Later in 2021, Disney and Marvel’s ‘Eternals’ is dated for November 5, Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of ‘West Side Story’ is scheduled for December 10 and Warner Bros.’ ‘The Matrix 4’ is slated for December 22.

  • ‘Mission: Impossible 7’, ‘A Quiet Place: Part II’ to release on Paramount Plus post 45-day theatrical run

    By PTI
LOS ANGELES: ViacomCBS has announced that Paramount Pictures’ major movie titles like “Mission: Impossible 7” and “A Quiet Place Part II” will be debuting on its rebranded streaming service Paramount Plus 45 days after they leave theatres.

The announcement was made at a presentation on Wednesday during which ViacomCBS unveiled a slew of movies and shows for the streamer, formerly known as CBS All Access and now set to launch in the US on March 4.

John Krasinski-directed “A Quiet Place Part II” was originally scheduled to open in the US on March 20 last year but the plans were derailed by the coronavirus pandemic.

The movie, which will feature Emily Blunt in the lead, is currently set for September 17 release.

“Mission: Impossible 7”, which marks the return of Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, is currently scheduled to hit theatres on November 19.

According to Variety, Paramount has adjusted its pay TV output deal with MGM’s premium network Epix in order to bolster movie offerings on the streaming platform.

MGM’s upcoming projects such as Lady Gaga-starrer “House of Gucci”, Rocky franchise sequel “Creed III” and James Bond franchise film “No Time to Die” will head to Paramount Plus after their theatrical runs.

The service will also be home to 700 films from the Miramax library.

Earlier, theatres exhibitors in the US mandated that movies had to screen in cinema house for 90 days before studios could offer them on home entertainment.

But several Hollywood studios have altered their strategies in the wake of the pandemic.

During the time, Paramount had sold a number of its movies to other streamers, such as “The Trial of the Chicago 7” to Netlflix, and “Coming 2 America” and “Without Remorse” to Amazon Prime Video.

However, it kept tentpole movies like “Mission: Impossible” and “Top Gun: Maverick” exclusively for theatrical release.

During the presentation, ViacomCBS unveiled 36 originals, including a revival of “Frasier”, a “Yellowstone” spinoff and new Taylor Sheridan show starring Jeremy Renner, that will release on Paramount Plus in its first year.

Also in the works are new takes on Paramount features “Love Story”, “Fatal Attraction”, “Flashdance”, “The Italian Job” and “The Parallax View”.

The five shows, which are in various stages of development, join previously announced series “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies”, which has received a script-to-series commitment from the streamer, and “The Offer”, about the making of cult classic movie “The Godfather”.
