  • Rajasthan govt sanctions over Rs 860 crore for inclusion of milk in mid-day meals

    JAIPUR: The Rajasthan government on Tuesday sanctioned Rs 864 crore for the daily inclusion of milk in mid-day meals to school students up to Class 8 across the state.

    At present, sweetened-hot milk is served twice a week in government schools under the ‘Mukhyamantri Bal Gopal Yojana’, launched on November 29, 2022.

    To further boost the nutritional value of the daily mid-day meals, milk will now be provided during the remaining four days as well for all students of classes 1 to 8, an official statement said.

    The scheme, announced by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in the 2023-24 state budget, will be started in government schools, madrassas and special training centers to ensure that students opting for mid-day meals are provided milk as well.

    According to the statement, Gehlot has approved a budget provision of Rs 864 crore for the daily inclusion of milk in mid-day meals.

    Based on another announcement in the budget, the government said canals and distributaries in Kota, Bundi and Baran districts will be strengthened.

    The lining of irrigation water canals and structures of the canal system will be strengthened, the statement said, adding a 406-kilometer lining renovation work has been approved by Gehlot.

    A total of Rs 367.17 crore will be spent on 17 such redevelopment works, of which Rs 38.72 crore will be spent in the financial year 2023-24, it said.

  • Plea claims soy, almond products can’t be termed as milk; HC seeks Centre, Delhi government stand

    NEW DELHI: The issue whether products derived from non-mammal sources, particularly plants, can be termed as milk or milk products was raised in a plea before the Delhi High Court which on Monday sought response of the Centre, Delhi government and food safety regulator FSSAI on the issue.

    Justice Rekha Palli issued notice to the Centre, Delhi government, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and various companies, including Hershey, which sells such products — like soy milk — seeking their stand on the plea by the National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India (NCDFI).

    NCDFI, the apex body of the the cooperative dairy sector, has contended that beverages or products derived from soya, almonds and so on cannot be sold as ‘milk’ or ‘milk products’ like paneer, curd or yogurt.

    The court said the issue raised is interesting and listed the matter for hearing on September 14.

    Besides Hershey, the other companies to whom notice has been issued by the court are Rakyan Beverages Pvt Ltd, which sells products under the Rawpressery brand, and Drums Food International Pvt Ltd, which uses the Epigamia brand.

And shops that have been given permission to open the shop. Instructions have been given to ensure that all the shopkeepers and all the people of their staff get antigen test done. He has said that antigen test should be done in urban areas. During this time, the team will consist of one revenue department employee, urban body employee, health department team and police department employee. This work should be done continuously for three to four days and the information should be sent in the prescribed form to the district office every evening in the evening. In compliance with this, antigen test of the relatives was done in all the urban body areas of the district today.

    Collector has said that he should take action against the people who unnecessarily move out of the house, as per rules. He said that if there is a large number of baths in the village pond, then stop it. Provide testing and other urgent services in the Containment Zone and the area remains barricaded. Ensure barricading effectively in the entry way to the village. For the people staying in the Quarantine Center, continue the testing and the provision of food and water. While giving permission for the marriage program given by the subdivisional officer, please also provide the information to the applicant that the crowd does not gather more than the prescribed number in the marriage program. Apart from this, on the occasion of the official and employee function day of the Revenue and Police Department, check that there is no more crowd than the prescribed number. If anyone is found to be in violation of the rules, then penalty action should be taken. Similarly, this rule will be applicable to any other program that is allowed.   • Milk to be served three days a week to children aged between 3 and 6 years at Anganwadis in MP

    BHOPAL: Milk will be served three days a week to children aged between three and six years in Anganwadis across Madhya Pradesh, the state cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan decided on Tuesday.

    According to the state government’s official statement, the cabinet decided to re-start the regular distribution of milk for 3 days in a week to children of Anganwadi centers in the 3 to 6 age group by the Madhya Pradesh Mid-Day Meal Programme Council (Panchayat and Rural Development Department) from January-2021.

    In 2019, while there was a Congress government in power in MP, then women and child development minister Imarti Devi had mooted the idea of serving eggs to kids at Anganwadi centers, which had kicked up a political row in the state. In 2020, the Jyotiraditya Scindia loyalist minister Imarti Devi (who was then the WCD minister in Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP government) had again rooted for serving eggs to kids at Anganwadis to fight malnutrition, but the idea was disapproved by the CM. Devi, just a few weeks later lost the assembly by-elections as BJP candidate.

    The Tuesday’s state cabinet meeting also decided to establish women police stations in 42 districts to curb crime against women and for the smooth registration and research of the crimes committed. Out of the 52 districts in the state, ten districts already have women police stations.

    There will be Zero financial burden on the establishment of women police stations in the remaining 42 districts by rationalizing a total of 1470 forces sanctioned for zones, districts and women police stations. The decision was in line with the 2021-22 annual budget announcement of one women police station in each of the 52 districts.

    The Cabinet also decided to implement the ‘Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana’ launched by the Central government under the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign for the next 5 years (from 2020-21 to 2024-25) in the state. In the next 5 years, an amount of Rs 481.66 crore will be spent on integrated development and management of fisheries in the state.

    Further, the cabinet gave a revised administrative approval of Rs 585.21 crore for total irrigated area of 19,785 hectares for Parasdoh Medium Lift Irrigation Project in Betul district. The cabinet also granted revised administrative sanction of Rs 102.45 crore for Murki Medium Irrigation Project of Dindori district.

    Also, the cabinet decided to implement the National Animal Disease Control Program of the central government in the state as per the proposal received by the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department.
