  • Miley Cyrus’ ‘Flowers’ breaks Spotify’s all-time one-week record

    By IANS

LOS ANGELES: Singer Miley Cyrus’ ‘Flowers’ has broken Spotify’s all-time one-week record with 100 million streams in a single week.

The service announced Friday morning that, as of Thursday, ‘Flowers’ had become the most-streamed song in a seven-day period in Spotify history, reports ‘Variety’.

As of Friday morning, the latest update for Cyrus’ ‘Flowers’ streams on the site showed that it had racked up 101,838,799 stream since coming out late in the day on January 12. On Thursday, it reached the 100 million point faster than any other song ever has to date on Spotify.

“It’s been incredible watching ‘Flowers’ break the record for most streams in a single week,” said Jana Coffey, Spotify’s artist & label partnerships lead, in a statement to Variety.

“The song was already off to an amazing start after its first day, and it’s only grown from there.

Rather than seeing massive streams on day one that decline throughout the week, each day since release has been bigger than the one before. Miley is back, and with her album ‘Endless Summer Vacation’ coming out in a few months this is just the beginning.”

The previous record-holder for most Spotify streams in a week? BTS’ ‘Butter’, which very nearly made it to the 100 million mark in its first seven days. It set a then-record with 99.37 million Spotify streams in its first seven days on the platform’s stream counter, getting to the 100 million mark on its eighth day.

The giant results for ‘Flowers’ on Spotify bode extremely well for the odds of ‘Flowers’ coming out on top of the Billboard Hot 100 when that chart’s top 10 is announced on Monday.

‘Flowers’ has been seen as in hot competition with SZA’s multi-week riser “Kill Bill” to claim the Hot 100’s No. 1 spot away from the current leader, Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero.”

Although downloads are not nearly as big of a factor in the Hot 100 as streaming and radio, digital sales for ‘Flowers’ have also been unusually high, with the tune not budging from the top spot on the iTunes song sales chart since it came out eight days ago.

If ‘Flowers’ does prevail in debuting at No. 1, it will be Cyrus’ first song to top the Hot 100 since ‘Wrecking Ball’ a decade ago; that smash remains her lone topper on that chart to date.

However big ‘Flowers’ becomes, it will still have a way to go in becoming her most-streamed song ever.

According to current stats on the platform, her all-time leader there is ‘Party in the USA,’ which has claimed 1.1 billion Spotify streams to date. That song peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100 in 2009.

  • Miley Cyrus takes a swipe at ex-husband in ‘Flowers’

    By Online Desk

Miley Cyrus takes a swipe at ex-husband Liam Hemsworth in her latest single, Flowers. The Tennessee singer chose to release the first single from her forthcoming album “Endless Summer Vacation” on January 13. Her fans think “Flowers” resembles Bruno Mars’ song, “When I Was Your Man.”

According to Billboard, some fans have speculated that Hemsworth dedicated Mars’ song to Cyrus following their first engagement in 2013 — though those theories so far are unconfirmed, Insider reports.

In “When I Was Your Man,” Mars sings that he wishes he “bought you flowers, and held your hand.”

Although Mars isn’t credited as a sample on the song, Cyrus sings “I can buy myself flowers,” and “I can hold my own hand” in a similar tune to Mars’ hit.

Flowers comes two years after she announced she was divorcing actor Liam Hemsworth. The couple were married for just a year, but they had been together for a decade, El Pais reports.

The messages about empowerment in Flowers go beyond the lyrics. Cyrus also uses fashion to express that she feels complete. As a Twitter thread points out, in the music video, she begins the song dressed in a golden Saint Laurent creation from 1992, the year she was born. Then she takes a dip in a pool and exercises, dressed in black underwear, in a clear metaphor for working to feel stronger. And she ends the song in a masculine suit for a cathartic dance that has been compared with the Joker’s. A perfect ending for a story of recovery. The post-breakup song we needed, El Pais report noted.

  • Miley Cyrus calls marriage with Liam Hemsworth a ‘disaster’

    By IANS

LOS ANGELES: Pop singer Miley Cyrus, who was married to actor Liam Hemsworth, during her performance at Lollapalooza festival in Brazil briefly mentioned the matter while helping a couple get engaged at her concert.

According to Daily Mail, the ‘Malibu’ singer brought a gay couple on stage for their proposal, reports aceshowbiz.com.

“Honey, I hope your marriage goes better than mine,” the daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus congratulated the pair, before adding, “Mine was a f**king disaster.”

Cyrus and ‘The Hunger Games’ star were first linked in 2008 after they both starred in the film ‘The Last Song’.

The then-couple later got engaged in 2012, only to break up the following year. They, however, managed to rekindle their romance in 2015 and eventually get married in December 2018.

Unfortunately, their marriage didn’t last for more than a year as she was photographed kissing Brody Jenner’s ex Kaitlynn Carter.

“Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers,” a representative for Cyrus revealed to PEOPLE at the time.

Miley’s whirlwind romance with Kaitlynn only lasted for a month. She later was romantically linked to Australian singer Cody Simpson for ten months. Of their brief relationship, Cody said that it was “just one of those phases… everything ended fairly amicably.”

He added, “I’d known her for a long time at that point. We went from kind of being good friends to just having a lot of the same friends, to being together for a while.”

Meanwhile, Liam dated ‘Dynasty’ star Maddison Brown before moving onto model Gabriella Brooks. The couple apparently got more serious with their relationship as Gabriella joined Liam and his entire family on a European ski trip last Christmas.

  • Elton John announces new album featuring Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus, Lil Nas X and more

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Veteran singer-songwriter Elton John recently announced his new album titled ‘The Lockdown Sessions’ featuring some big names from the music industry.

The Grammy-winning artist made the announcement via a tweet on Wednesday. He also shared the album’s release date in the Twitter post.

“The last thing I expected to do during lockdown was make an album but here it is. Thank you to everyone who came together to make it happen. I can’t wait for you all to hear ‘The Lockdown Sessions’ when it’s released on 22 October, but for now, preorder it from today,” he wrote.

The album will include 16 tracks — of those tracks, 10 unreleased — and will feature collaborations with big artists.

Names include Dua Lipa, Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus, Young Thug, Charlie Puth, Lil Nas X, Stevie Wonder and Stevie Nicks.

Elton, while announcing the album, spoke about it in an Instagram video posted on Wednesday. The ‘Rocket Man’ singer said in the video that the making of the album was a “really fantastic journey.”

“I’m thrilled with every single track and I love and thank every single artist that I worked with because I had so much fun. And to have fun during lockdown is a privilege,” Elton said in the Instagram video.

‘The Lockdown Sessions’, the Grammy-winner said, is a collection of songs he recorded during lockdown — hence the name.

“Some of the recording sessions had to be done remotely, via Zoom, which I’d obviously never done before. Some of the sessions were recorded under very stringent safety regulations: working with another artist, but separated by glass screens,” Elton said in a statement, as per People magazine. However, the sessions made him realize he had come “full circle.”

“I realized there was something weirdly familiar about working like this. At the start of my career, in the late ’60s, I worked as a session musician. Working with different artists during lockdown reminded me of that. I’d come full circle: I was a session musician again. And it was still a blast,” he wrote on Instagram.

‘Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)’, featuring Lipa, will be the first track on the album. The single — which was released in August — was the first we saw of Elton working with artists virtually to create music, as per People magazine.

At the time, the ‘Your Song’ singer said it was “incredible” to work with the ‘Future Nostalgia’ singer.

“She’s given me so much energy. She’s a truly wonderful artist, and person, absolutely bursting with creativity and ideas. The energy she brought to ‘Cold Heart’ just blew my mind,” Elton said.

The singer is also currently preparing for his Elton John Farewell Yellow Brick Road: The Final Tour ahead of his retirement, reported People magazine.

“I’m going to go out in the biggest possible way, performing at my very best, with the most spectacular production I’ve ever had, playing in places that have meant so much to me throughout my career,” he announced on YouTube in June.

The tour will kick off on September 28 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

  • Miley Cyrus reaches out to rapper DaBaby amid homophobic remarks controversy

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Joining a growing chorus of celebrities this week in speaking out against DaBaby’s homophobic remarks, singer-songwriter Miley Cyrus invited the rapper to have an open dialogue with her on the subject.

In a statement posted on her Instagram handle, Miley spoke out against cancel culture and in the caption wrote, “@DaBaby check your DMS — would love to talk and see how we can learn from each other and help be part of making a more just and understanding future!”

In her social media statement, Miley wrote, “As a proud and loyal member of the LGBTQIA+ community, much of my life has been dedicated to encouraging love, acceptance, and open mindedness. The internet can fuel a lot of hate and anger and is the nucleus of cancel culture… but I believe it can also be a place filled with education, conversation, communication and connection.”

The ‘Wrecking Ball’ singer, in her statement, further said, “It’s easier to cancel someone than to find forgiveness and compassion in ourselves or take the time to change hearts and minds. There’s no more room for division if we want to keep seeing progress! Knowledge is power! I know I still have so much to learn.”

During DaBaby’s recent Rolling Loud performance on June 25, the rapper had encouraged the audience to put their cell phone flashlights in the air if they “didn’t show up today with HIV/AIDS or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that will make you die in two to three weeks,” among further derogatory remarks about HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ+ people.

After receiving social media backlash, DaBaby was pulled from his brand ambassador deal with Boohoo Man. His ‘Levitating’ collaborator, Dua Lipa, also spoke out against him, along with other big names including Elton John, Madonna and others.

Just three days after the incident, DaBaby released a video for his new song, ‘Giving What It’s Supposed To Give’, which featured the lyrics, ‘We like AIDS… we on your ass, bitch, we won’t go away’.

The day of his scheduled Sunday performance at Lollapalooza, the festival announced in a tweet that DaBaby would no longer be performing. “Lollapalooza was founded on diversity, inclusivity, respect, and love. With that in mind, DaBaby will no longer be performing at Grant Park tonight,” the statement read.

He has also been dropped from other festivals, including Austin City Limits, Governor’s Ball, Day N Vegas, iHeartRadio Music Festival, Can’t Wait Live!, Music Midtown and Parklife Festival.

In an initial apology that came across as insincere to several fans, DaBaby admitted on Twitter that his remarks were “insensitive” but suggested that the comments had been “digested” wrong in another tweet. The rapper followed up with statements like “Apologies for being me.”

Once again on August 2, DaBaby offered another apology on Instagram, writing, “Social media moves so fast that people want to demolish you before you even have the opportunity to grow, educate, and learn from your mistakes. As a man who has had to make his own way from very difficult circumstances, having people I know publicly working against me — knowing that what I needed was education on these topics and guidance — has been challenging.”

Expressing gratitude towards the people, who reached out to him, he added, “I appreciate the many people who came to me with kindness, who reached out to me privately to offer wisdom, education, and resources. That’s what I needed and it was received.”

DaBaby is no stranger to controversy, having to backtrack some questionable lyrics about JoJo Siwa earlier this year.

He also came under fire from Megan Thee Stallion recently, following his collaboration with Tory Lanez, who allegedly shot her in the feet last summer. Lanez joined DaBaby at Rolling Loud to perform their track ‘SKAT’ immediately after Megan hit the stage.

  • Miley Cyrus urges everyone to get vaccinated for COVID-19 in ‘Angels Like You’

    By ANI
WASHINGTON: Singer-songwriter Miley Cyrus is using COVID-19 as a source of inspiration, channeling her energy into making some fresh music. Miley recently dropped the music video of her track ‘Angels Like You’ and it features the singer urging everyone to get vaccinated amid the health crisis.

On Monday, the 28-year-old pop star released the official music video of the song. The footage for the song was recorded on Super Bowl Sunday back in February when Cyrus headlined the NFL TikTok Tailgate event in front of a limited audience of 7,5000 vaccinated, Florida-based healthcare workers.

Miley also shared the music video on her Instagram handle writing a lengthy caption along with it.

She wrote, “Angels Like You video OuT NoW! Shot on 2/7/21 at #TikTokTailgate, the first outdoor covid compliant concert of its size since the pandemic changed our lives forever.”

In the caption, she added, “I never would have thought when I wrote “Angels” that the first time I would be performing this song or shooting a music video would be in a time like this.”

“It’s been almost a year without live music. I desperately miss the connection it brings. I miss hearing your voices ring out in harmony with my own. I miss YOU. With vaccines becoming more available the dream of us all being reunited is getting closer to becoming a reality. We just have to do our part. I hope you love what I have made for you and that you feel for just these few minutes that you were here in the crowd at the show with us. Soon,” Miley concluded.

The clip, which the singer co-directed alongside Alana O’Herlihy, has Cyrus dressed in her Super Bowl pre-game concert look, with the glittery No. 25 black and pink jersey and shoulder pads she rocked during her TikTok Tailgate show in Florida for this year’s big game.

The footage of Cyrus lying in a field, chilling backstage and belting the tearjerker in front of a crowd was filmed on February 7, when Miley performed at the first major COVID-19-compliant live show since the start of the pandemic last March.

The video includes shots of the audience, which was made up of fully vaccinated, mask-wearing healthcare workers and other frontline workers. The music video concludes with a heartfelt message handwritten by the singer, in which she urges viewers to help prevent the spread of the virus.

The handwritten message read, “Nearly a year after the world shut down because of COVID-19, this video was shot at the first concert of its size since the pandemic changed our lives.”

She continued, “The audience here is fully vaccinated healthcare workers who have been fearlessly + tirelessly fighting COVID-19. We all look forward to being together again + this can happen sooner than we may have thought with vaccines becoming more available.” “Each of us can help stop the pandemic by being vaccinated. Together we can make the experience of live music a reality again,” added the songstress.

During her roughly 90-minute pre-game concert, which included surprise appearances by Billy Idol and Joan Jett, the singer repeatedly thanked health care and frontline workers in the audience and watching at home for all they had done during the global pandemic, reported Billboard.

“All of us have a purpose. My purpose is to sing on stage but my purpose can never be achieved without you, you are essential,” she said at one point.

On Super Bowl day, the singer expressed her gratitude for healthcare workers, at one point saying, “The dedication of this song could never repay you for your services.”

  • Miley Cyrus opens up about her ‘identity crisis’ after playing Hannah Montana

    By ANI
WASHINGTON: American singer Miley Cyrus recently opened up about the ‘identity crisis’ she suffered after playing the role of Hannah Montana in Disney Channel’s famous sitcom ‘Hannah Montana’.

As per E! News, in a recent interview with Spotify’s Rock This with host Allison Hagendorf, the ‘Plastic Hearts’ hitmaker spoke about how her early days of fame on the popular show in which she played a teen also named Miley who had a secret identity as a superstar, messed with her head.

“Talk about an identity crisis,” she said of playing the titular role of the regular teen by day, pop star by night on the show for seasons from 2006 to 2011.

“I had gone from being a character almost as often as I was myself. And actually, the concept of the show is that when you’re this character, when you have this alter ego, you’re valuable. You’ve got like millions of fans, you’re like the biggest star in the world. And then the concept was that when I looked like myself when I didn’t have the wig on anymore, that no one cared about me. I wasn’t a star anymore,” Cyrus said.

“So, that was drilled into my head. Like, without being Hannah Montana, no one cares about you. And that was the concept,” the singer added.

Cyrus said she “really had to break that” mentality, adding that her album ‘Bangerz’ was her first foray into finding her identity outside of the popular Disney channel character.

She said, “And so I really had to break that and I think that’s maybe why I almost created a characterized version of myself at times. … I never created a character where it wasn’t me, but I was aware of how people saw me and I may be played into it a little bit.”

In a December interview with Rolling Stone, Cyrus said that she “felt like I was never going to amount to the success of Hannah Montana,” adding that she “had to evolve” because the character was “larger than life.”

She added, “Really, Hannah Montana was not a character. The concept of the show, it’s me. I’ve had to really come to terms with that and not be third-person about it.”

Cyrus has still been able to look back on her Hannah Montana days with a lighthearted lens. Earlier this week, Cyrus joked around about the character on social media with Lil Nas X and Megan Thee Stallion.

The singer paid homage to her former alter ego in a TikTok duet with Nas X and a tweet about a collaboration with Megan.
