When considering the purchase of a new vehicle, one of the most common questions is whether to choose a scooter or a motorcycle. Both two-wheelers are extremely popular in the Indian market, and their prices are often similar, making it difficult for customers to decide. Advice from family and friends can often be divided, with some recommending scooters and others advocating for motorcycles. If you are also in this dilemma, let’s explore the advantages and disadvantages of both.

Scooters are increasingly popular in Indian cities. The primary reason for this is the automatic transmission. Scooters come without gears, making them easy to ride in traffic and crowded places.

A second major advantage is storage space. Almost all scooters offer under-seat storage where helmets, bags, or important documents can be kept. Additionally, items can be placed on the flat footboard. This feature is especially convenient for women.

Scooters also offer good mileage and lower maintenance costs, making them a budget-friendly option for daily commutes. However, scooters are not as reliable for long distances, rough roads, and high speeds.

Motorcycles usually come with powerful engines. This is why they are considered better for long-distance travel and uneven roads. Motorcycles also feel more stable and safer at high speeds on highways.

Many commuter segment motorcycles like Hero Splendor, Honda Shine, and Bajaj Platina provide excellent mileage, making daily commutes economical. Their larger wheels and robust suspension also provide better grip.

However, motorcycles require gear changes, which can be a bit difficult for new riders or in traffic. They also do not have as much storage space as scooters. Furthermore, the maintenance costs of sports or high-performance bikes can be higher.

Both scooters and motorcycles have their own advantages and limitations. If you travel short distances daily in the city, desire easy riding, and need storage space, then buying a scooter is better.

However, if your daily commute is long, you need power and speed, and you also travel on highways, then a motorcycle will be the right choice for you.

When considering the purchase of a new vehicle, the primary question often revolves around choosing between a scooter and a motorcycle. Both two-wheelers are incredibly popular in the Indian market, and their prices are quite similar, making the decision difficult for customers. Advice from family and friends often leads to divided opinions, with some recommending scooters and others advocating for motorcycles. If you find yourself in this dilemma, let’s explore the advantages and disadvantages of both.

Scooters are favored in Indian cities, primarily because of their automatic transmission. Scooters come without gears, making them exceptionally easy to handle in traffic and crowded areas.

Another significant advantage is storage space. Almost all scooters provide under-seat storage, ideal for helmets, bags, or essential documents. Additionally, the flat footboard allows for extra storage. This feature is especially convenient for women.

Scooters also offer good mileage and lower maintenance costs, making them a budget-friendly option for daily commutes. However, scooters are not as reliable for long distances, rough roads, and high speeds.

Motorcycles, in contrast, usually come with powerful engines. This makes them better suited for long-distance travel and uneven roads. Motorcycles also feel more stable and safer at high speeds on highways.

Many commuter segment motorcycles, such as Hero Splendor, Honda Shine, and Bajaj Platina, offer excellent mileage, making daily commutes economical. The larger wheels and robust suspension provide better grip.

However, motorcycles require gear changes, which can be challenging for new riders or in heavy traffic. They also lack storage space compared to scooters. Moreover, maintaining sports or high-performance bikes can be more expensive.

Ultimately, both scooters and motorcycles have their merits and limitations. If you commute short distances daily within the city, desire easy riding, and need storage space, a scooter is a better choice. However, if your daily commute is long, you need power and speed, and you travel on highways, a motorcycle will be the right option.

Hero MotoCorp has expanded its scooter lineup with the launch of the new Destini 110. The company has designed the new scooter to be more stylish and impressive than the Destini 125. The VX cast drum version is priced at ₹72,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi), while the ZX cast disc variant is available for ₹79,000. This scooter will compete with the TVS Jupiter 110 in the Indian market.

**Hero Destini 110: Affordable Price**
One of the biggest highlights of the Destini 110 is its starting price. Launched at approximately ₹72,000, it’s not only a popular scooter in its segment but also more affordable than the Honda Activa 110. This makes it a great option for those looking to buy a scooter on a budget.

**Hero Destini 110: Premium Design and Features**
Hero has introduced the Destini 110 with a new retro-design language, giving it a premium look. It features chrome accents, projector LED headlamps, and H-shaped LED tail lights, making this scooter stand out. It also offers a 785 mm long seat. Practical features like 12-inch wheels and a front glove box add to its utility. The top-end ZX variant includes a 190 mm front disc brake, a significant safety advantage.

**Hero Destini 110: Engine and Specifications**
The scooter is powered by a 110cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that generates 7.9 bhp of power and 8.8 Nm of torque. This engine provides a smooth riding experience in city traffic. It also includes telescopic front forks and rear shock absorbers. Additionally, it features a semi-digital instrument console.

**Hero Destini 110: Impressive Mileage**
When choosing a scooter, mileage is a primary consideration. The company claims the scooter offers a mileage of 56.2 kmpl. It incorporates Hero’s i3S idle-stop system and one-way clutch technology, which helps save fuel during stop-and-go traffic. This is highly beneficial for daily commuters and those covering long distances.

**Hero Destini 110: Competition**
The Hero Destini 110 directly competes with the Honda Activa 110 and TVS Jupiter. While the Activa is known for its reliability and brand value, the Destini offers customers a lower price, a long seat, and exclusive features such as an integrated backrest.

Electric vehicle owners frequently express concerns about not achieving a satisfactory driving range, even with a new vehicle. Many drivers report that their cars do not reach the range claimed…

Electric vehicle owners frequently express concerns about not achieving a satisfactory driving range, even with a new vehicle. Many drivers report that their cars do not reach the range claimed by the manufacturer, causing anxiety among new EV buyers regarding range capabilities. Several detrimental driving habits can diminish the driving range of electric vehicles.

Acceleration plays a crucial role. Poor driving style can significantly impact the range of an EV. Rapid acceleration followed by sudden braking puts excessive strain on the battery, leading to increased energy consumption and stress on other vehicle components. It is important to adjust your driving habits whether you have an EV, or a petrol/diesel car, by avoiding sudden acceleration and braking, as this may lead to a reduced mileage and range.

Driving at high speeds negatively affects range. The instant torque of electric vehicles provides a great driving experience, but high-speed driving can drastically reduce battery range. This effect is more noticeable in electric vehicles than in petrol or diesel cars. According to Times Drive, it is advisable to maintain speeds between 80 km/h and 100 km/h; changing the habit of driving fast is important to preserve range.

Overloading is another factor. Overloading an electric vehicle beyond its specified weight capacity can cause a reduction in range due to the added stress on the vehicle. Automakers and agencies determine the claimed range of an electric vehicle based on various driving factors, and the driving style could reduce the range.

The Kia Syros is a new car that has received a five-star rating from Bharat NCAP, scoring full marks for adult and child safety. Starting from an ex-showroom price of 9 lakh rupees, the Kia Syros offers features like 6 airbags, rear ISOFIX mounts, electronic stability control, and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.

The Tata Nexon has set new safety standards for vehicles in India with the launch of this robust car.

Mahindra XUV 3X0

The price of this car is 7.99 lakh rupees ex-showroom. The 3X0 comes in both petrol and diesel variants, similar to the Nexon. Safety features include 6 airbags, a 360-degree surround view camera, and a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

The next name on this list is another new car in this segment, the Skoda Kylaq. With an ex-showroom price of 7.89 lakh rupees, the Kylaq is 10,000 rupees cheaper than the Mahindra XUV 3X0 and Tata Nexon and has also received a five-star safety rating.
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire has reclaimed its position as the best-selling car in July 2025, surpassing even the popular Hyundai Creta, which had held the top spot for several months.…

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire has reclaimed its position as the best-selling car in July 2025, surpassing even the popular Hyundai Creta, which had held the top spot for several months. Launched in a completely new avatar last November, the Dzire also distinguished itself as Maruti’s first car to achieve a 5-star safety rating. The combination of impressive mileage, new features, a refreshed design, and enhanced safety features has significantly contributed to its renewed popularity.
