  • There’s no award that can validate Chadwick Boseman’s legacy, says actor Michael B Jordan on Oscar snub

    By PTI
.LOS ANGELES: “Black Panther” actor Michael B Jordan has spoken about late co-star Chadwick Boseman’s best actor Oscar snub for “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”.

Jordan, who had hoped a posthumous win for Boseman at the Oscars, was disappointed that the late star was not acknowledged by the Academy.

The best actor Oscar went to Anthony Hopkins, who did not attend the socially-distanced ceremony but honoured Boseman in his speech.

Speaking to SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show, Jordan remembered Boseman fondly.

“But you know, this is how I honestly and truly really feel about it: There’s like, there’s no award that can validate his legacy,” Jordan said of his ‘Black Panther’ co-star.

“There’s no win that can take anything away from the lives around the world that he impacted. So you’ve got to look at the things that we can control and the gifts and the blessings that he left us, and that’s this incredible body of work and what he represents for as a person and as the biggest one we could really ask for.”

Boseman, 43, died of colon cancer in 2020 after a four-year-long secret battle with the disease.

Jordan, 34, said he could not immediately bear to watch Boseman’s final performance in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” as it was hard to imagine that the actor was no longer around.

“I held off from watching it for a while, to be perfectly honest. And when I did it, you know, it’s like, you want to savor it. It was an incredible performance, man. I mean, it’s like, you can see it, you know, him giving everything he had.”

  • I wanted to develop and build out the world of John Clark: Michael B Jordan

    By Express News Service
After the biographical legal drama Just Mercy, actor Michael B Jordan is returning to his tried-and-tested action space with his next film, Without Remorse. He produces and stars in the film that is scheduled to premiere on Amazon Prime Video today.

Directed by Stefano Sollima, Without Remorse is based on the 1993 novel of the same name by Tom Clancy and is a spin-off of the Jack Ryan film series. Like many in his generation, Jordan’s introduction to the Jack Ryan universe came primarily through the popular Rainbow Six video games. The games focus on an international counter-terrorism unit run by a former Navy SEAL named John Clark.

“I grew up playing those games. They are set in the world of John Clark, and you control his elite team through different missions. I thought they were super dope!” says Jordan.

Decades later, while searching for properties to develop through his production company Outlier Society, Jordan and his producing partner Alana Mayo were thrilled to discover that Without Remorse was available to adapt at Paramount Pictures.

“They had a lot of interesting titles in their library, but when I saw that John Clark’s origin story was included in there, I really wanted to develop it and build out that world,” says Jordan.

About his character, Jordan says, “He’s got a big heart and he will do anything for his friends, and that’s how I feel as well. Once he sets his mind to something, he’s determined to work at whatever it is until he accomplishes his mission, which describes me too.”

Jordan describes Kelly as a man who initially believes in the military hierarchy. So much so, that he thinks of himself as an extension of his country. But when he discovers his family is killed as part of the conspiracy, this elite soldier finds himself ill-equipped to handle it emotionally. “In his mind, he doesn’t have anything left to live for,” says the actor.

“Everything he cared about is gone, so it sends him down a very dark path. Unfortunately for the people who did this to him, they picked the wrong guy to mess with. He’s going to fill the empty hole within himself with as many bodies and as much chaos as he can. He’s hurt and heartbroken, so he throws himself into this wild mission in a very calculated way.”

Jordon adds that he enjoyed working with award-winning filmmaker Stefano Sollima, known for films like Sicario: Day of the Soldado. “I loved Stefano’s Sicario sequel, so I felt like he was a great choice to direct this project. From the moment I met him, I could tell he knew exactly how to capture the intensity we were looking for,” Jordan says.

  • John Kelly like a master chess player: Michael B Jordan on his ‘Without Remorse’ role

    By PTI
LOS ANGELES: Hollywood star Michael B Jordon, who plays John Kelly in Amazon Prime Video’s adaptation of Tom Clancy’s novel “Without Remorse”, says his character is like a master chess player who methodically maps out every step along the way to achieve his goals.

The thriller film, starring Jordan, Jamie Bell, Colman Domingo amongst others, is a spin-off of the iconic Jack Ryan film series and an origin story of the character in the Clancy universe.

According to the official log line, an elite Navy SEAL uncovers an international conspiracy while seeking justice for the murder of his pregnant wife in Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse, the explosive origin story of action hero John Clark, one of the most popular characters in Clancy’s Jack Ryan universe.

When a squad of Russian soldiers kills his family in retaliation for his role in a top-secret op, Sr.

Chief John Kelly pursues the assassins at all costs.

Joining forces with a fellow SEAL and a shadowy CIA agent, Kelly’s mission unwittingly exposes a covert plot that threatens to engulf the U.S and Russia in an all-out war.

“While it’s true that Kelly is a far-deadlier warrior than the analytic Ryan, there’s more to the character than mere muscle,” Jordan said in a release.

Ryan is an intel operative, while Kelly is a soldier who gets things done by any means necessary.

“But when it comes to achieving his goals, Kelly is like a master chess player who methodically maps out every step along the way. Chess is something I personally wanted to incorporate into the film, because when John is on a mission, he always has specific objectives in mind, and to achieve them he makes strategic moves and decisions,” the actor said in a statement.

Jordan, best known for his roles in “Black Panther” and the “Creed” franchise, said the chess analogy goes further in the film as they played with the idea that war is a game of pawns and kings.

“Oftentimes in war, soldiers are referred to as pawns, because they’re the ones that go out and do the dirty work on behalf of the larger agenda.

They’re the boots on the ground, and they’re out there fighting for their lives while the protected kings and queens sit back and give the orders.

Then you have the rest of the pieces that are like the generals on the battlefield,” the actor said.

Directed by Stefano Sollima, “Without Remorse” is all set to release globally on April 30 on Amazon Prime Video.
