According to Variety, a US-based news outlet, they will executive produce the show and, if the teaser is any indication, they might also star in it. The nearly two-minute peek features the couple both dressed in black on a white backdrop.

“This was inspired by Nelson Mandela, who once said ‘What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived,’” the British royal says before Meghan adds: “It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.”

“It’s about people who have made brave choices,” Harry continues at the end of the trailer.

Meghan further says, “To fight for change and to become leaders” before Harry concludes “And giving inspiration to the rest of us. To live, to lead.”

Interviews with prominent figures from around the world, such as New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, social justice lawyer and advocate Bryan Stevenson, and Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court Ruth Bader Ginsburg will be featured in the seven-part series.

Produced by Blackwell & Ruth in collaboration with The Nelson Mandela Foundation, the Sussexes’ production business Archewell, and Cinetic Media, the series is believed to have been motivated by Nelson Mandela’s legacy.

Greta Thunberg, a social justice activist, member of South Africa’s national rugby union team Siya Kolisi, feminist icon Gloria Steinem, and Albie Sachs, a former judge on the country’s Constitutional Court, are among the other interviewees in the series.

  • UK royals brace as Harry-Meghan documentary hints at racism, promises ‘full truth’

    By Associated Press

LONDON: Britain’s monarchy braced for more bombshells to be lobbed over the palace gates Thursday as Netflix released the first three episodes of a series that promises to tell the “full truth” about Prince Harry and Meghan’s estrangement from the royal family.

Promoted with two dramatically edited trailers that hint at racism and a “war against Meghan,” the series “Harry & Meghan” is the couple’s latest effort to tell the world why they walked away from royal life and moved to Southern California almost three years ago. It is expected to expand on criticism of the royal family and British media delivered in a series of interviews over the past 18 months.

Netflix released the first three hour-long episodes on Thursday, with three more due Dec. 15. The documentary includes video diaries recorded by Meghan and Harry — apparently on their phones — in March 2020, amid the couple’s acrimonious split from the royal family and move to the United States.

Harry says in the footage that it’s “my duty to uncover the exploitation and bribery” that happens in British media.

“No one knows the full truth,” Harry adds. “We know the full truth.”

A title at the beginning of the series says the royal family declined to comment.

The series comes at a crucial moment for the monarchy as King Charles III tries to show that the institution still has a role to play after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, whose personal popularity dampened criticism of the crown during her 70-year reign. Charles is making the case that the House of Windsor can help unite an increasingly diverse nation by using the early days of his reign to meet with many of the ethnic groups and faiths that make up modern Britain.

Harry’s 2018 marriage to the former Meghan Markle, a biracial American and onetime actress, was once seen as boosting the royal family’s effort to move into the 21st century, making it more representative of a multicultural nation. But the fairy tale, which began with a star-studded ceremony at Windsor Castle, soon soured amid stories that Meghan was self-centered and bullied her staff.

Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, stepped back from royal duties and moved to California, alleging racist attacks by Britain’s tabloid media. Harry’s criticism of the media was tinged with anger over the way the press treated his mother, Princess Diana, who died in a car accident in 1997 while being followed by photographers. The couple’s new life in America has been funded by lucrative contracts with Netflix and Spotify.

Race became a central issue for the monarchy following Harry and Meghan’s interview with American talk show host Oprah Winfrey in March 2021. Meghan alleged that before their first child was born, a member of the royal family commented on how dark the baby’s skin might be.

Prince William, the heir to the throne and Harry’s older brother, defended the royal family after the interview, telling reporters, “We’re very much not a racist family.”

But Buckingham Palace faced renewed allegations of racism only last week when a Black advocate for survivors of domestic abuse said a senior member of the royal household interrogated her about her origins during a reception at the palace. Coverage of the issue filled British media, overshadowing William and his wife Kate’s much-anticipated visit to Boston, which the palace had hoped would highlight their environmental credentials.

Media attention was also diverted by Netflix’s decision to release the first trailer for “Harry & Meghan” in the middle of the trip.

The streaming giant has promised an “unprecedented and in-depth documentary series” in which Harry and Meghan “share the other side of their high-profile love story.”

The program will be watched carefully in the U.K., where even the teasers were criticized for offering misleading images to back up the emotive narration alleging misogyny, unfair media treatment and racism.

In one section of the footage, clips of paparazzi are spliced together with old footage of Princess Diana being followed by the media as Harry says in a voiceover: “The pain and suffering of women marrying into this institution, this feeding frenzy. … I was terrified, I didn’t want history to repeat itself.”

However, one of the clips used to illustrate his words appears to show reporters and photographers waiting for TV star Katie Price arriving outside Crawley Magistrates Court, Sky News reported.

The second trailer also includes an indictment of the way palace officials use the press, which Harry described as a “dirty game.″

“There’s a hierarchy of the family,” Harry says, over an image of the royal family standing on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. “You know, there’s leaking, but there’s also planting of stories.″

That is followed by a picture of a photographer perched on another balcony as Harry and Meghan walk with their young son Archie down below. While the scene suggests the photographer was covertly snapping pictures of a private moment, the photo actually shows an accredited press photographer who was covering the couple’s meeting with Desmond Tutu in 2019.

Whatever the series reveals, palace officials hope to deflect the storm by portraying William and Kate as forward-looking young royals who are tackling difficult issues such as climate change and early childhood education, in contrast to Harry and Meghan, who are described by critics as merely celebrities selling their story to the media.

The BBC and the Daily Telegraph, one of Britain’s most influential newspapers, picked up on this theme in their coverage of William and Kate’s three-day trip to Boston, where they handed out environmental prizes, met with anti-violence campaigners and went to a basketball game.

“While Prince Harry and Meghan continued to paint themselves as victims, heads in hands, tearing their hair out at the unfairness of it all, the Prince and Princess were simply getting on with the job,” the Telegraph wrote.

  • Netflix cost cuts lead to Meghan Markle animated series ‘Pearl’ being axed

    By IANS

LOS ANGELES: Streaming giant Netflix has cancelled the development of ‘Pearl’, an animated series created by Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, in its move to cut costs.

The show, which was announced last year, is one of several projects being dropped by the streaming giant, the BBC reported.

Last month, Netflix revealed a sharp fall in subscribers and warned millions more are set to quit the service.

Archewell Productions, the company formed by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, announced last year that Meghan would be an executive producer of ‘Pearl’.

The series was planned to centre on the adventures of a 12-year-old girl, who is inspired by influential women from history.

Netflix did, however, confirm that it will continue to work on a number of projects with Archewell Productions, including a documentary series called ‘Heart of Invictus’, said the BBC report.

The series will focus on athletes competing in the Invictus Games for injured veterans, an event founded by Duke of Sussex Prince Harry, in The Hague in 2022.

Netflix also said that it had decided not to move forward with two animated children’s series ‘Dino Daycare’ and ‘Boons and Curses’.

According to the BBC, Netflix said last month its total number of subscribers had dropped by 200,000 in the first three months of this year, falling well short of its target.

It also warned that some two million more users were likely to quit the service in the three months to July.

  • Meghan Markle, Prince Harry donate to charities in Ukraine

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are continuing to do their bit for the people of Ukraine. The couple has made donations to charities to support Ukrainians as they paid tribute to Invictus Games athlete Serhii Karaivan, who died while fighting against Russian forces.

As per Fox News, the couple’s Archewell Foundation announced on Friday that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have donated to several organisations working on the ground to support the Ukrainian people.

These organisations include HIAS (Helping Ukrainian Families Settle), World Central Kitchen, the World Health Organization, and The HALO Trust. Notably, The HALO Trust is an organisation Harry’s late mother Princess Diana supported.

Meghan and Harry’s foundation also paid tribute to Invictus Games athlete Serhii Karaivan, who died on March 13 while fighting against Russian forces. Harry, who served in the army for more than 10 years, started the Invictus Games in 2014.

“Finally, our hearts are heavy as we acknowledge the recent loss of a member of our veteran community in Ukraine, who was defending his country from attack,” the foundation said in its statement.

Meghan and Harry first condemned Russia’s attack on Ukraine on February 25 through a statement posted on the Archewell website that read, “WE STAND WITH THE PEOPLE OF UKRAINE.”

“Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and all of us at Archewell stand with the people of Ukraine against this breach of international and humanitarian law and encourage the global community and its leaders to do the same,” the statement said.

On February 24, Russia began a military operation in Ukraine, responding to calls for help from the breakaway republics of Donetsk and Luhansk in countering the aggression of Ukrainian troops. The Russian Defense Ministry said the special operation is targeting Ukrainian military infrastructure only.

According to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, almost 600 civilians have been killed and more than 1,000 injured in Ukraine since the start of the conflict.

  • Meghan Markle’s half-sister sues her over 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: The Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle’s half-sister has sued her for allegedly making “false” statements in the 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview that she and Prince Harry gave.

According to Fox News, the lawsuit filed by Samantha Markle, who shares father Thomas Markle with the duchess, has accused Meghan of defamation.

It has been “based on demonstrably false and malicious statements” made by Meghan in the sit-down interview viewed by millions around the world on March 7, 2021.

Samantha has claimed that Meghan had lied about the last time she saw her and about being an “only child”. The lawsuit further alleged that Meghan had falsely said that Samantha changed her last name to Markle only after she had started dating Prince Harry.

The court documents suggest that Samantha has claimed Meghan’s “lies” were “designed to destroy [her] reputation” and have subjected her to “humiliation, shame and hatred on a worldwide scale.”

Meghan’s half-sister went on to allege that the duchess had instructed her communications secretary Jason Knauf to “disseminate” false statements for the biography ‘Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family’ by Omid Scobie.

Highlighting their father’s past work in Hollywood as a “successful television lighting director for 45 years,” Samantha also accused Meghan of damaging their father’s reputation “in order to preserve and promote the false ‘rags-to-royalty’ narrative.”

Samantha concluded by stating that the truths of Meghan’s life story “directly contradict the false narrative and ‘fairy tale life story’ [Meghan] fabricated.” She is seeking damages in excess of USD 75,000.

This lawsuit has been termed as “baseless” by Meghan’s attorney Michael Kump, reported Fox News.

“This baseless and absurd lawsuit is just a continuation of a pattern of disturbing behaviour. We will give it the minimum attention necessary, which is all it deserves,” Kump said.

  • Meghan Markle receives front-page apology from UK tabloid after winning court battle

    By ANI

LONDON: The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle has received a printed apology from the publishers of a British tabloid newspaper after years of legal battle.

According to Deadline, the London High Court had ordered the UK tabloid to print a front-page apology for breaching Markle’s privacy in February 2019 by printing parts of a five-page letter to her estranged father, Thomas Markle, after her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018.

“The Duchess of Sussex wins her legal case for copyright infringement against Associated Newspapers for articles published in The Mail on Sunday and posted on Mail Online,” Sunday’s front page notice read.

The apology continued, “Following a hearing on 19-20 January 2021, and a further hearing on 5 May 2021, the Court has given judgment for the Duchess of Sussex on her claim for copyright infringement. The Court found that Associated Newspapers infringed her copyright by publishing extracts of her handwritten letter to her father in The Mail on Sunday and on Mail Online. Financial remedies have been agreed.”

The High Court forced the tabloid on Sunday to print a longer notice inside the paper under the headline ‘The Duchess Of Sussex’ detailing their legal culpability.

Additionally, the Court ordered the apology be printed on the tabloid’s homepage “for a period of one week” with a hyperlink to the full, official judgment. Alongside various printed apologies, Markle will also be compensated nearly USD 1.7 million, 90 per cent of her legal fees for fighting the UK publisher.

Shortly after the December 2 ruling, Markle had stated, “This is a victory not just for me, but for anyone who has ever felt scared to stand up for what’s right.”

“While this win is precedent-setting, what matters most is that we are now collectively brave enough to reshape a tabloid industry that conditions people to be cruel, and profits from the lies and pain that they create,” she added, as per Deadline.

  • Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton may collaborate for Netflix project

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Despite rumours of the royal tension, sister-in-laws Duchess of Sussex- Meghan Markle and Duchess of Cambridge- Kate Middleton could soon collaborate on a Netflix project, in which Meghan could highlight Kate’s charity work.

“Meghan and Kate are actually getting along really well and have been in touch more often. Meghan has been talking to her about collaborating on a project for Netflix, a documentary that will spotlight Kate’s charity work and the huge impact she’s made with her philanthropy,” a source revealed to US Weekly.

“Kate is very flattered, and it’s all very positive between them,” the insider added.

However, according to Page Six, sources close to the royal family have denied the report.

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have signed a multi-year deal with Netflix last fall, with intentions to develop, “documentaries, docu-series, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programming.”

Reportedly, their first project will centre “on the Invictus Games, which gives sick and injured military personnel and veterans the opportunity to compete in sports.”

The duo will also produce a family drama animated series about a 12-year-old girl’s adventures, tentatively titled “Pearl,” reported Page Six.

For the unversed, the 40-year-old Duchess of Sussex claimed in her bombshell March interview with Oprah Winfrey that the media is to blame for “inventing stories to fuel a faux sisterly feud” between herself and Kate.

On the other hand, Kate’s uncle Gary Goldsmith countered Meghan’s statement by saying, “If anyone can bring peace to the royals, Kate can. Kate is a brilliant arbiter and peacemaker. Every bone in her body is about making friends and doing the best she can … She’s trying to mediate.”

Meghan and Harry have been detangling their lives from the British royal family and are currently residing in California with their two children- Archie and newborn Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

On a related note, Meghan Markle recently celebrated her 40th birthday and the royal members including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton took to their official Twitter handles, to share mesmerising pictures of the duchess and sent their best wishes on her big day.

  • Meghan Markle’s father plans to petition court to see his grandchildren

    By ANI
WASHINGTON: The Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle’s estranged father Thomas Markle claims he will take her and Prince Harry to court in hopes of having a relationship with grandchildren Archie Harrison and Lili Diana.

Thomas told Fox News he wanted to be a part of his grandchildren’s lives and will take his daughter to court over the matter. He claimed, “I will be petitioning the California courts for the rights to see my grandchildren in the very near future.”

Expressing concern for grandson Archie Harrison and newborn granddaughter Lilibet “Lili” Diana, he told the news outlet that he believes Meghan and husband Prince Harry have shown “bad behaviour” in their dealings with the royal family.

Talking about his grandchildren he continued, “Archie and Lili are small children. They’re not politics. They’re not pawns. They’re not part of the game. And they’re also royal and entitled to the same rights as any other royal.”

Meghan had previously told Oprah Winfrey that while she cares for her father, she can’t understand why he’s worked with the same tabloids that she mistrusts.

She explained, “I mean, I look at Archie, I think about this child and I go, ‘I genuinely can’t imagine doing anything to intentionally cause pain to my child. I can’t imagine it. So, it’s hard for me to reconcile that.”

Meghan also acknowledged the tenacity of the tabloid media, while accepting that her father had the chance to turn down staged photo opps and interviews, just as her mother Doria Ragland has.

She stated, “Everyone has accountability. Look, they’ve hunted my mom down and yu’ve never heard her say a word. She’s remained in silent dignity for four years watching me go through this.”

The Duchess further noted that she hasn’t seen estranged sister Samantha Markle, who wrote a “tell-all” book about her sibling, in at least 10 years. She remarked, “I think it would be very hard to tell all when you don’t know me.”

The royal’s fraught relationship with her family is part of the reason why she was excited to welcome Lili this spring.

“I grew up as an only child, which everyone who grew up around me knows,” she reflected and added, “I wished I’d had siblings. I would have loved to have siblings. That’s why I’m so excited to be pregnant so that Archie has someone.”

Indeed, Lili has been a welcome addition to Harry and Meghan’s family. When the prince returned to England for the late Princess Diana’s 60th birthday, he told fans, “We’ve been lucky so far… She’s very chilled and seems happy to just sit there while Archie is running around like crazy.”
