Pakistan’s political drama intensifies as PTI’s top brass from behind bars reaches out to Chief Justice Yahya Afridi for urgent relief on behalf of Imran Khan. In a strongly worded letter circulated via media outlets like Geo News, the party accuses the government of medical negligence and rights violations against the former premier.

Key signatories—Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, Umar Sarfraz Cheema, and Mahmood-ur-Rashid—detail how Khan, jailed since August 2023, is denied basic entitlements. Personal physicians are barred, family visits restricted, and legal counsel access curtailed, they claim, echoing longstanding party grievances.

Timing is critical: this follows Khan’s latest eye treatment at PIMS hospital, where he battles CRVO, with a Supreme Court document revealing 85% vision loss in one eye. PTI contrasts this with Nawaz Sharif’s 2019 case, where state facilities at Services Hospital included full personal doctor participation, open family access, and overseas travel approval for cardiac care.

The letter lambasts the regime for initial denials of Khan’s health issues, followed by grudging admissions post-diagnosis. Allegations fly of intentional hurdles to sustain ‘political dominance,’ especially given the government’s perceived lack of public mandate.

PTI demands judicial oversight to guarantee Khan’s rights to private medical consultations, lawyer meetings, and family contact. This bold move from incarceration highlights PTI’s resilience and could pressure the judiciary amid rising calls for transparency in prisoner treatment. Observers watch closely, as any CJ action might signal broader reforms or fuel further unrest in Pakistan’s polarized arena.

The Kerala High Court has ruled that rejecting a health insurance claim for medical treatment constitutes a violation of Article 21 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to life. Justice P.M. Manoj delivered the judgment in response to a writ petition. The court stated that if an individual is eligible for insurance and undergoes surgery or treatment as advised by a doctor, the insurance company cannot deny the claim. Such denial, the court emphasized, infringes upon the fundamental right to life. The court clarified that insurance companies cannot reject claims for treatment expenses in such situations, as doing so would deprive the patient of necessary medical care.

In a harrowing incident in a rural area of Dhamtari, Chhattisgarh, a 9-year-old schoolgirl was brutally attacked by a pack of stray dogs. The incident occurred in Mainpur village, located in the remote Borai area of the district. The girl, identified as Anya Netam, suffered severe injuries in the attack and was rushed to the district hospital. Doctors administered 15 stitches to treat her wounds. Following initial treatment, the severity of her condition prompted a referral to Raipur for further medical attention. The incident has instilled fear among the villagers.

The attack unfolded as Anya was playing behind her house after school hours. A group of five stray dogs surrounded her and began mauling her. She sustained deep bite wounds to her head, hands, and legs. Hearing her cries, villagers rushed to her aid and managed to fend off the dogs. She was initially taken to a government hospital in Nagri. Due to the lack of improvement, she was transferred to the Dhamtari district hospital. Ultimately, doctors decided to refer her to the Mekahara Hospital in Raipur for specialized care. Doctors noted the severity of the injuries, which left them astonished during treatment.
