  • Mayor counts achievements on completing a year in office

On completing one year at the office, Mayor Aijaz Dhebar recounted a list of his and MiC’s achievements like Budhatalab beautification, widening of several squares and relief works during Covid-19 induced lockdown and used them to take a potshot at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for their failure to deliver. Talking to mediapersons, Mayor killed two birds with one stone, saying the BJPians who once opposed the Budhatalab beautification projects are now seen taking selfies at the beautiful installations. BJP had spent Rs 30 crores on beautification and development of Budhatalab, but of no avail, whereas they cleaned out 1700 truck-full of waste of the pond within 25 days and developed it as one of the most beautiful spots of the City as promised. BJP leaders were misleading the people by spreading rumor that RMC was grabbing land of schools. Now when the pond has been developed, they are strolling at the same place, taking photos. He also taunted BJP for not able to decide on the name of leader of opposition even after one year of election. Mayor also recalled how efficiently they handled the situation during lockdown. RMC never backed down from its duty in tough times. Even during the lockdown, no one slept hungry. RMC also supplied medicines and food to the Covid-19 patients living in home isolation. They visited Delhi to observe the education and health system before opening RMC-run English medium schools in the City. These schools have received over 10000 applications for admission. Mayor further said to sort out the issues of traffic congestions, they took widening and development of City Kotwali Chowk and Devendra Nagar Chowk. Furthermore, their next project is to create a parking lot for around 300 vehicles at Pandri Mahalaxmi Clothe Market and the Pandri Bus Stand will soon be relocated out of the crowded Pandri to Bhatagaon. In a step towards the convenience of 24970 pensioners, who have to travel long distance and spend up to Rs 100 just to withdraw Rs 350 pension, RMC will soon provide them with ATM cards so as no pensioner has to visit the RMC office unnecessarily. Mayor also talked about the giving possession of shops to businessmen who have spent generations there as tenants. He also avowed to make the Capital tanker free within his tenure. Talking about his future plans, Mayor said they will next develop the Hind Sporting Ground and sort out the traffic congestion on Malviya Road and put the cables underground. After January 20, projects like multi-level parking and new bus stands will be dedicated to the public.
