  • ‘The Batman’ sequel in works, confirms Matt Reeves

    By Express News Service

At a time when several projects under the DC universe are going through changes, filmmaker Matt Reeves has confirmed that he is indeed working on The Batman sequel. In an interview with Collider, the director mentioned that he is working with Mattson Tomlin for a film. Interestingly, Mattson also wrote The Batman script along with Matt.

The Batman was released in 2021 to a box office and critical success, after which Warner Bros announced the sequel along with some spinoff series in development. However, after James Gunn and Peter Safran took the positions as heads of DC Studios, several changes took place which impacted the cinematic universe. From Henry Cavill exiting as Superman to Wonder Woman 3 being scrapped, things lay uncertain for the character’s and actors’ future within the cinematic universe.

However, in the interview with Collider, Reeves while not directly mentioning about The Batman sequel, dodged the question by saying, “I’m not going to answer that question, but we are working on a movie. I’ll put it to you that way. We’re deep in it and my partner and I are writing, Mattson [Tomlin] and I are writing, and it’s really exciting, and I’m really excited about what we’re doing.”

Also referring to Robert Pattinson who played Batman, Matt said that he is “really excited to be doing that with Rob,” because he thinks Robert is “such a special person and actor.”

  • The Batman  gets PG-13 rating

    By Express News Service

Director Matt Reeves’, The Batman has received a PG-13 rating, on contrary to the most-expected R-rating. It is being said that it has got a PG-13 rating for its “strong violent and disturbing content, drug content, strong language, and some suggestive material.”

It may be recalled that director Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy received the same PG-13 rating, despite having disturbing imagery and a bit of violence.

For the first time, The Batman is being portrayed as unhinged and even self-destructive in this retelling, which stars Robert Pattinson in the titular role.

The film has also garnered attention for introducing Riddler (Paul Dano) and his portrayal. Zoë Kravitz portrays the role of Catwoman in the film and she works alongside Batman.

  • ‘Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne is inspired by Kurt Cobain’: Matt Reeves

    By Online Desk

The Batman trailer that dropped last year left the audience bedazzled of how well the music used a darker rendition of Nirvana’s Something In The Way. As it turns out, director Matt Reeves had a deeper reason for the song selection.

In an interview with Empire, director Matt Reeves talked about how late Nirvana frontman and ’90s music icon Kurt Cobain inspired his adaptation of Batman’s alter ego Bruce Wayne.

“When I write, I listen to music, and as I was writing the first act, I put on Nirvana’s ‘Something In The Way,’” he said, referring to the grunge rock group’s 1991 song, which Cobain wrote about a fictional person living under a bridge, and which appears in the trailers for The Batman.

It was within the music that Reeves decided to forego the standard portrayal of Bruce Wayne as a playboy and go for something edgier.

“There’s another version who had gone through a great tragedy and become a recluse. So I started making this connection to Gus Van Sant’s ‘Last Days,’ and the idea of this fictionalized version of Kurt Cobain being in this kind of decaying manor,” remarked Reeves.

Reeves’ decision to cast Robert Pattinson galvanised with having Kurt Cobain in his mind.  “He’s also got that Kurt Cobain thing, where he looks like a rock star, but you also feel like he could be a recluse,” said Reeves.

Pattinson drew Reeves’ attention after the director watched his performance in the 2017 crime thriller Good Time. “In that movie, you could really feel his vulnerability and desperation, but you could also feel his power,” the director told Empire.

Reeves’ cinematic influences for “The Batman” include Chinatown, The French Connection, and Taxi Driver. Reeves co-wrote the script with Mattson Tomlin and “The Batman” features cinematography from Oscar-nominated DP Greig Fraser.

The Batman releases on March 4, 2022, marking the sixth re-imagination of the character on the big screen.
