  • PM Narendra Modi monitoring situation at Jammu’s Mata Vaishno Devi

    SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is monitoring the situation following a stampede at the Mata Vaishno Devi in Katra, Jammu, and has conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families, tweeted Jitendra Singh, Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office.

    “Prime Minister @narendramodi is personally monitoring and keeping track of the tragic situation arising out of stampede at Mata #VaishnoDevi shrine. Prime Minister has conveyed his sympathies to bereaved families and issued instructions to provide all possible medical aid and assistance to the injured,” Jitendra Singh tweeted.

    Top officials have confirmed that 12 pilgrims have died and over a dozen others were injured during a stampede at Katra in Jammu. The incident took place at the Bhavan where there was a massive rush of pilgrims on the occasion of New year.

    The yatra has been stopped for now. The injured have been moved to the hospital.

    Vaishno Devi yatra draws thousands of pilgrims daily to Katra. The rush of pilgrims is particularly high during the Navratras.

  • Rahul Gandhi to visit Srinagar on August 9, meet leaders

    NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will visit Srinagar on August 9 and will meet party leaders and workers there, said sources on Wednesday.

    This will be his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370.

    The Congress leader will also attend the wedding reception of Jammu and Kashmir party unit president Ghulam Ahmed Mir’s son.

    The sources said the Congress leaders may also visit Mata Vaishno Devi in Jammu on August 8 but it is yet to be finalised and will meet party leaders and other people in Jammu as well.

    He may also visit Kheer Bhawani and Hazratbal in Srinagar, said sources while adding that this is not finalised yet.

    The Centre had abrogated Article 370 and bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two Union territories in August 2019. 

  • Mata Vaishno Devi: Less than 10 years, devotees of age above 60 years will not be able to visit Vaishno Devi

    According to reliable sources, devotees younger than 10 years and above 60 years will not be allowed to visit Vaishno Devi during the first phase as per the guidelines issued by the state administration. Not only this, only residents of Jammu and Kashmir will be allowed to visit Vaishno Devi. The journey will have to be done during the day and only 4000 to 5000 devotees will be able to see the mother Vaishno Devi daily. It will be mandatory for the devotees to undergo RTPS test before starting the journey. RTPS center will be set up in every district of Jammu and Kashmir. The RTPS center base camp in district Reasi will be built in Katra. This center will be near the main travel registration center.

    Until the outbreak of the corona epidemic continues, devotees will be allowed to travel only during the day. The devotees will neither be able to enter the building at night nor will they be allowed to stay at the building. Not only this, devotees will not be able to participate in the divine Maha Aarti to be held at the mother Vaishno Devi Bhavan in the morning and evening. During the Corona period, the sacred cave of the famous Ardhkunwari temple will also be closed for devotees. Devotees will be able to see only from outside, following physical distance.

    Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has also provided railway station, Katra Helipad, counter number two, Inter State Bus Station, Niharika Complex, Vaishno Dham Jammu, Kalika Dham Jammu and Saraswati Dham in addition to the main registration center at the city’s main bus station for travel registration. Created registration centers in Jammu. Earlier these centers used to be open for registration but during the Corona period the opening time of these registration centers will also be fixed. Earlier, where the travel slip was made available to the devotees from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm, now in the present condition, the journey registration center will be in about 2 to 3 shifts from 5:00 am to 12:00 pm.     the possibility of starting the Vaishno Devi Yatra from August 16, the Shree Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has started the process of conducting corona infection test of all its officers and employees. It has been arranged at Ashirwad Bhawan located in the base camp Katra. Officers and employees of the Shrine Board Administration are also reaching there to give samples daily. The board says that this has been done before the start of the journey so that there is no problem of any kind at the start of the journey.
