  • It was too soon to recast T’Challa in sequel: Marvel CEO Kevin Feige

    By Express News Service

Chadwick Boseman was cast as T’Challa in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Civil War. He went on to reprise his role in Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Sadly, after a four-year battle with colon cancer, Boseman passed in August 2020.

In the wake of his passing, there have been varying opinions on the recasting of the character as the sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is heading towards a release. Marvel Studios, however, decided against a recast. While speaking to Empire Magazine recently, Marvel CEO Kevin Feige spoke about the studio’s decision not to recast the iconic character explaining that it felt “too soon” to do so.

Here are Feige’s comments: “Stan Lee always said that Marvel represents the world outside your window. And we had talked about how, as extraordinary and fantastical as our characters and stories are, there’s a relatable and human element to everything we do. The world is still processing the loss of Chad. And Ryan poured that into the story.”

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be released in theatres on November 11.

An ecstatic Chanu replied to Hemsworth saying: “Thank you so much @chrishemsworth, always love to watch you.”

The reference was made because apart from Thor, no other superhero can pick up the Mjolnir. Thor’s Mjolnir is the hammer of the thunder god Thor in Norse mythology, used both as a devastating weapon and as a divine instrument to provide blessings.

  • Thor is a huge part of my life: Chris Hemsworth

    Express News Service

You have played Thor for more than 10 years now. What keeps bringing you back?Simply the fact that they keep asking me. I don’t know why, but they do. Every time I think this is going to be my last, something amazing comes up to make them want me back. This was definitely one of them. I’m just so thankful to be involved.

Do you still get nervous ahead of a big Marvel film release or are you used to the hype now?I don’t think you can ever get used to it. I definitely still get nervous because it’s something you have worked for so long and hard on. In this case, I think we really have made something special and different. It’s a riot and I really think the fans are going to love it. Their response so far has been phenomenal, which we are so grateful for.

    Chris Hemsworth as Thor

A lot of the early excitement for this film has been about your nude scene. Has that surprised you?I thought it might be a thing, but maybe not as much as it has become. Everyone is asking about it, which is a little embarrassing although I have to say I wasn’t actually completely naked. I had something to hide my modesty. But it’s a funny scene and at the time it seemed perfectly natural, given how I’ve been gradually more undressed in each of the four Thor movies. I don’t know where we can go from here, other than having him fully clothed, so hopefully, that’s it for the nude stuff.

What was your reaction when you were first pitched the idea of bringing Natalie Portman back as Jane Foster and having her become the Mighty Thor?I just thought it was a genius idea. Taika Waititi (director)approached me about it at a time when I really wasn’t sure where we could go next, but he came up with an idea that totally blew me away. It just felt so right to bring Natalie back and have her become the Mighty Thor in such a unique and beautiful way.

How was it when you and Portman finally reunited? It was really special actually. It felt like a proper reunion, which I think really helped both of us in the roles we had to play. To see Natalie return and to get to work with her and see her transformation into a true superhero, in all her glory, was really special.

What did you think of her costume compared to yours?Loved it. She looks awesome.  I kind of knew what she was going to look like, but then seeing her on set as the Mighty Thor for the first time totally blew me away. She totally owned it. She looked like a superhero.

How much fun is it to share these movies with your children? It’s the best. We got to have our boys with us for the premiere, which was really special. Anytime you get to share the amazing experience it is to be part of these movies with them and to see their excitement and enthusiasm is incredibly special. It reminds you what this is all about and how lucky we are to be on this incredible ride.

Is it right that one of your sons is in the movie?Yeah, my son Tristan plays the young Thor in one scene, which is like a transition between us running. He did a great job and actually looks a lot better running than I do.

How is it to work with Taika as your director and in his role as Korg?I guess it was a little weird at first because he literally does everything, but then he is such a brilliant director and so good at being on either side of the camera that you soon forget about all that. I loved working with Taika as our director on this and I love him as Korg. He’s my favourite character in the whole MCU. He’s hilarious.

What physical preparation did you have to go through to be Thor? It’s become like a routine now. I’ve kind of got used to it. It’s a little like being an athlete. I have to constantly stay fit and then bulk up for Thor. Then I have to lose it all again for some other role. Getting the weight off is the hardest part. I’m not even sure which is my real body anymore.

Given that Portman is now the Mighty Thor and how most of the other original Avengers are out of action, will we see you back as Thor or are you going to hang up your cape too?I don’t know. As I say, I always think it’s going to be my last time, but not because I don’t want to carry on. This character has been a huge part of my career and my life, and I’d love to do more. It all depends on whether the fans want to see more and if I’m asked. As long as it’s fun and different, I’ll be there.

You have played Thor for more than 10 years now. What keeps bringing you back?

  • Kevin Feige on whether Fantastic Four will be origin story or not

    By Express News Service

Days after Comic-Con ended, Kevin Feige opened up about his plans for the upcoming Fantastic Four film. The Marvel boss announced that he does not want to explore the origin story of the superhero group. He said “A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before?”

Marvel came out swinging at Comic-Con with a plethora of colourful announcements for Phase 5 and 6. Kevin Feige came on stage to announce spin-off shows, release dates, casting announcements, and trailers for projects like She-Hulk, Daredevil: Born Again, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Antman and the Wasp: Quantamania, Blade, Avengers: Secret Wars, and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

The Fantastic Four is a Marvel superhero team who first made their comic book appearance in 1961. It quickly rose to prominence as one of the popular comics and the fastest-selling properties under Marvel. But for some reason, Fantastic Four has not been able to get a proper live-action adaptation while even lesser-known characters like the Guardians of the Galaxy have successfully crossed over to the big screen. The Fantastic Four films which started in 2005 with Chris Evans and Jessica Alba in the lead have received a lukewarm response from the audience and critics alike.

Now with the popularity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans are lobbying for a proper live-action adaptation of the characters with new cast members. Even though fan favourite John Krasinski appeared in Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness as a multiverse version of Fantastic Four member Reed Richards, he is yet to be confirmed as an official cast member in the upcoming film.

  • ‘Shang-Chi’ director Destin Daniel Cretton to helm ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’

    By IANS

LOS ANGELES: ‘Shang-Chi: The Legend of the Ten Rings’ director Destin Daniel Cretton will be seen helming ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’, a representative for Marvel Studios confirmed.

Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige announced ‘The Kang Dynasty’ during the company’s wide-ranging presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, as part one of the two-part conclusion to the Multiverse Saga -similar to how 2018’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame’ concluded the Infinity Saga, reports Variety.

Unlike those films, which were filmed and directed back-to-back by MCU veterans Anthony and Joe Russo, Cretton will only be directing ‘The Kang Dynasty’, which is set to debut on May 2, 2025.

The follow-up, ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, is due to open just six months later, on November 7, 2025. No director has been announced for that film.

While there have been no screenwriter or casting announcements for ‘The Kang Dynasty’ either, the title makes clear that Jonathan Majors’ ‘Kang the Conqueror’ who will be first introduced in 2023’s ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’, will play a central role in the film.

As his name suggests, Kang did indeed successfully conquer Earth in a Marvel comics run in the early 2000s, until the Avengers defeated him.

‘Shang-Chi’ was the first Marvel Studios film to get an exclusive theatrical release following the Covid pandemic shutdown, earning $432 million worldwide amid rolling shutdowns during the spread of the delta variant.

Prior to that film, Cretton was best known as the director of the deeply felt 2013 indie drama ‘Short Term 12’, which helped to launch the career of its star Brie Larson all the way to playing Captain Marvel in the MCU.

Larson has since appeared in all of Cretton’s movies, starring in the 2017 biographical drama ‘The Glass Castle’, and co-starring with Michael B. Jordan, also an MCU veteran, in Warner Bros.’ 2019 historical drama ‘Just Mercy’.

Before the teaser was shown to the Hall H crowd at Comic-Con, director Ryan Coogler and several members of the film’s ensemble took the stage to introduce the film and discuss the legacy of the late Chadwick Boseman, who led the original 2018 ‘Black Panther’ before he died in 2020 after a private battle with colon cancer.

“It’s going to be hard to follow that up, but we’ll try,” Coogler told the crowd.

‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ will hit theaters on November 11.

By pulling in 172 million views in its first 24 hours, ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ becomes one of the top trailer launches for a standalone Marvel movie following titles like the ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ teaser and the ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ teaser.

Four ‘Avengers’ trailers also pulled in bigger numbers: ‘Avengers: Endgame’ teaser, ‘Avengers: Endgame’ final trailer, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ teaser and ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ final trailer.

The teaser marked the first unveiling of the ‘Black Panther’ sequel, which marks the next feature film entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The footage showcases the nation of Wakanda going to war against an army of Atlanteans, led by the fearful Namor (Tenoch Huerta). Lupita Nyong’o, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Florence Kasumba Winston Duke and Angela Bassett are reprising their roles from the original ‘Black Panther’, joined by series newcomer Michaela Coel, Dominique Thorne, Alex Nivilani and Mabel Cadena.
